Ordered a refurbished one with i5 8350u, 8gb of ram and 256gb drive today for $213.66. Too good a deal to pass up. Good seeing how one comes apart as may add more ram.
I got this 4 days ago. Paid 240$ for it and got it with i5-8350U, 16GB RAM and 512GB NVMe. I can run illustrator, indesign, photoshop, adobe XD, and have multiple windows and tabs on Chrome simultaneously, and it's still fast and responsive. The battery life and all the ports are amazing, especially at this price I'm at 99% and it says 13 hours left. For a 14", the 1080P looks so good as well, the colors are accurate. The only downside for me, which are just minor inconveniences tbh is that the screen doesn't get as bright as the costlier laptops so working outside on a sunny day isn't much of an option and mine came with a Japanese keyboard, it's gonna take some getting used to with the extra keys and a tiny backspace button.
Hi! Hope you're doing well! In the part where you showcase the hard drive bay, you mentioned an adapter for a 2.5" hd, ¿Where can I find one of those? Excelent video! Thanks
I have a question, and it’s been hard to find out the answer before I go out and buy one! I see there’s blue lettering for the “number pad” keys. Does that work with a single key combo press with the fn key? For example, can I just press fn+J to enter Numpad 1, or do I need to press fn+numlock to enable the numpad, followed by J, then fn+numlock to disable it again? Thanks for this video. You answered my other burning question-good to know it has a full-sized SD card so I can leave one in there for some extra storage.
how are you congratulations for your video I have a question, I have a latitude 5480 computer which has an intermittent failure with the video, the processor is i5-6300u I could change the motherboard for an i5-8350u it will be compatible with the chassis in advance many thanks for your attention
I just ordered one of these from Amazon and was hoping to add a 1TB SSD along the M2 drive. Did you say it won't accept a 2.5 drive without some sort of adapter??
@@MikeDancy Thanks for your reply Mike! It is just a regular 'ol SATA cable, or a special adapter? It should be arriving this week, so I'd love to have everything ready to go!
it's a sweet machine but the way that processors work is that the 2nd number (8-4-00) is what really tells you how powerful it is. A higher 2nd number means a better processor usually.
V helpful and much appreciated, Mike. Bgt 1 2 days ago ( i5-8250 16 Gb RAM) much the same as above. My problem is that replacing windows with Ubuntu or POP has become a struggle as the UEFI insists on secure boot to windows. I'm yet to find a way to disable the secure boot in windows which does not acknowledge or recognize it, nor on the BIOS which does not give me the option to do so. Is there another way to load my favorite OS from a bootable USB drive ? Thanks in advance. Best regards, Drew Reply
You should be able to disable secure boot from the bios. On my Acer one laptop, I had to create a supervisor password in order to gain access to be able to disable secure boot. Maybe try that? (you can set the bios back to no supervisor password after you are done)

@@MikeDancy the Dutch royal airlines
I had no idea that they made motorcycles and had a airplane company.

Nice review old man

You can replace the keyboard out. Or get a sticker pack for it
@@MikeDancy sticker is actually a really smart idea I didn't know about, thank you very much Sir
Can it charge via the USB C port?
@@shbmsrto yes it absolutely can. In fact that’s what I use.

I think you press fn + J to use it once. It’s not something I’ve really thought about but now I have to figure it out. Lol thanks

Great review mate, how do you find the screen?
it's nice. My wife uses it. She prefers my MacBook Air display though

Yes, it needed a SATA cable to add the 2.5”

can you plug another ssd in unused wwan slot? Like in lenovo t470 for instance.
I haven't checked. I might be able to look at it again but I'd have to steal it away from someone for awhile :)
Is it 64 bit
What do you think about same device with 8400H processor

Normal heating in this laptop is normal under fan pls sir reply
what is ploblem if this series gets access heat
Might need to be cleaned or make sure it’s not sitting on a pillow or your lap. It needs ventilation
@@MikeDancy i am using on laptop stand
can i use two ssd at same time or any port for one hdd or one ssd?
I’m not sure. I never tried.
Yeh u can use the wwan port for 2242 and 2280 for SSD slot.
whats the purpose of slim slot...???
To add data connectivity while travelling. This is before Apple and iPhone made pairing normal on laptops
Do you think it can take the windows 11
Yes it can. I have it
Yup. It can run it
Does that Dell Latitude 5490 have an SSD card?
It has two options for a SSD. Both a M2 and room for a 2.5”
is this better than Thinkpad T 480/T580 ?
Nope. Not even close n
