Love the crop top! Couple tips for curvy girls who want to do this:
- mark your sides as well as center front. If you have someone to help, mark your back as well. You're probably going to cut the back shorter than the front.
- cut the front on a downward curve, and the back on an upward curve. The apexes are at the center front and center back, and they meet at the sides.
- give yourself an extra couple inches when cutting. Don't know why, but my underbust always ends up eating fabric on shorter shirts.
These are amazing tips! Thank you so much for sharing 🧡
Thanks so much for sharing! Underbust 'eating' the fabric is indeed common for us busty ladies :)
The dotty dress would look lovely with a skinny belt. In black, or a contrasting red.
They both turned out super cute! I love the dress the most, it's more my style! ❤❤❤
The polka dot dress is brilliant! The crop top is cute, but the uneven button arrangement is a little aggravating to my OCD eyes! Cute colors, very becoming.
The second dress is amazing. When you cut it in half I thought..."Oh No." It turned out really cute. I love what you've done. Such good ideas. Thanks so much. I love this vlog episode!!
Your expression when you shirred the sleeves! "Cute!!!" 😍
The dress hack is amazing! Your creative vision to see how you would change it from a night-gown to a summer day dress is mind-bending.
Aww thanks lovely! I’m soo happy with my new dress 😍🧡
I am so inspired to try buying second-hand clothes (maybe from my closet?) to up-cycle! It's just as creative, if not more so, as sewing from scratch. I absolutely love how you redesigned the polka-dot dress!
Thank you! I’m really happy with how it turned out 😍 And you are so right, up-cycling uses so many different techniques and is often more challenging then sewing from scratch 🧡

If you are in the US you can try thredUP for online thrifting. Poshmark has some cheap deals if you look hard enough
@@StarlingofAzerath Thank you, that's a great idea! I think I'll try that!😀
I love this so much! I see a lot of thrift flips that just take really large items and simply use the fabric to make an entirely different piece. While I still really like those flips, I really love to see you trying to use all the fabric in the original piece and keeping its general shape! I think 1) its good for reducing waste and 2) keeps the original details!
You’re just the sweetest! I loved them both but the dress is AMAZING. You made it look so quick and easy. Thanks for the inspo!
Aw thanks Sonia! You’re too kind!! I’m so happy with my new dress 😍
Due to COVID, we cannot use dressing rooms in the stores. I bought a thrifted skirt and realized it was too large. You have given me the encouragement I needed to remake it smaller and my sewing skills are pretty limited! Thank you Janelle!
I’m so glad you found some inspiration from the video! All the best with your own thrift flips 🧡
The white and black dress is my fav thrift flip ever. Love the pattern and the dress is so complimentary to your shape and style now!!
Thank you! I’m soo happy with it 🧡🧡
I loved watching the way you transformed the boring two items of clothing into something that’s totally wearable now x
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the video 😊🧡
Great. video. I have shared it with my niece who is just starting to have an interest in sewing. I saw the snow in Tassie this week on TV. it looked so magical. I hope you had a chance to experience it. 🌺
Thank you lovely! Yes it did snow at my place, and it was sooo magical! 😍
In love with your thrift flip projects, look very easy to make. I would also add pockets to the dress to make ir even more perfect 😍
Your videos are my fave thing to have on in the background while I am sewing!! I never thought I’d be patient enough to be a sewer, but practice and watching your channel has really grown my own sewing confidence as I understand more now how garments go together. 😁😁
This is so lovely to hear! Thanks so much for watching 🧡 x
I love the polka dotted dress!!! It is soooooo pretty!!!!!
The after of the dot is soooo adorable.
You make it look so easy. I thought the rust coloured dress looked lovely on you before the adjustments too. The transformation of the spotty dress was my favourite though. Thanks for sharing. X
I love watching and learning from you… you are clever beautiful and modest… thank you so much…
Both items turned out so cute. I really LOVE the dress! What a transformation!
Thank you lovely! I’m soo happy with it! 😍
You can sew on button with your machine pretty easily by choosing the right stitch length and zigzag stitch with no going forward. For me, it was an amazing find.
Ooh this sounds soo scary (what if the needle hits the button!?), but I’m so keen to try! Sounds like it would save so much time!
And if you want the button to be looser, you can try to put a pinning needle between the two holes to make it bigger, idk how to explain...
This is epic!! I have a few pieces that I don’t quite love and I’ve never thought of shirring the sleeves! Genius
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it/got some inspo 😄🧡
Can't to wait to go to the op shop. Love the dotty dress, I will definately be up cycling, you are so inspiring Janelle !
thrifting, up-cycling, sewing your own clothes...all ways to avoid benefiting the fast fashion industry! AND you save money.
Totally! And way more satisfying 😍
I love how you transformed those two pieces! Especially the dress: such a small change, yet made all the difference. I'm thinking of trying something like that with an oversized top to turn it into a tunic! Thanks for the inspo and I hope this is the first of a series
Aw thanks lovely! You’re welcome 🧡 I’m glad you enjoyed the video, and all the best with your own thrift flip x
Hi Janelle,
Great thrift flips!
Mary
Glad you enjoyed them! 🧡
You’ve timed this perfectly Janelle for the tines we’re living through, sustainability and thrifting. I’m finding I’m turning away from other you tubers because looking at new shopping hauls doesn’t seem a priority any more. 💕
I feel exactly the same Anne! x
Awesome! I love how cute they turned out. Also this is useful when you increase or decrease weight and you have a nice dress sitting sad in the wardrobe. Thanks xx
So true! Thank you lovely, I’m glad you enjoyed the video 🧡
The black and white dress turned out so beautifully! Great job!
You are so clever love the new outfits 💖
Thank you! I’m soo happy with them 😍
I just wanted to say that you are adorable Janelle, I love watching your videos and I am doing so much more sewing because of you. 💖
That’s so lovely to hear! Thank you 🧡
That dress is just the summer style I love. Q - Will you ever up-style a dress from a MEN'S SHIRT? So many fabulous fabrics in men's.
What wonderful thrift flips! Great job, Janelle!
Thank you so much 🧡
It's so inspiring watching your videos. Thank you, Janelle!! I love the crop top!! 😍 Did you create a skirt with the rest of the fabric? For the dress, I would have probably added a cloth belt with a ribbon on the hips. 😊
Thank you so much for this fab video. I’ve learnt so many new skills. Especially the button hole trick. The spotty dress is beautiful 🤍🖤
I am JUST starting my own thrifting channel with flips, favorites, etc!!! I might have to use this for inspiration!!! Awesome job!!
It also helps to mark the center front and center back on each piece, before you start pulling up the gathering, to help balance the gathers.
L O V E how both of these turned out! Genius 🧡🧡
Thank you! 🧡
I legit bought this exact spotty patterned dress a few weeks ago at an opshop and this is giving me some majorly good inspo of what to do with it 😍
Ooh have fun fixing it up 😊
Great job! I would love to see more videos like this.
Yay I’m glad you enjoyed it! I will definitely be making more videos like this in the future 🧡
You should make a shirt that says "right sides together" haha
That would be adorable!!!
I’d buy it. I constantly say it over and over when I sew 😂
Great idea
Omg that would be sew cute! 😂😉
And at the back a sad little French seam saying "nobody likes me"? :D
You could really level things up with edging necklines or other areas with velvet ribbon
We love shirring!!! It’s a life saver! 💗😊
I love thrift flips! The second dress’ print reminded me of your ironing board cover 😄
Haha totally!! 😄
Fabulous transformations, loving the dress
Love this!! Can you make a more detailed video on making buttonholes manually? I've always been a bit intimidated by them, so I have yet to attempt them.
Thank you! Yes, I plan to make a video on how I make buttonholes soon 😊
I love what you did with the black and white dress
Love how the dress turned out!
Those are gorgeous 🌺
Great flipping!!!!!!! WOW,WOW!!!!!!!
They both turned out so cute!
Thank you! 🧡
Love the dress!!! Great job!
So lovely! And great finds as well
They were such great finds! Thanks so much lovely 🧡
I feel like the leftover of the first garment could easily be used for another project. Like sleeves or even an over layer for a skirt.
Yes I already have plans for it 😍
@@RoseryApparel oh yay!!! I so look forward to seeing what you do with it!
Loved the dress, looks perfect now. X
The dress would also look good with a narrow, brightly colored belt : ) The color would really pop.
I use mid liners as well💛 you should pick up the grey💛💛💛💛 game changer when it comes to marking fabrics💛
Ooh thanks for the tip!
I’ve been looking forward to this all week! Great video as always, and some new tips I can remember for next time I buy some thrifted dresses! 😊👍🏻 the spotty dress turned out so cute! And I agree, it’s so nice when you actually get to use all of the fabric! I have so many scraps from past projects, I’m thinking of actually cutting them all into strips and crocheting a rag rug with them? I need something to use them all up 😅
Aw thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the video 😊🧡
This was so fun to watch! I looove thrifting so I need to try a thrift flip!
Love the dress and the top is so cute
You always share very precious tricks thank you so much ma'am.
So cute!! I wish Czech Republic had such cute items in ts thrift stores, but honestly everything you find here looks ready for the bin. :(
I love these ideas. So often I see people up-cycling their thrift finds, but instead of making them cute and modest, they end up cutting off too much fabric and the end result is, more often than not, making their up-cycle look cheap. They show too much skin. I appreciate your style and modesty.
I'm so glad I found your channel - I really like your cord skirt BTW. I can't sew for nuts but I really want to start 'upcyling' my op-shop finds (once they reopen!)
Aw thank you so much! I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying my videos 🧡
The red dress is so good and you may make a matching set
So cute! You are so talented!!
I love this I hope it’s a new series!!!!!
For sure!! I enjoyed making this video so much 😄
Love the dress💕
this is so inspiring and awesome!
Thank you! I’m glad you found it inspiring 😊
Very nice transformation 👍
I never know what to say when I'm early but I love your channel!
I wonder what it would look like if you shirred the waist line. I shirred my first 2 shirts this weekend and I’m in love with it!
Shirring is the best!
Great video. It looks like the 'zara' dress from last summer, i paid £40 for it. I like your sheering hack, i will try that xx
That’s exactly what I thought! Love that dress, and was glad to recreate something similar 😍 x
They have both turned out great. What a great way to give old pieces a new lease of life! I'm looking at upcycling some of my old clothes now. Thanks for sharing! xoxo
Great video as always, Janelle! Today I found a few pieces of fabric at the flea market, and one of them is so you! It’a nice mix of berry/rust color and I think it will be perfect for Fall (I’m in Canada)! 🤗 I’m curious to know what you will make of the leftover fabric of the rust dress... Scrunchies? Or a new video for scrap projects? Love these!
Thank you! Ooh that fabric sounds divine 😍 I’m thinking using it for my next batch of scrunchies, yes!
omg the shirring sleeves are so cute! Great job!
Love a shirred sleeve 😍
Love the dress!!😍😍👌🏻
Thank you so much for this. You are a real inspiration!
Thank you! You’re so welcome 🧡
This is exacly what i was searchung for, aiming at shortening one of my blouses. im a bit confused you didnt measure anything before cutting, and neither when ironing the hem?amazing job with the dress my jaw dropped!
For the first piece to utilize the button holes that were already there you could have just taken the front two pieces off, moved it up and cut a new two pieces with the neck line higher up. Sewn the pieces back together and then cropped the bottom. Then the button placing would have been even & there wouldn't be any tugging in the bust line to try and force a V shaped neckline inwards.
Love your style 😍
Love them both! But I especially wish I could have the dress 😅
I’m in love with it!! 😍
So cute! I especially love the dress. I’m larger-chested so feel I need a more defined waist so I have a figure. ☹️ (Read: I’m a little jealous.) 😁
I would suggest adding 2 more buttons onto the sweater to make it look more symmetrical. But it’s cute anyway. ☺️❤️
Idea: have someone shop for you and try to do something with those pieces!
Thanks for sharing!
Fun to see. Thanks!
Can you please design a pattern for the spotty dress, It’s absolutely gorgeous🥰
Ooh I might have to add it to the list! 😍
With pockets! I love this design.
Great job, i think the dress can use a belt with it.
Love this idea!! 🤩
Lovely and perfect! 🇨🇦
Can't you make a tutorial about how to make your Rosa dress V-necked? Would love to be able to both change the sleeves and neckline up!
Love ur channel and all your clothes
Yes, I’m currently working on a video about this!! 😍
Amazing results! Do you have anything planned for the skirt scrap left over from the crop top?
Thank you 🧡 Yes I plan to make a batch of scrunchies from the left over fabric! I like to send them out with pattern orders (once I find some elastic to actually be able to make them) 😊
@@RoseryApparel elastic is the new toilet paper!😂
I wouldn't have made a crop top but a full length blouse with small side slits. As to the dress, it turned out quite cute but I would have taken out some white from my cabbage and created pockets.
The dress is lovely
Girl! You really know yourself- they both look like fabric you would've bought new.
Haha totally!! I’m always drawn to fabric first 😍
So Very NICE!!
Omg they are so pretty
Thanks so much! I’m so happy with them 🧡
I really like your channel i’ve learned so much from you thank you
That’s so great to hear! I’m so glad you enjoy my videos 😊🧡
So cute!!!
Thank you! 🧡
I love it💖 good luck
Love the dress 👏
