What if your story has aspects of several themes? Ie a story about love that also includes immigration and overcoming poverty? I understand I would focus on one, but should the other universal themes be mentioned in the pitch?
If this is for a query letter, you want it to be as CLEAR as possible, in as few words as possible, where the book sits in the marketplace. So including all sorts of different themes, topics, ideas (rather than making it clear which one is the STORY focus) wouldn't help to do that. A synopsis can be longer and include a bit more detail, but still needs to be crystal clear.
