I'm Scottish. Kevin Bridges is actually slowing down and pronouncing his words more carefully here. Every day Scottish speech can be faster. I don't know why they're struggling so much here. The thing is, and I've said this before, in Scotland we can understand obscure regional American accents, and regional English accents quite easily because we've been more widely exposed to them via tv and film. Whereas the opposite is far less so. Hence the problem. But maybe that's changing a little thanks to netflix and the internet exposing people in other countries to Scottish culture more.
I'm Irish so happily I'm graced with a complete understanding of even the thickest Scottish accent haha. We are almost as unintelligible to outsiders haha. But luckily at least most Scots can easily understand us and vice versa
I’ve noticed that us Scots tend to be very good at accents
@@calumhowieson9511definitely i had a an Australian friend double my age on ps4 and could copy his accent sound for sound
There used to be a comedy program on tv years ago by Rab c Nesbit, real Scot accent, took me a few weeks for me to fully understand, I'm English but my wife is Brazilian and the look on her face as she tried to get even a little bit, made me laugh
I grew up with that show blew my mind to hear his real voice. He has a posh accent in reality
Let's get the string vests out lol
Lol I went to school with the main character of the show Gregor Fisher.

What a damn classic. More people need to watch it.

Kevin Bridges ‘Bus Stop’ sketch. A must see.
I have Scottish family and as an Englishman with Scottish relatives it can sometimes be very difficult to understand a Glaswegian in full swing. Especially while having a pint with them. Quite often you just nod your head etc as seems appropriate by how they look.
They know what they're doing by the way, they love to confuse us, and we pretend we don't notice that they're purposefully confusing us, it's how we get along.
Glaswegian accents are the hardest to understand for outsiders, and even Scots like me struggle.
The English do have accents that are just as hard... Mancs, Liverpudlians and Cockneys... Birmingham etc etc
I pride myself as understanding all of them... but even I struggle with them.

You should have persevered with Still Game, that gets so much better with each episode 👌
Scot here..I always try to slow down when outside Scotland when talking, unless I’m drunk 😂
LOL!
The Graham Norton show is a lot of fun. Thank you so much for posting this. I need my laughs every day. Just for my health. Kevin is so funny. 🤣
The Irish influence is what transformed British English to American English, so a lot of the sounds etc. are similar and what probably makes it easier to understand.
Not just the Irish influence, it was also the English migrants from the West Country that affected the accent and is the reason for their generous 'R' sounds. That idiosyncratic English speech pattern is still prominent in the south to this day ("I be going", "They be good", You be bad" etc. ).
I am all for you waiting for Queen Boomer. Love the pair of you reacting to it together
Great stuff…enjoying your vids👍
hi mate your reaction videos are quality mate! good work
Keep up the content big man
7:07 I seriously doubt that.
Try watching *The Young Offenders* (2016) film, and *The Young Offenders* (2018-present) TV series, which are set in *Cork, Munster, Ireland* and you'll struggle to understand it for a few episodes at least.
I'm English and have no problem with understanding a Sottish accent 99% of the time. I went out with a Glasweigen girl for 7 years so I'm well trained, I do remember though that when we visited her family in Glasgow (we lived in Nottingham, England) her accent got noticably stronger in a very short amount of time and after returning home again to England her accent then softened back.
I remember my old teacher was Scottish (not sure which part) and taught us in England. To us it was a clear Scottish accent. But apparently when she went home her parents would constantly say she now spoke with and English accent.
Reminds me of her, your story!
@@04williamsl My brother joined the army when he was 16 (he's Glaswegian) and by the time he left the army to work in Broadmore he had this strange mix of Scottish and English accent.
Never met an Englishman or woman who can keep up/translate what I’m saying properly, Glaswegian accents are understandably harder than some Scottish accents.
Hey KB👍Kevin is funny as hell, great reaction and people can just damn well wait, the impatient need to understand you have lives to live and it is the law to ensure an inbetweeners reaction is done in her majesty's presence only!! This law must be obeyed at All times and is subject to harsh punishment if not observed 😂😂 take care mate and regards to her excellency 👍✌️🙏

Hi king boomer funny film to watch the full monty must watch with the queen guaranteed. Chair sweeps 👍🏻
When a Dundonian goes into a chippy he says "Twa pehs an an ingin ane in aw"
Kevin doesn't have a Scottish accent. He has a Glaswegian accent.
We talk very fast but we'll slow down for you when you ask! There are some accents from the north of Scotland that l have to really concentrate on! 🏴

2 Kevin Bridges videos you need to check out are "Sleepover" and "Waiting for a takeaway". To of the funniest bits of stand up I've ever seen!
I never have any trouble with accents...( from a very mixed heritage so that may help) ....but always cracks me up when people struggle with accents
if you want to watch a kevin bridges reaction, there are 2 that are pretty good. the one where he talks about the economy, and the other one i think is labelled "im coming for you Stu"
I am Scottish and LOVE the Belfast accent and the Geordie too. That would be heaven having a Geordie talking to me all day
King Boomer you need to watch the two Scotsmen in a lift sketch, you'll love it.
Please explore the different regional accents and idioms of a small island in Europe! Amazballs!
This is really funny as a British person, Kevin is trying so hard to slow down & enunciate and they still don’t understand him!!! God knows what they’d hear if he was on a full rant 😂
Grew up in Kent, England I understand most accents of English speaking people around the world, the only one I really struggle with is a thick geordie accent. A lot of people I know struggle with Scottish accents but I don't have any trouble with it
It's all about how much exposure you've had to any particular accent. This is why most Americans can't understand the Scottish accent, they don't get to hear it enough.
Please do Kevin Bridges, if Facebook was a pub! 😁
You either nod up and own if they are trying to persuade you. You nod side to side if they're not happy. My Scottish pals might punch me for saying that, but they still laugh. 😆
Kevin bridges live don’t get any better than him hes brilliant
If you want more Scottish humour, I have an excellent recommendation for you -- a BBC comedy series called "Two Doors Down". It's set in a small town near Glasgow, and is about the residents of one street. It is one of those shows that makes the most mundane of events utterly hilarious, and has lots of annoying neighbour themes. I think you'd like it... and they're on the sixth series now! :-) There's one incredibly foul-mouthed character called Christine who has me in stitches every time she's on screen!
EDIT: if you do watch this, maybe start with season 1, episode 2 to really get into the comedy of it straight away. The first episode isn't as funny because it's doing a lot of character building / set up 👍
The Sleepover from Hell - Kevin Bridges.
Kevin Bridges does some good sketches about Chad Hogan, a fictional US character and his epic house parties 🥳
"Come here kids, Jimmy Sue, Bobby Will, Big Fishy Bob,....talk British to my kids"
"What do you mean, its English, hello"
Your first comment satisfies my curiosity as to when the next inbetweeners episode, look forward to your fine lady being shocked
Listen to Lulu and how she sounds, she speaks with a soft English accent when she`s on T.V. but, soon as she`s back up here in Scotland, she switches back to full Glaswegian again. She`s denied doing that in the past but, just listen to some of her previous interviews and it comes across very evidently.
Years ago, IBM were developing speech to text software, and they gave it to us to try. Our bosses gave it to a Glasgow lad called Ewan to test. IBM lost. It did not have a clue with his accent. 😂
When they made the movie Trainspotting with Ewan McGregor. They had to dub the original soundtrack with toned down accents for the release in America.
I also think Dubliners and Northern Irish people are pretty easy to understand but if someone is from Cork, I have some big-time trouble. Because I've been listening to Glaswegians since I was 15, they're pretty to understand, but you really gotta get used to the different vowels.
From Scandinavia where we are taught a weird mix of RP (BBC English) and Standard American English.
Had relatives from Mayo and if they were in full swing you could barely understand a word they said.
Kerry as well, sometimes I have to wait a second to get my ear in 😂
As a Scotsman, when we say we sometimes don't understand ourselves, we don't just mean the Scottish people around us... we literally mean we sometimes don't know what we are saying when we speak
You may want to watch Still Game, a brilliant Scottish comedy show
I used to work on the roads many years ago with northern irish im,e english and it was really hard to understand them, try listening to northern irish see if you can understand them,it would be fun to see if you can.
Every region in the uk has a different region some accents are difficult and you need time to tune in to them thanks for the clips
Still Game is great, Scottish comedy series, chewing the fat, is a Scottish sketch show, both very funny!
Try Ankle Frostbit boy, from the sticks of Northern Ireland lol
Kevin saying about speaking English - I worked in tourism for four years in central Edinburgh, and got all sorts including that (my colleague laughing just said she learnt it from a very young age)! I'm an AngloScot (lived in both, one parent of each) so my accent veers from posh South Edinburgh to Peter Kay and everything inbetween depending where I am!
I’m Scottish and it’s fun watching UA-camrs like English UA-camr try and understand the Scottish accent it’s so funny😂
As someone from the North East of England, I've struggled down the South of the country with people understanding me. Bit better these days, but at one point I practically had to spell out everything I was saying, especially on work phone calls 😆
you should check out Armstrong and Miller - WW2 pilots sketches
It's funny in the UK, sometimes no matter where you are in any of the countries you can get caught out by local dialect, just because they'll have their own micro-language sometimes, I'm Welsh and have travelled all over the UK, sometimes even when I'm in Wales I'll have to stop and think about what someone is trying to say, even if they're just from the next village as they'll use a different word to say hello which is a unique and local bastardisation of a well-known word, but changed just enough to make you stop and think for a second, one funny thing about the Welsh is if you meet a Welsh person with a very strong Welsh accent the likelihood is they can't speak the Welsh language, and most of the actual Welsh speakers tend to have a much more subtle accent, for me one of the most difficult dialects to understand is Cornish, which is funny as they're closely linked to the Welsh.
I had a similar problem, Mark. Scottish father, Irish mother, spent my younger years in England being brought up by my Scottish grandparents, then moved to Wales for a few years. I was in South Wales last week and automatically dropped into the words and accent I had when in my teens. I'm sure the guy I was talking to thought I was taking the piss but I couldn't help it. I had to make an effort to speak in my now English accent.
I appricate you waiting for the queen man. I am definitely one of those waiting for the inbetweeners reaction, but it would be so much better with her there also
You should definetly react to Still Game. A comedy show based in Glasgow.
I’m also Scottish but from the northern isles. Usually people understand us fine. It’s the ‘weegie” ( Glasgow) accent that seems to cause issues
Talking of accents. Can you say _'I could go for a gram of Graham Norton right about now'_ 🤣
I worked with an Irish lad from West cork, he spoke at a hundred miles an hour, funny
Still great stuff mate! Keep it going strong! OK, so I'm an Australian living in Ireland... the accent conversation would take waaaaayyyy too long... might I suggest you check out,

Kevin Bridges is probably the best stand up comedian in the UK right now. Him and Micky Flanagan are untopped right now
You need to react to the show “still game” hilarious Scottish show American/Canadian reaction from hey look squirrel loves it
You should react to Chris O'Dowd drunk on the last leg. It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever watched
You need to react to Kevin Bridges Chad Hogan. It's an amazing story that grew from a throwaway joke to a small sensation on social media up here.
You need to react to burnistoun - elevator recognition. Sums up how much us Scots suffer haha

He's actually talking English with a Scottish accent.
Generally what people perceive as 'Scottish' is SCOTS, from the East cost.
There are many accents and different actual languages in Scotland.
I think, if it is available to you check out Allo Allo (the spelling is deliberate) it's a comedy set in Occupied France during WW2 typically British full of weird characters and at least half the humour comes from the crazy accents mustn't give too much away HA
You should react to a Rab C Nesbitt video, he is pretty hard to understand, but also very funny!
Accents are funny things. The one I struggle with from that side of the pond is the Deep South. I can usually tune into it after twenty ish minutes of exposure to it.
I’m Scottish and I can understand all English speaking accents. In the UK you can literally drive 45mins and the accent will be noticeably different.
It’s not just the accent that changes it’s the alternative words used when explaining or describing something. If you can’t immediately pick up on the change of phrase then you don’t understand rather than the accent itself.
In the army my first day at my unit first day I shared a room with a Scot an I was like how ya doing, but I'm from Yorkshire so it's as bad for a scot to understand , so I said "I don't know what your saying" and he said "I dinny Ken wat ur sayin" which means same thing an we was just repeating an getting louder an louder until we gave up , took 20 min and me talking with a posh accent to get through to each other 🤣
All my family on my dads side are scotts, and i still have problems sometimes
I used to watch Rab C Nesbitt with the subtitles on, between that and having a Glaswegian drinking pal I'm now fluent in Scottish, though a conversation with one of them is still awkward as I have a broad Brummie accent so they can't understand a word I say.
I am Irish, my Exhusband is from Liverpool. We had a Glaswegian lodger for a while. I hosted two ladies from our twin town in Belgium. The ladies and I were able to converse in a mixture of English and French. They were just about able to understand my exhusband, but I had to translate when my lodger spoke with them!
The more you train you ear to the accent the easier it becomes , and you get to understand it , we do slow it down when talking to non Scottish folks ,or a least try lol
I have mates like Greece.
Kevin Bridges.
Will watch your video now
Edit.
Thanks
Ulster Scots or Scots Irish from Northern Ireland have a big influence in American accents and culture. The word Hill Billy is derived from Northern Irish protestants. Also 17 US Presidents are Ulster Scots/Scots Irish.
One of the strangest things anybody has ever said to me was in Scotland. I went skiing there with the school & we had an afternoon in Edinburgh to buy gifts to take home. Two ladies overheard me talking to a friend turned around said "you have such a lovely Irish accent" I was only twelve & didn't know what to say so just smiled. I'm English.... a Londoner to be precise, & had never been to Ireland although I've spent a lot of time there since. Even now I don't understand why she thought the way she did!
Some of us Scots have very gentle accents, we don't all speak in harsh Glaswegian.
Sometimes when on the phone or speaking to Alexa I have to put on an English accent just to be understood, Alexa hardly ever understands 😂
There is not just one Irish accent every county has different accents the further south or north the thicker/ stronger the accents. Even in Dublin there's a few variations in the accent.
Was in Scotland (stirling) last week - no real problem with the accent other than for one guy who was from the Scottish West Coast, I thought he was saying Cardiff Bay when in fact it was Canterbury. Also struggled with a strong US southern accent, found I really had to concentrate oi understand what they are saying.
I have no problem understanding Kevin Bridges. But when listening to Frankie Boyle, I'm always rewinding to figure out what he said (and usually wishing I hadn't). I do have some trouble with Johnny Vegas, too, and he's not even Scottish.
The northern Irish accent, whenever I was on holiday I always got mistaken for being Scottish
Years ago I went to see my English Brother when he lived in San Francisco. On the train, this American mistook my Brother's accent for an Australian. He sounded nothing like an Australian.
Weirdly as a scot when i’m abroad people often insist i sound merican…i have what might be a polite central scottish accent…not posh just kinda neutral…often people only register a glasgow accent as scottish abroad and i sound somehow american…weird weird world
Had to laugh when you said the Irish accent was the easiest to understand. Ian Paisley hold my beer! People in Britain understand most but not neccesarily all accents here but we grow up hearing different accent of the four countries and realise you have to learn to listen differently! I also think British humour is as varied as our accents compared to America.
There are different Scottish accents in different parts of the country and some are easier to understand than others. If you can understand Irish then you have to watch Derry Girls which is utterly brilliant.
Still say you should do a live reaction watch along/drink along once you hit 50k, where we can all just open up a few cans and get all jolly at your reaction and post live comments, kind of like the thing you do with the live stream for games
That is a great idea👍 hopefully the Royal family of YT reactions will be able to link up for a 50k together if their work patterns allow ✌️
Logging in every day to inbetweeners episodes haha
I am Scottish and was in New York for the US open tennis and they thought I was Australian 🤦♂️🤣. Love the states would be great if you and the Queen came over to Scotland 🏴
Try "How to speak Belfast, Northern Ireland by Christopher Wilson " its brilliant and hilarious.
It depends what part the person is from.i married a glaswegian and I understood him and I understand Billy Connelly.
It’s funny because any video of Scottish people talking, like here, they are slowing down, talking as clearly as they can, and not using any slang words. If he was talking to a Scottish mate I guarantee you wouldn’t understand a word.
I’m Scottish and work for a global company so work with loads of Americans, English, Indians etc, and honestly it’s so frustrating when I have to repeat myself 4/5 times. It gets to the stage where I say I can’t speak and slower or clearer!
The only time I have ever watched the inbetweeners is with yourself and the Queen, so I have plenty of time wait to watch with you two. Used to watch Monty Python from when they first were aired back n the 70s. The inbetweeners were on a channel with adverts so that's a very good reason not to watch them back in the day.
I think the Aussies can understand us very well, the only place in England I’ve not had to repeat myself is in Newcastle, they totally understand us! But saying that it depends on which part of Scotland you’re from, the west coast (Glasgow ish) is the easiest but the further north and east you go it turns into a harsher accent, I’m from fife so I can’t talk about accents 😂
I have no problem with Scottish accents.
My best mate moved from Glasgow to Australia with his family as an 11 year-old, and a couple of years later we started hanging out in High School. 1977.
I became very close with his family...and extended family in Scotland; as I've travelled there five times and spent about a year there in total. Love Glasgow.
My Glaswegian has been known to fool the locals.
Australia gets heaps of shows from England and Scotland, so there are a lot of people who get the accent, culture, references etc. easily, and then there are the guys who just watch reruns of stuff like the Simpsons etc. There are plenty of British immigrants in Australia too. If you play soccer, odds are that at least half of the team is from all over the UK, so you get exposed to all the accents. The one that makes me laugh the most is the Black Country, just with they way they say certain things. Joe Lycett is from around that area and does a good impression if you look it up. Nicole Kidman was also on Graham Norton with a Scotsman and couldn't understand much, but then Elle Macpherson was on with Frankie Boyle and she didn't have any trouble.

As I come from South Wales, UK 🙄 I have an accent similar to Burton and Hopkins so I've been told although I don't think I have an accent, lol and the year before 9-11 I went to see my Uncle and Aunty in California so one day after Breakie we popped in to a shop next to the restaurant and went in had a bit of a chat to the man behind the counter and he said ain't those fires bad back home which I said no and then he said he loves my Aussie accent lol 🤣😂🤣😂 the thing is he said what country do you come from to my Aunt who has now a full blown US accent with the length of time she's been there lol I nearly wet myself but then when we left it's your fault lol me lol yes sah said I'm picking up your accent lol 🙄
