    Another amazing video! I bought one of these a while ago on ebay for the equivalent of $70 about a month ago, not including the charger (pretty cheap thankfully). I really scored with an 8th gen model too (8250U, slightly lower end than yours). Impulsive ebay purchases sometimes pay off.

    My work just phased those out but they are great little machines. They will last a long time and I don't think anyone would do wrong by picking one up for just casual everyday use

    I have the Dell Latitude 7290 which is the 12 inch variant. It also has the 8th gen intel. I bought it used a couple of years ago and it has served me as a daily driver up until this past month. The Dell Latitude lines can be a bargain if you catch them after schools or businesses sell them off. They are comparable to the Lenovo Thinkpads and are built very rugged and are usually a bit cheaper. They can game reasonably well with the integrated HD graphics, especially emulation. Good video.

      😄 There was some ChairDesk action! Busted it out for the laptop breakdown. It was just zoomed in a good bit, so didn't get to see it in its complete magnificence!

    2:03 I have one of those with a 1st gen i5 in it. They've been making laptops in that class for a LONG time. Note of caution if you take yours apart. There are two sizes of screws, make sure you keep track of which screw went where, if you don't you could cause a short.

    Good find. I went the HP route for $125, but it is very similar to what you have. I had to watch out for the variants that did not have a 1080p screen. Also, I thought that I probably won't use Win 11 because of the amount of personal data collected. I definitely won't now because of no Clippy 📎

    • @kamnyechukwuekene
      @kamnyechukwuekene 7 місяців тому

      The only problem with the hp route is the repairability. Its easier for me to open up a dell latitude then a hp laptop wich are built so thin and fragile. Sometimes makes you think these hps are not meant to be opened.

      @@johnathanjamesjohnsonjr7408 😄 I don't think it was stupid. I was taken aback by the SIM card slot as well. It's not very often that I see them on laptops. And I didn't even really know about it til after I found it making the video and was curious. As far as why they covered it the way they did, absolutely no idea. Cover wasn't designed to pop out, and no markings or anything. Almost makes me wonder if maybe it's not active or something, which would seem silly that it's on the board but they don't bother to set it up. Who knows though. I'll have to give it a test sometime and see if it is functional.

    when you want to do a low buck homelab running many laptops - even laptops with pool noodle broken screens can be good buys and low tco, good chairdesk roi #clippy stockholm syndrome
    nvme is more than a nice option - with virtual price parity if you have the option always go with nvme over sata ssd - nvme is generally 2-10x faster with r/w io - thay may be one of the lone bright spots on the nadir of the broad pc depression which has been aided and abetted by mining, covid and monopolies and a general lack of innovation since moore's law is slowing down and could be eol in the next decade - chips and fabs are expensive but pc and severs are not the wealth destroyers that new vehicles are - we can have some degree of quantum solace in that, also dual ha chairdesk seems to be an outlier as well - ymmv
