Positions of Flexion Two Bar Triceps Giant Set

  • This is a killer bodyweight giant set for the triceps.
    The setup is two bars with 25 lb bumper plates set on the ends, not loaded on the other ends. Those ends are braced up against the bottom of my rack (this can be literally anything solid, though, not necessarily a rack).
    Set your hands on top of the plates and do bodyweight tricep extensions. You can adjust the difficulty by how far or how close your set your feet.
    This is the overhead stretch position for the triceps.
    Once you hit near failure, then move right into the mid-range exercise...close grip push-ups done on the fat ends of the bars.
    The neutral grip on the bars is easy on the shoulders.
    Pretty normal here... rep out until you approach failure.
    Now we get into a bit of weird one.
    This is a landmine kickback that focuses ONLY on the peak contracted position of the triceps (arms fully extended as high up as possible).
    You get almost ZERO tension on the triceps until you get to that full lockout position but when you DO get to that position, it's FIRE on the triceps, especially after you've done the other two exercises to really maximize fiber activation.
    At that point, because of the strategy of the exercise order, you won't need to have tension on the triceps other than at that peak contraction.
    Quick note, as you shift your body forward, you'll need to separate the bars a bit so that the plates don't contact your midsection and stop you from shifting forward.
    This is a simple one for lighting up the triceps...definitely more appropriate for a home gym as it uses two bars, but it could be done a regular gym as long as you're not hogging equipment.

    Different. Variety is good but sometimes the basic movements are best.

      yep, agreed. When you look at each movement in this set, they're all basic tricep actions (overhead extension, press, peak contraction extension)...just done in a bit different way.
