Could have never imagined this way back in 1996 when I first got my very own Pentium pro desktop computer with a 1gb hard drive and 16mb RAM! Technology has sure come quite far!
and now you can run hundreds of adware, malware, trojans, keyloggers, bitcoin miners and viruses at the same time and you browser will still lag like it's 1996 again
This looks like a really interesting single board computer. I love the fact it comes pre-installed with Windows 10 and that it has Arduino capabilities this would make for some interesting projects. Thanks for reviewing it, I look forward to further videos showing off this little PC.
Imagine grafting this SBC into a RS model 100//Definitely more powerful than any of my laptops and most of my desktops// would love to play around with a couple of these kits Absolutely Amazing
You might be interested in the UDOO x86. It is an x86 single board computer that has compatibility with Arduino hardware and software, through a compatible microcontroller that can interface with the x86 processor. It bills itself as "the most powerful maker board ever". Seems pretty interesting.
Thank for all your help. My project is this. I had order a 200w amplifier board a year ago and haven't use it. So I looked all over and found these clear 18" document cases. So if I can use a broadband stick for portable internet, when done it'll basically be a clear boombox that streams music, emulates all the classic game systems, and plays music vids from youtube on the 10.1 touch screen. I'll made a vid when done to share with you. Thank you for all, and keep making wonderful vids. ( ; ) )
K cpu's have unlocked multipliers, allowing you to easily overclock the CPU exclusively from the rest of the machine. This is the common most understanding of over clocking. He can try to overclock something else like the front bus, which will also increase the clock speed of things like the RAM. This option is more limiting though. Nevertheless, overclocking could be done!
I have been watching your videos since the beginning and this one is like usual an excellent and informative video. Based on the video I purchased a Latte Panda 4/64GB. It came with the connector for the WiFi cable not fitting. Compared to other connectors of the same model, it seemed to be bend, not sure. Without the antenna no way to activate Win10. Finally I was able to force it in and connect to my WiFi network. The WiFi connection is slower than comparable single board computers I use. Fortunately this application doesn't need constant WiFi connection. On the positive side, the construction is excellent and I like having simple access to the external connections. It is the perfect solution for this project and the size fits perfectly behind the 5" LCD. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
This can be used to construct a home made all in one pc. The board can be mounted in a small box, and the box and an external 1tb hard drive connected to the usb 3 port could be attached to the back of a TV.
Put this in to perspective; the year was 1984 I purchased my 386 DX PC with 4 MB of RAM and just released ATI graphic card with 1MB on board memory. My HD was huge 120 MB Conner. After they install DOS 6.0 and Windows 3.1, there was still about 112 MB left and I began to wonder what I'm going to do with all this space. I was connecting to CompuServe with 2400 Baud Rate US Robotics modem. My monitor was the latest and greatest .25DPI ViewSonic monitor, just released to the market. The price $2700.00 without printer. Sorry young generation; you just have to google things like CompuServe and Prodigy.
1984? I'm impressed. The 386 DX processor wasn't released until October 17, 1985 and your PC would have struggled to run Windows 3.1. That didn't come along until April 6, 1992! The gentleman doth forget too much, methinks ;)
Actually, it was better for gaming than an LCD. I have a Sony, 25" CRT flat screen at .20DPI, with built in KVM. If I had a place to put it, I'd be using it. It's faster than the flat panel monitors for gaming.
I know this video is a few years old, but I have been searching for a cheap windows 10 computer like this for about a year. I got raspberry pi's but for what I need it for won't work. This will work great
What kind of future are we living in? An x64 quad-core, 2 GB RAM, 32 GB storage, integrated graphics, and for $109 USD and about the size of a hand! I would've never imagined!!
This would be an amazing replacement to my dual tablet install in my car. Grab a couple of these guys, along with a couple touch lcd panels, the possibilities would be endless. I could run relay's and control all my lights, my horn, hell I could set it up to start my car from my cell phone provided it's within wifi range, or just run a hotspot so I could start/unlock it from anywhere it has cellular signal. Man this thing is cool as hell. I hope it can support Windows 7 since it supports 10 just fine.
by saying a keylogger OS is better. a OS that does things without the users permission is better. a OS that treats all users as idiots is better. a OS where users cant disable things like cortana or windows update is better a OS where the forced updates can make the system unstable is better Then I guess it is "better" Wake up it is not better it is worse.
Thanks for the great unboxing and overview! As for cooling, please note that dfrobot.com sells a couple of different cases, a fan, and heat sinks for the individual board components - all for an affordable price. Also note that the installed Windows 10 software for the larger (4GB/64GB) LattePanda configuration is not activated like it is on the smaller version, so a separate Windows license must either be transferred from another device or purchased from Microsoft ($99) - nearly doubling the cost of the system. Keep up the great work!
Mated with and ESS and breakout board, this would make a brilliant Mach4 platform for CNC machines that would fit into a very small space. With the wired Ethernet for the CNC connection and Wireless to hook up to a network, this has everything you need for that application.
This is an old SBC but can we take a moment to marvel at that CPU heat spreader? It's so thick, big, and efficient. It's great. Imagine the current x86 ones with a heat spreader that big? Oh baby!
I just succeeded (finally) in booting my Windows 10 Z8350 Atom Intel into Linux (actually Ubilunix), so this board, being similar, with a bit of minor screwing around can do the same. Chris, if you are interesting in doing a video on that process let me know. I can advise if necessary. Love your videos and your style!
My cat pressed "F" on the keyboard. Now I know how to make the video fullscreen. I'm serious.. i'm not even commenting about the video... well... in a way yes. Anyways if you discovered this shortcut it's all thanks to a cat. you're welcome :p
I just saw your broadband laptop stick reply and that...is.....AWESOME!!! That'd be the most important part of the build. So long as I can carry it around, I can play full albums on youtube. WOOHOOO!!!
GR8T demo/walk through... Simply put "I WANT ONE"! (it's so small:). Only thing I would change (if I could) is to swap out 'cough cough. W10 to W7 :o)) But I'm sure I can suppress that goofy MeTrO look with all those "social media" buttons.. ugh! MS should create two distinct versions.. one for (media) "consumers" and one for "creators". BUT I LIKE WHAT I SEE - considering my choices. Will head off to the supplier mentioned. They deserve the business. Cheers! Peace..
Cooling is a problem that should be solved. Also a Problem is the Processor - i think that some programms cant be work with atom-processors correctly. I will be happy to get more infos about this both points in future :)
Milos Djeric I refused the upgrade and immediately after the deadline for the free upgrade was past, my windows 7 crashed. I was forced to wipe my drive and install linux.
This is the time to start coding and making gadgets for me. I don´t mean the panda is the right system compared to pi but im amazed how the computing has evolved for example since ten years ago. I though mini laptops were the coolest thing (never got one luckily) and BOOOM tablets destoyed them completely. It was last year when I thought when will the single board pc run a major consumer OS. Its affordable to make home automation and monitoring at home.
Great video, mate. Am considering getting a Windows 10 computer for streaming music, pictures and movies onto my Full-HD tv in my living room. Gonna have a closer look at the specs on this one.
In that case this could work well for you. I have found the LattePanda to be a very capable SBC. I like the Pi too. But the Panda has a bit more poke to it. :)
Thank you again for taking the time to let me know what options I have. I think I'm going do the initial build with my 4/64, and then upgrade in the spring possibly. I did find out that I only need to pay $14.99/mo. to turn my phone into a mobile hotspot, and then my lattepanda can leave the house. ( : ) ) Prolly wait till spring for that as well.
i think it will work, because most intel chip and drive uses by windows..in linux we have the driver..or open driver for it..i would like to install kali linux on this board also..lol..imagine..small hacking hardware..bizzare
Its getting very near the point sensible people will be looking elsewhere for their computing solutions. Intel, Windows, Apple, Google... none of these are trustworthy. Not even Ubuntu. Every damn one of them is full of telemetry which ultimately gives the US government a direct path to your thoughts and interests. People do not realize how all this shit works... It's ironic we may now have to go where... China? Brazil? For trustworthy computing platforms. We've recycled all the trustworthy computing devices, long gone to metal recyclers. No more Pentium IIIs and P2B-X motherboards. Buying a device like this designed from the ground up to run Windows is like buying a gun that only fires when you're pointing at your own head.
Brad Scott Hello! Ubuntu is *open source*. The code is available to *all*. That means if there are spy codes embedded therein people would see it and it would make news.
There is and it has, but no one cares. Ubuntu comes with a desktop search agent configured that, by default, sends all your search strings upstream to Amazon and, depending on what "lenses" are enabled, others a well. Everytime you use the panel to search for anything (and that is how oyu use it) that telemetry is recorded and used to help remember things for your convenience. You can disable it and remove it, but you have to do that yourself. By default, it is integrated in this way. And, with the partnership with Microsoft, who knows what kinda weird kernel stuff they're going to start doing there. Windows is open source as well. You havbe to put up some money and sign a bunch of legal disclosures, but Microsoft will allow you to audit their code. You can't do anything with it including talk about it with others, but it is technically open source. Open Source is a meaningless expression. GNU is free software, not just open source. And when you start dabbling in binary blobs that only certain people are allowed to see, you're right back on the path that got us in this mess we're all in at present. Free software, free societies.
A month ago I bought the 2/32 version and it is really an amazing device. I use it in my livingroom connected to my TV. Perhaps you like to know that it has now a Z8350 processor and a Windows 10 64-bit operating system.
To be honest I think an x86 based single board computer undermines the principles of single board computers but it's nice to have something like this available anyway.
MrMovieMan941 you could theoretically make your own tablet pc running windows... be a bit bulky but hey! Full windows on a tablet... who's complaining?
I saw this video before and didn't pursue it because of the price. This one comes with a software package that runs in Wind 10, with Visual Studio, to "operate" or access the Arduino I/O. But I also need precision analog input A/D conversion, which will probably have to be breadboarded separately. Kinda pricey for $119, with the activated Win 10 OS, but the barebones package is only $89.
I dunno. After Bill Gates left Microsoft and stopped doing what he does best, which is to envision, the quality of Windows OSs have been in decline, and for a long time, I wasn't able to change the background on my existing, paid-for copy of Windows 10. Now, I think there were enough complaints about it that Microsoft let it back in. In the meantime, I'm in the market for a newer, better OS, but I suspect that, with all technologies that evolve, they tend ted to devolve as time moves on. I'm even losing interest in the internet, just because of the hogs that occupy it, youtube, for instance, and google. As for Linux, I've never been able to get used to it - it just doesn't have the feel of Windows. Well, the old versions - 95, 98, XP, etc.
I think we can call a computer with Windows installed a "Windows computer". And here, it is very difficult to install anything else -- certainly you cannot boot an install Linux from USB in the normal fashion (and many people have tried). In theory this could run Linux. In practice nobody is offering a distro and means of install that works . . . (which is a shame I agree!).
Well, my point is if it were a PC, if it were compatible enough you could install a Linux distro, because Linux is compatible indeed. Perhaps you're right, and this computer is not a PC but limited to the included Windows. I do think that's a shame, because there's no reason except perhaps hardware design shortcuts to fit it. I can see how this would be useful to replace components on a factory floor for things like established Access-based production systems. But for the home user, to me this competes with ITX+Blu-Ray for media center type applications, and I'm not sure it gets there. But there's always enthusiast (hate that word!) I/O applications, and this might let you apply the software you're used to.
I've got a windows 10 tablet and it would not run any linux live usb images I tried. Maybe they are actively denying it. So again disappointing. Think I will buy a lattepanda anyway :)
If you want to run Linux (other then to say you can) just get a rPi 3 and save the money. I believe the target market for this is the windows crowd, that wants to pay more to run windows.
Uh... It's an X86 computer. It'll run linux just fine. This is a board designed for people who for some specific reason want X86, or people who don't understand how to use linux. The latter probably shouldn't be getting into buying SoCs in the first place.
I'm a big fan, and an old time Geek (First computer I had was in 1978, had to write my O/S in Assy language!). Your website is awesome, and I fully understand what your sight is all about. Exciting stuff, unique content. Keep up the good work my friend!
Simplest and cheapest way to cool it down a bit is to place it directly on an upside-down AMD stock CPU heatsink, that big chunk of aluminum will passively dissipate a lot of heat.
I think your suggestion about the licensing may have been just the answer I was hoping for. If that's the case, it is how it's acting, I may be able to just purchase a full version of Windows with store access. When yuh put to sharp minds together, the solution usually arises. Thank you, Friend.
Actually the edge browser is well done uses less power and super fast. But being a web developer the most important thing difference from IE is that edge teams seems to be intent at faster implementation of new CSS3 and HTML5 standards and elements as they come.
Michi Lo Just because you got a good deal doesn't mean they usually go for 100 euro. They go for much much more than that on average. And it's still a huge computer. Doesn't really serve the same purpose as this.
I've found a video with the solution but it's more than I'm willing to try doing on my topshelf pannda. It pretty much involves wiping it clean and intallin android 6.0 instead. Thank you again for all your help.
This video is so confusing! Not because of the mentioned product, but the mix of two different worlds, I mean... We have a guy with a 1950 haircut showing us some very recent single board tech... I'm... Confused... Is he like, from the past but the past was to dull for him and he built a time machine e came into the future cause' he's so advanced and that's where he belongs... I... I just can't...
razzberry piie attracted ppl(younger age) to linux windows want to fight it i think they have to lower there OS price or make it free coz linux is free and the whole point of this is very low price mini-computer
"Windows" isn't doing anything. The company that makes these just bought the Windows 10 activation keys from Microsoft to use in their product, just like any company would for a PC or Laptop. It just so happens that this is a single board computer. It is not some reaction to Linux based boards by Microsoft, it is just a product that one company is selling.
I think it is a good idea to have a board that instead of having a GPIO it have a IO bus line where you can connect IO modules, communication modules(e.g. Profibus, CAN bus, etc), and additional power supply module for high power outputs, similar to PLCs making it compatible to available industrial components such as sensors, solenoids, etc.
Hopefully you understand Microsoft has been screwing up with windows lately. Like corrupting other harddrives on your computer when updating to anniversary edition, and also breaking drivers like sound drivers so audio is messed up.
Could have never imagined this way back in 1996 when I first got my very own Pentium pro desktop computer with a 1gb hard drive and 16mb RAM! Technology has sure come quite far!
What?! 16 MB of RAM? back in the days that costed a fortune...
And my computer have x1024 times the memory
Has sience gone too far?
Mate. You are way too young ;)
and now you can run hundreds of adware, malware, trojans, keyloggers, bitcoin miners and viruses at the same time and you browser will still lag like it's 1996 again
Clean up your computer then and stop moaning dude.
I'm glad he brought Mr. Scissors. I was worried there for a second.

I love your videos; pleasant, entertaining, and informative. Well done and thanks!
That processor could cover your needs for watching 1080p movies and surfing!
720p would play smooth but 1080p may be a stuttery.
It would work great for kodi
Scottish_Gamer
who's kodi?
CreeperGuy555 And its a great app I use it all the time for watching free movies and tv shows. Free live tv is good as well
CreeperGuy555 :P i thought he was making some sort of joke
This looks like a really interesting single board computer. I love the fact it comes pre-installed with Windows 10 and that it has Arduino capabilities this would make for some interesting projects.
Thanks for reviewing it, I look forward to further videos showing off this little PC.
It goes in the right direction. Windows is a more comfortable os and i think in future this may a good solution for much projects be.
Headphone jacks? MicroSD slot? Apple, take notes!
Quite! :)

Actually, it was better for gaming than an LCD. I have a Sony, 25" CRT flat screen at .20DPI, with built in KVM. If I had a place to put it, I'd be using it. It's faster than the flat panel monitors for gaming.
1984 my parents didn't even know themselves 😁

I was actually quite surprised by the performance. I didn't think full windows 10 would run that good on a piece of hardware like this.
can you upgrade to windows 7
Yeah Windows 7 on the 4GB version would be nice as a HTPC
thats great .why would you want to put w10 .ps what do you call malware that becomes an operating system..........windows 10

I’m a kickstarter backer, waiting delivery on the newest latte panda. I intend to try a lot of experiments with different home projects 🤓.
The new LattePanda looks really cool. I too am waiting for it! :)
100$ Windows License 9$ Components...
you can get windows 8 or 7 cheaper on g2a then upgrade that to windows 10
u didnt get it...he means that if they would sell it without an OS it would cost about 10 bucks...
Not anymore, the 1-year free upgrade is over. It ended the end of last month. Where have you been? lol
32GB flash space 18GB windows files...
No license fee because it's uses max 4 GB of RAM
Gaming on this would be interesting. 2D and light 3D games; Emulators and such.
Very much.
Stepmania will run perfectly here. Mini stepmania cabinet, it's real
Minecraft, that would run decent.
Thanks for the great unboxing and overview!

when a $100 single board computer has a SD card slot but a $3000 mac book 'pro' doesn't. XD
Indeed! :) It has a 3.5mm headphone socket too! :)
haha i didn't even think about that, it honestly seems like a grate deal especially considering that windows normally cost $100 alone.
These boards would be great if they could make cases that would let you have an SSD and other things in it. Love to use one as an htpc someday.
So true.

This is just beautiful, much better than the Pi in every aspect.

i like the way he explains things. i learn alot from watching him. more then i did in college.
I'm done with Linux, this looks awesome.
But what about if you could install linux on this? Like to wipe Windows or install Linux side by side with Windows as dual boot
Nasrani MinAlGharb But I'm done with linux, so I wouldn't do that.
*****
Ok
Milos Djeric
I'm not much into windows. I only use it to run applications that doesn't exist in Linux, and doesn't run properly using wine.
Milos Djeric
I refused the upgrade and immediately after the deadline for the free upgrade was past, my windows 7 crashed.
My imagination lights up when I saw wifi antenna and SD card reader...
would this be a better choice than a raspberry pi 3 to make a small emulation based games console?
Quite possibly, if you have Windows-based emulation software.
ExplainingComputers for software i was thinking the windows version of retroarch
In that case this could work well for you. I have found the LattePanda to be a very capable SBC. I like the Pi too. But the Panda has a bit more poke to it. :)
ExplainingComputers thanks :)
This thing is not in the same category as raspberry pi. It's $150. If you're fine with Linux, why not get the new Orage Pi 2 for $20?
I love the Arduino coprocessor idea.
All sounds wise -- go ahead with what you have now, and see how it goes. :)
Did someone try it with Linux (Arch or Debian based distros)? I don't work with Windows for a decade, and don't intend to.
no one asked you, linux dorks are worst than vegans, geesh.
What a troll....
Ignore the kids. I would also like to know if and how linux runs on it.
just leaving a comment to get me notified in case someone has experiences with it. little x86 pcb computer with linux would really come in handy.
i think it will work, because most intel chip and drive uses by windows..in linux we have the driver..or open driver for it..i would like to install kali linux on this board also..lol..imagine..small hacking hardware..bizzare
Can Linux run on this? Does the firmware allow booting from USB and or Memory Card?
LOL. Why would you want to? A pi3 walks all over it for 40 bucks. It's a 200MHz piece-a Chinese intelligence.
It depends. The Odroid-XU4 walk all over the Pi3, but some are looking for x86 based SBC. Comparing ARM to x86_64 is comparing apples and oranges.
Brad Scott
Hello!
Good to know, and I'm not surprised that it is a great TV PC. :)
To be honest I think an x86 based single board computer undermines the principles of single board computers but it's nice to have something like this available anyway.
But can it run Crysis???
Video yes xD
That would just be a Crysis...
eXoguti097 bad joke, bad joke...
The Z8700 actually does.
you could stream Crysis to it
so putting this in a pc monitor equals cheapest all in one pc :D
MrMovieMan941 you could theoretically make your own tablet pc running windows... be a bit bulky but hey! Full windows on a tablet... who's complaining?
I saw this video before and didn't pursue it because of the price.
This one comes with a software package that runs in Wind 10, with Visual Studio, to "operate" or access the Arduino I/O. But I also need precision analog input A/D conversion, which will probably have to be breadboarded separately. Kinda pricey for $119, with the activated Win 10 OS, but the barebones package is only $89.
And you can "evaluate" Windows 10 without activation indefinately . . . The only real restriction is that you cannot change the desktop background.
Finally found single board computer that can actually run Windows, Thanks 👍🏻
It's a PC, no such thing as a Windows Computer. Have you tested this with Linux?
Great channel and we tech freaks have been waiting for you to arrive.
Many thanks. :)
I think the activated copies of Windows on a LattePanda may be Enterprise licensed, and as such may not include the Windows Store.
On Amazon they provide $62.79 installation for this.
What exactly are they going to install? The USB cable?
I feel like ordering it just to see.
Anon Mason put it in a case 😂
I'd rather it didn't come with Winblows it's gonna ramp up the price.
SpudHead actually Windows doesn't charge a fee for the licensing if it is on a low cost PC. it's been that way for about a year.
everyone in the comments hating on windows 10, but ive been using it since the first public beta and have never regretted it, anyone else with me?
Actually the edge browser is well done uses less power and super fast. But being a web developer the most important thing difference from IE is that edge teams seems to be intent at faster implementation of new CSS3 and HTML5 standards and elements as they come.
Am I the only one who was reminded by the song Desiigner - Panda by this video and went to go and listen to it? xD
Yes, you are.
Ok, shit. This thing is expensive. For that price I can get 3 Raspberry Pi 3, or 22 Raspberry Pi Zero, or a real PC.
A real PC? ermmmm for $107?
Sacco Belmonte Go on ebay. It might not be the newest, but it is probably still more powerful than this one.
Yes because a $107 PC is old tech and it's huge.
***** I got a 2012 Mac Pro for 100€. It had bad ram installed, but after removing it, it still has 12 GB. And it works.
I would not try this either!
This new intro is great!
you nice dude
LOL for Win10 - the Mircosoft spy in small package.
I will like to see a RavenRidge in that form factor. It would be an awesome device
Indeed!
Love your videos on these tiny boards. Just subbed to this channel, as well as your ‘Explaining the Future’ channel, too. Thanks for the knowledge!
Thanks for the subs! :)
1950's haircut? Look at your own photo! Is it one of them thar rockers? Nearly a Tony Curtis! LOL
I'd like to use this with another os like linux.
This would be ideal for retroarch, pretty cool.
Ive seen quiteva few, so far this looks like the best one as it does somthing for everyone.
Make it Win 7 compatible and I'll get one.
It most likely is, unless Cherry Trail is like Skylake.
ender_scythe I wouldn't like to come across with the news of no supporting drivers...
Nonnof Yobiznes q1
Nonnof Yobiznes Yeah.
CPU too slow for you, you need a geekbench of 2000++ for today's OS.
Why would someone want Windows 10 when he can have LINUX ?!? dont get it.
***** ahahahahahahaha!!!! Thats why like 98% of all Supercomputer in the World run Linux, NOT Windows. What a Dumbass.
razzberry piie attracted ppl(younger age) to linux
windows want to fight it
i think they have to lower there OS price or make it free coz linux is free and the whole point of this is very low price mini-computer
never mind 100$? isnt it a little high?
"Windows" isn't doing anything. The company that makes these just bought the Windows 10 activation keys from Microsoft to use in their product, just like any company would for a PC or Laptop. It just so happens that this is a single board computer. It is not some reaction to Linux based boards by Microsoft, it is just a product that one company is selling.
I think he was sarcastic!
Always very informative and entertaining. Thank you for the good videos.
I want to upgrade this to Windows 7. I consider Windows 10 a downgrade.
Hopefully you will upgrade your intelligence soon! Good luck!
Thank you very kind.
Hopefully you understand Microsoft has been screwing up with windows lately. Like corrupting other harddrives on your computer when updating to anniversary edition, and also breaking drivers like sound drivers so audio is messed up.
I have no troubles with windows 10.
You are a renegade.. Very negative person
Edge is a complete waste of clock cycles.
That is cool as hell. I don't think I've seen anything like it. Thank you for sharing. You just won a sub from me for sure. Take care.
Looks great, I have a couple of applications that won't run on my pi but run wonderfully under early windows versions this would be perfect.
