I've been living in Japan for the past 25 years and my Japanese writing went out the window a very long time ago! I have decided to watch every single video starting with this one, throughout 2025, with a view to improving my writing and reading in Japanese. I'm okay speaking, but definitely need a good refresher on reading and writing!
Thank you so much for this video. The agonizing 30 minutes of writing a grid with the characters in it over the course of the past 2 days was well worth it. Towards the end I was able to write the characters over twice as fast as when I started. Now I have 3 pages of Hiragana written along with it’s sound to study. ❤
お and を broke my brain, its also very interesting to see the differences from handwriting to what i've been learning so far on duolingo. Great video, thank you!
Thanks for your video sir, it really help out on my journey to conquer Japanese. At first, I was thinking this video gonna help nothing but now, I cant pretty much write and recognize 90% Hiragana words. Thanks so much sir .
thank you sensei, learning with you is very easy and relaxing, a big hug from Spain I am preparing my trip to Japan for next spring. A cordial greeting
Thank you for always watching my videos! First, I recommend learning hiragana and katakana, then moving on to vocabulary and grammar. Once you understand basic words, gradually start learning kanji. On my channel, there is a playlist for N5 kanji. Please take a look at those videos. Even if you don't understand at first, through consistent and repeated study, I believe your understanding will deepen gradually, and your Japanese proficiency will improve.
@@LearnJapaneseChannel Thank you sensei, for your tips. I have a keen interest in Japanese culture and language l hope your videos will help me. Can you tell that in day to day conversations, Japanese people use which script.

That system is used for writing any regular Japanese words, in comparison to Kanji. Every hiragana character has a certain sound, but does not have a meaning by itself.

Here begins my journey🎉
Real talk: in 5 days, I managed to clock the Hiragana-hyo thanks to this lesson. 100% back this video.
What I did:
Day One: Row 1
1. Write the first character 100 times (repeat for next character)
2. Say aloud each time I write the character
3. After writing and saying aloud each character 100 times, I then attempt to write each character in order (20 times) without looking at the previous characters if possible.
Day Two: Rows 2 & 3
1. Revise yesterday’s work as desired
2. Same exercise as Day 1 but for Rows 2 & 3 instead
Day Three: Rows 4 & 5
1. Revise Rows 1-3 as desired
2. Same exercise as Day 1 but for Rows 4 & 5 instead
Day Four: All remaining Rows (2-3 hours)
1. Revise yesterday’s work
2. Same exercise as Day 1 but with all remaining characters up to ‘ん’
3. After ‘ん’, we’re reintroducing existing characters with a slight addition to its character AND pronunciation (か becomes が). Instead of writing these new characters 100 times, I only practice the character 20 times.
Day Five: All out Revision
1. Practice the standard table 20x (from あto ん) checking any errors I between each take.
2. Download ‘AnkiApp’ to utilise the flashcard. I don’t have a せんさい(teacher), so unfortunately I don’t have an external character randomiser to have me identify any/all characters. AnkiApp’s free version can achieve this with the use of flash cards.
Days 6 & 7
1. Similar to ‘Step 1’ above but 10x
2. AnkiApp: Review 100x minimum
I can truly say that I feel like the top student in my class (even though I’m the only student 😂), but for me to learn Hiragana in a week because of this video is crazy. Thank you so much for this video!
