Great review. Minor correction, "Lexus shied away from touchscreens for a long time" - they actually had touchscreens before all of the competitors. The previous generation LS had a touchscreen. The 2006 IS and 2004 GS had touchscreens. But the Germans avoided touchscreens because of fingerprints, so Lexus followed suit. Now they've finally come back around again!
@@chasingcars Sedans these days are very low slung. Look at the ES and Genesis G80. Not great for side impact protection. Even the S class and A8 active suspension lift won't do much to enhance crash compatibility especially against tall SUVs. The GV70 2.5T with luxury pack is on my future shopping list. Great review BTW on the GV70 3.5
It definitely is! I reviewed it against the 740Li and was so disappointed with the build quality! It was 6 months old and the safety systems weren't even working! I made a video of it feel free to check it out!
The next test you do of a 'luxury' vehicle please take it over the same road as I thought there was a lot of tyre thump intruding into the cabin as you crossed the joining strips. I would like to see how others react to those bumps.
@@73willyg Cars define owners. This owner will probably have a high IQ, be successful and not spend all night talking about home renovation, fishing, footy, babies or the usual mind numbing bogan detritus.
I agree! Anyway, some major US manufacturers have killed all or several of their sedans. I think Lincoln doesn't offer any sedan since a short time now!
If you judge someone by the style of car they drive, and you think it makes you some enlightened conversationalist, you're probably not getting invited anywhere to talk to these "plonkers" anyway.
Looking into the power plant, this is the same power setup used back in 2007/8 GS performance hybrids. the gs were producing 254 KW total power, which is 10kw less than this car. Brilliant engines, reliable to the toth but I still believe LS must have a V8
2 main reasons... 1. the Aussie dollar sucks compared to the USD.. the exchange rate AUD-USD is 0.74. Reason 2: Our gvt in Australia rapes us with taxes. In addition to the RRP of the vehicle when you add the costs off all the extra options you ordered eg metallic paint, bigger rims etc there is also a dealer delivery charge which can be anywhere from $1500 - $8000 depending on the vehicle and is at the total discretion of the car dealership selling you the car. A further 10% Goods and Services Tax (GST) is applied and this is the vehicles base value excluding further government charges. These include Stamp Duty which is an additional 3-5% charge, and the notorious Luxury Car Tax which is an additional charge of 33% on top of any value exceeding the LCT threshold which is set pretty low, last time i checked it was around $68,000. Finally there are smaller charges involving Registration and CTP. In your example above, $110,000 USD = approx $150,000 AUD (110,000/0.74). Lets say dealer deliver for a car like this around $5000 so thats $155,000. GST of 10% = $15,500 (155K x 0.1) so your new costs are now $170,500. Now calculate the Luxury Car Tax which is on the base value of the car including GST being $170,500K, so any amount above the threshold of $68,000 is taxable an additional 33%. In this case this is equal to $33,825 ((170,500 - 68,000) x 0.33)). Add this to your other costs and you get $204,325 AUD (33,825 + 170,500). Thats why you wont see many LS, S class A8 or 7 series on the streets in Australia.
$200K for any car sounds crazy but the way this works is director/middle management leases this car under the business name then it goes back to Lexus after 4 years. The depreciation is written off and they end up paying next to nothing for those 4 years of ownership. This is also how fleet leasing works with big companies that have large fleets of vehicles.
Hey mate, cool to see you're here too 😂 I know you've watched my videos but I thought to mention the bass is insane and still has clarity so you can still here the trebles and mids as well! Something like a Range Rover can go deep but becomes quite distorted and loses clarity whereas the Lexus won't because it will not sacrifice the full range of sound. See you on the next one mate 😊
@@chasingcars nobody sales their stereo or speakers with the slogan “clear and crisp”. When is the last time you saw a button on a stereo or even a boom box that said “clear and crisp”?
