    most things this guy does is planned out and things are bought specifically for the project... I mean who just happens to have the perfect size motor clamps and arbors and screws just laying in a box of stuff..... but he gets an A for creativity.

    Very clever design, however I would personally add a skin of steel over the PVC. A couple of layers of 0.8mm steel could easily be cut, bent and bolted to the outside of the existing structure, so in the event that the blade, motor mounts or PVC fails, your hands are at no risk. You can source such steel from old computer cases, old microwave oven covers, etc. Even a few layers of canned food tins would work.

    Those protruding screws in the flat side are surely a problem. Better to use countersunk screws.
