Worst Skincare Mistakes My Patients Make
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 чер 2024
- I see patients making the same mistakes with their skin care over and over. Today I decided to pull together a list of the most common skincare mistakes I see from them, covering a wide range of dermatological issues. We discuss things like popping pimples, charcoal masks, skincare trends, hydration, moisturizer, shaving, alcohol based products, sweat, pore health, sunscreen and SPF, exfoliating scrubs, and so much more. Have you made any of these skin care mistakes, or maybe you’ve found a treatment plan that works right for you? Let me know in the comments!
I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

I can attest to the hot shower part. Once I started taking more cold showers, I noticed a lot of improvement in my skin.
That and not drying my face with anything after washing it.... not a towel, dedicated face cloth etc. I just air dry and my face texture has remained very smooth ever since.
wait, really? does air drying your face work really well? i have never heard of that before! please tell me of your experience, i have sensitive skin and this might really help me with texture
@@kated.2785 I've been air drying for about 5ish years now, but I noticed the effect literally in the first 2 weeks.
@@kechiwam oh, wow! thank you so much for the tip. i tried it today and my skin feels less irritated!
Air drying sounds pretty good but I can't leave my face wet for long so I just dab my face with a towel to absorb all the water/wetness. No rubbing
Same here. I have been air drying my face and hair for years now. Best long-term decision I ever made.
I've had cystic acne along my chin and just under my nose that didn't clear up (almost) completely until menopause. I was looking through some old pictures recently and realized I've had the same exact same zit showing up in the same exact place in various states of inflammation ... FOR YEARS. I think whenever I did squeeze it - I did exercise some restraint over the years- it pushed some of that sebum gunk down deeper into the follicle, and that's what kept resurfacing every few months. Upon this realization, instead of squeezing, I doused it with salicylic acid a couple times a day for 2-3 months until the bump finally receded. Finally it's healed for good. Longest zit ever.
I've been trying to convince my husband that he needs to stop messing with his skin. When he was a teenager, his mother taught him how to "care for" his acne prone skin, by lancing or popping the zit, then following up with hydrogen peroxide. Since his mother was the one who taught him this, and because he's been doing it this long, nothing I say will convince him that he's actually harming his skin.
I swear, it's like an obsession with him. When I have a zit, he desperately tries to convince me to pop it. It's like it physically pains him to see a zit that is unmaimed. And yes, if you're wondering, he has many acne scars.
I had also been trying to get him to stop splashing hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol on everything. We have clean, running water and soap. But I've given up on that one. I figure it isn't ideal, but at least he isn't really harming anything with that.
@@laurao3274 I've had clear skin before meeting my boyfriend of 4 years. since i got with him and adopted his zit squeezing habits my skin's been a mess!

From experience: if it's really hard for you to stop picking at your skin/popping pimples because it's a nervous habit, go see if there's an underlying mental condition like OCD or anxiety. And the first time I put it on... it BURNED! LIKE HELL!! It just hurt so much that I had to take it off right away.

I remember going to a skin specialist because of my constant acne outbreaks that were really bad for my age and getting antibiotics for it. We asked what products I should use and since my skin was suuuuper oily bc I used moisturizer daily on my whole face he told me to not use it. At all. @@Susirajantakaa Which means that you should figure out what type of skin you have and then research brands that make products that are designed for your skin texture and needs. Instead of just buying whatever Dr Mike tells you to buy because it works for him. Trying out different products to find one suitable for you is only useful when you do research before hand to know what you need and what brands sell a product with ingredients proven to help with your skin type. Just randomly buying stuff to try it and see if it works will statistically speaking almost never lead to the exact right product for you. its so hard not to pick skin, as someone with OCD. despite most people associating OCD with the "movie trope" of keeping things in straight lines, that's not a common form of it. its obsessive compulsive behaviors without reason - this includes nailbiting, strict adhering to a self-set schedule that causes GREAT STRESS if broken, ect. as a result i'm largely declawed because its SO difficult for me to get my nails to grow. five minutes of not paying attention can remove months of effort and nothing really seems to help. It sucks :/ I envy those that take pleasure in fidget toys and the like as those ARE one of those things that can reduce the behavior in some people ( as its essentially as doc here says, keeping the hands busy )

Dr. Mike: Ideally, your showers should be on the shorter side.
* Long haired people have left the chat 😂

well, you don't need to wash your hair everyday. I wash mine once a week, and my showers in between are short in consequence.
@@valerianaranjocruz25 It depends on your lifestyle and hair type. I workout/run everyday, so there is no way I would go a day w/o washing due to the sweat, dust, dirt, and grime. Hence the longer showers. I've also asked multiple hairdressers if I should consider washing less, and they've all told me that my hair is really healthy so keeping my current routine would be fine.

Mike: Long, hot showers are bad for your skin
Me: Listen man, it's either my metal health or my skin, your choice
edit: wow thanks for all the likes
Speak to em 🤩
Exactly! That's why we have lotion.

I was happy I did a lot of these things right! I actually carry a parasol on sunny days in addition to SPF, and I use my serums and moisturizers all the way down to my decolletage. But I was so sad about the hot showers; I have OCD and I have to take two or three baths (not showers) a day and I like my water HOT.

Thanks doc.
"Looking down at your phone isn't good for your neck!"

Doctor Mike should do a video with his nephews about guessing feminine products
Yesssss
yeahhhhhh
That would be 🤩
Yes
yes HAHA
It's crazy because I once saw Murad products ad when I was sitting in elementary school (now I'm a college student)! And now, when I see dr mike promoting it means the products are legit! 🤯
Could you make a video about how to find a good skincare routine?
I love how he says I have acne prone skin and his skin is flawless and there is only a single red dot on his neck that is hardly noticeable.
Well he did say that he found a good product that helped for him, so maybe it was worse before?
Remember: makeup and editing abound on the internet!

"They should just use the right product for the-". I guess he cut it short lol
"I have acne prone skin"
- points to one tiny spot whilst entire face is perfect
Yep imma believe any skincare recommendations from you Doc because it obviously works 😂
I'd believe it more if it wasn't a paid ad 🤣
Plot twist: its everywhere except the face now
TV grade make-up will do that
He also uses makeup and editing, his face is a major part of his brand
That close up not only showed where on his neck he has a break out, but also showed some of his face that has a minor skin issue.
"7. Keeping small cuts and wounds covered" - this is confusing: all the other titles are phrased to be the "bad" thing, and this one sounds like it's the reverse?
Even then, not sure this one is true.
Same
If the wound isn't serious, you shouldn't cover it. My family is full of doctors and they always repeat "you are going to 'parboil' the wound. If it isn't serious, too exposed, or you can keep it clean, don't cover it." The healing process is faster since you are letting your skin "breathe" (what is explained in the video is quite accurate).
The problem was the title, in the sequence, not the advice given. 😊
My daily dose of Doctor mike
I actually am eczema prune, this helped. Thanks mike
Dr. Mike: “don’t use a product just because a celebrity says it’s good”
Also Dr. Mike: *is a celebrity spending half of the video advertising for Murad*
I was about to say the same thing
I had a plastic surgeon recommend massaging in baby oil then moisturizer for a couple of nasty scars I had. Worked well - but I live in Australia - doctors aren't driven as much by the pharmaceutical industry....
I really think it is an ad by the way it's been mentioned but he didn't mention that it's an ad, I don't know if Dr. Mike is just doing some very strange unsponsored product placement or if he's illegally not declaring the advertisement...

My skin: Bold of you to assume I'll play along...
Can't believe I just made the connection between my many scars and my tendency to just leave a wound uncovered until it gets better
To the hot shower one, I tend to take like.. 20-30 minute shower with water that's borderline painful burning. It's so nice!
Everything was supposed to be mistakes but then one of them is “keeping small cuts covered” which you say is what we should do, so it threw me off
Yup. I was confused too.🤷🏽♀️
Well he said small cuts covered and dry is a mistake but keeping it covered and moist is the right way
That's because it was sponsored despite him not saying so
@@geoffmcclelland2663 sponsored by what 😂😂 he didn't mention any products.

I made the mistake of treating my skin as if it’s “not sensitive” just bc I never felt much irritation but I think we should all treat our skin gently no matter what our skin type is
I just recently started taking skincare seriously and love learning about the benefits of things like SPF, retinol and hydrating acids like hyaluronic and salicylic acids. However, having KP makes it so hard not to always be picking at my skin, or nicking it when shaving even when hardly applying pressure 🙈🙈
I fell your pain
KP?
Thanks you just got me a little bit nervous taking hot/warm shower 😟
