  • My first unboxing and my first test.
    I tried it out on all the hardest flags I could find and compared it to my own. Perhaps not very fair but I thought that was the best way.
    With all lasers I struggle from 200 yards simply because I can't hold it steady enough. From 170 yards and down I had no trouble at all. It passed.
    On Amazon I have a 5% discount code of - THE HAIRY GOLFER and they are having a black friday event from the 18th.

      I chopped a lot out! I struggle from a long way out, from 150 in it was far better.

    i have both a gps and laser as the garmin gps is veerrryyy slow on picking up Sat's and has let me down too many times, crashed, wrong distance etc etc, i played with some people and they were using lasers from 30, 40metres out, all it produced was very slow play. ( 9 times out of 10 they would duff it or over the back. That close i pick a spot on the green do a practice swing, hit and hope.

      I bought a new garmin and I'm not impressed. Switch it on on the 1st tee 5 minutes before we play and it doesn't find the sat till the middle of the fairway. I've played with guys who can't eyeball 30 yards, pain in the arse. I do when I'm filming simply for the caption but otherwise I don't. If you can't estimate in 10 yard blocks to the flag you're nuts. Plus who is that accurate anyway?

      @@Madskillsuniversity To be honest I don't use a range finder much. Usually just for making videos. Rest of the time I just use my watch to tell me the middle of the green.

    Very nice review Simon!! I think I will be asking for one for Christmas!! I think I would like one with slope adjustment. But most of the courses I play here are fairly flat!! I think it would also help me with making videos since I used an app for my yardages so I always have to switch from the app to the camera on my phone. 😀👍

      They are working on a premium laser. For my own personal use I prefer the Inesis model I have. I think I'm just used to what I see on the screen and it's a fraction quicker. But I can't hold these things steady enough from 200 yards out.

    Hi Simon, I'm into gadgets, if I was still playing, I would be getting one. Mind you with Parkinsons I might have shaking issues as well. Don't know how you got an early Christmas present, I'm on the naughty list............. Apparently. Keep swinging. Ron

      The present came from the company that makes it. I did say to them don't you want to do this with a big channel that will get you some views? I don't know why but they sent me one. I tried my best, I'm not a presenter - just someone who removes chunks of turf. Friday tomorrow so I will get another present of watching your very good self. Take care. p.s. I've been watching your back catalogue (again) all week looking at the old photographs of stations.

    Nice comprehensive review of this range finder Simon. I think the magnet and the slope switch is a must. I use a cheap one as well and wish it had one of those magnets. Just makes it so much easier to grab and put back. The further back you are the harder it is to pick up the flag especially on a foggy day with no contrast. I think GoGoGo should have went with a rechargeable battery instead of the AAAs. I would rather charge it up before my round and know that I'm good to go vs not knowing how much battery life you have left. Its a great range finder thou especially for the price. Love the color and that groove on the bottom seems like it would feel comfortable in the hand.
    Awesome review Simon!

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  Рік тому +1

      Mark, that magnet was a beast but I agree with you, these things should be rechargable just like a golf watch. They are bringing out an expensive premium one but I very much doubt I would drop 400 on a laser. I did say to them when they make the premium one they could fly me out to China to test it. Not sure that will happen......

    • @ChiliDippaGolf
      @ChiliDippaGolf Рік тому +1

      @@thehairygolfer Yes I agree, they need to fly you out there so you can do a proper test on various courses.
      I wouldn't pay 400 either for a range finder. I'm not that good were I need it to be dead accurate, a few yards off wont matter with my game.

    Congratulations on your first unboxing!!! It's a shame that it isn't waterproof, particularly for UK, as you say!!!
    I don't think the Seniors will register as they all go along at under 3mph!!! Though, the idea of tracking a Senior from the clubhouse balcony to in order to speed them up has a great deal of appeal!!!!
    All in all, that's reasonably impressive, but are the prices competitive enough in the current environment, I wonder? Ben Sayers are £69.99 non-slope, £89.99 with slope (not as good, but waterproof and cheaper) on Clubhouse Golf. That's the GoGoGo's competition!
    All in all, an interesting video particularly on the 17th!!! Shaky hands always seem to be a problem however much you spend! Is using either this or your mate's top of the range one more of a problem while wearing spectacles? That has always put me off lasers, but maybe I need a rethink (not that I'm a good enough golfer anymore to worry about a couple of yards, as I can no longer hit the ball with that sort of accuracy!!!).

      Hi Neville, I find then useful under 170 yards or when firing at a large target like water or bunkers. So useful to me in Thailand that it saved me a ton of shots over 14 rounds.
      I like your point about accuracy, you can have all the information from a top caddy and still hit a bad one.

      Thankyou, I gave all the difficult yardages and it did fine. From shorter distances it got the flag straight away. They are working on a premium model at the moment and hopefully I will get a look at that one too.

  • @davidberlanny3308
    @davidberlanny3308 Рік тому +1

    That was interesting. I'm wondering what your perception of the distances were as opposed to the yardage on the meter and whether that made you change your selection of club, I see you did on one hole. I guess you would need to take in other conditions wind direction, slope wet weather anyway.
    The 18th at Crookhorn had practically no visibility, so the meter wouldn't help in this case, the first 100 yards or so was enclosed with thick trees and was uphill before leveling off to the green. At one time there was a rickety staircase to climb up (maybe 20 foot) so you could see if you could tee off. I was on first name terms with the trees on that hole😆😉😉
    Looked a nice day to go for a round.
    Good luck from Spain!!

      I find that my watch is different to other watches by a yard or two. Sometimes 5. I use these things not as an exact distance but to collect further information. Certainly with the slope it can make me change clubs. Before I would have to guess how much extra or less to take and now it's a little easier to make up my mind. Cheers

    Something I've always wanted to see when testing these is shoot the flag from the tee box, them turn back and shoot the tee box

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  Рік тому

      I went to a course recently that had a practice ground. I hit my tube of balls walked and stood in the middle of them and shot back at my bag to get my average. Noy sure how you pick up a tee box unless there is a sign on it or something. Thanks for watching.

  • @malthuswasright
    @malthuswasright Рік тому +1

    I use a SkyCaddie GPS unit for nearly all my yardages. I do have a laser but the only time I use it really is if I can't see the bottom of the flag and so can't tell how far back on the green the flag is. Consequently I don't need an expensive laser unit. This looks like it could do the job well enough but competition is tough at that end of the market.

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  Рік тому

      I don't get mine out a lot. Used it all the time in Thailand mostly for spotting water and bunkers. I use it more when I'm not on my own course. The market is crowded and they are going to make a premium model. I wouldn't buy an expensive one, pointless.

    Hi Simon. I tried a laser range finder (Bushnel) but found it too difficult to keep it steady. I was never confident I had targeted the flag although it made a vibration supposedly when you had the correct target

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  Рік тому +1

      Hi David, sorry for the delay. I've finally been able to get out and make some videos. I always have a second go with these things just to make sure I've got the flag and not the trees behind. I use the watch mostly and use the laser more when I make videos to get yardages for the video. Also to quote the exact distance on par 3's when the tee is forward and the flag at the front so everyone knows how far I hit a club. I can't hold them steady enough from 200 yards.

      Evening Jeff, I found it most useful in Thailand being able to figure out how far it was to water and sand and jungle. Not too much of that over here. Not far off, seem to have got stuck for a month. Lose a few, gain a few. That's life. Maybe get a few more next year when the weather gets better. I seem to gain some whenever I play away. must be the members of the club.
