Drew, retired museum curator here. Consider a Fine Arts insurance policy on these valuable lighting fixtures. My museums worked with the Huntington Block agency with Cigna coverage. A fine arts agency is much more knowledgeable and aware of the issues that properly insuring objects like these entail than a standard homeowners insurance underwriter with scheduled items of particular value. Insurance is not just about premiums, but also about service.
Very good advice, he might want to contact the L.A. County Museum research department or the Los Angeles Historical Society as well, I would not be surprised if they don't already have some information about this house. The quality and expense of the fixtures in this house, the original owners might have had other fine art pieces (paintings and small sculptures0 that were donated to the museum.
Drew, you should contact the historical society to see if there are any pictures of the home in its original glory or any history on the original owner. It would be so interesting to learn more and I think all the Lone Fox family would love it.
I was thinking the same thing when he was talking about windows in the antiquing video! It would be so rad to see what was originally in place and what could be done in “homage” (if financially feasible)
Agreed. A video on the history of the home would be very interesting maybe you can go to the historical society or just to your area city County building that handles land and maybe find out who it owned it to begin with I’d be very interested in knowing the history of this house I’d also like to see a photo standing back and looking at it
Who the heck was the original owner of this house??? They collected such an amazing display of light fixtures and obviously put a lot of effort into searching out each one in particular! So glad they landed in the hands of someone who took the time to research not just their dollar value but their historical worth as well... Congratulations, Drew!
Sue, think so also! The previous owners must have loved this house, a home, and wanted to maintain the homes integrity for posterity, and to be remembered.
Is there anyway, in your design for your new home, to keep the lamps where they are, and work them into your master home design, maintaining the previous owners, and the history of this historic home? Is it possible to get your new home on the historic registry in California?
@@donnagoring250 If Drew would get it on the Historic Registry of California, he would probably face great restrictions on what he can and cannot do with the house. At least that is the way it is in my state. My brother and sister-in-law were going to purchase a historic home here, but when they researched what they could and could not do, they decided against it. They couldn't even paint the outside of the house what they wanted to.
You were meant to have this home because you surely know how to appreciate and care for things that are rare or antique. Congratulations again on your new home! So excited to see your own transformation on this gorgeous house!
It would be wonderful if you could do a video investigating more of the history of the home! Who built it and who lived here before you. It’s so fascinating the lives these spaces had before us!
Your guest was a great find in herself! She makes a topic that would normally be kind of dry very interesting. I'll definitely follow her as well. Congrats on discovering the value of those pieces. Even if they aren't all to your taste, what a cool surprise. It adds to the interest of the home itself, just wondering who the person was who collected all those pieces, their travels to do so, etc.

can't stop wondering how interesting it would be to talk to the owner who bought all those beautiful lights! also curious about the original decoration, the design was probably just as fancy and mesmerizing edit: guys I know this person is probably in other planes of existence, but still 💀 the point remains
I can’t really put into words how much I love this video. It’s the perfect blend of intense knowledge, aesthetic (even though I hate the word) and a deep appreciation of art and craftsmanship. The collab we never knew we needed until the moment it popped up. There is a saying that every country deserves its leader and in this case it translates into this house deserves you as its owner. Whatever you’ll do with this property, it will be magical and deserving of its origins.
Shout out to previous owners, who left everything intact. How cool! Drew, do you know how many previous owners there were? I'd be interested in knowing how many times this house changed hands.
That is incredible! The more Dr Lori described each fixture and the history, the more I fell in love with each one. Congratulations on such rare finds!
Maybe you can really lean in to the design style from which each fixture originates to help you love the fixtures you’re maybe unsure of. Your design taste I’m sure will take the spaces to the next level.
I am just shocked that through all the years with so many decor styles that these fixtures were left alone and never replaced. Curious as to how many owners have lived in the home.
@@joycedominguez1828 I like the previous owners without even knowing them. They understood that the light fixtures belonged with the house and kept it intact without separating everything for extra $.
I bet the owner was a European transplant or lover of European style and they lived in this house all their lives and then it transferred to a child. I've visited some elderly people (part of my job in Aged Care) who live in houses that haven't been updated since the 20s to 50s and many times it's an unmarried daughter or son who lived with their parents, looked after them when they aged, and inherited the house. Most of them don't feel the need or desire to remodel as it's comfortable to them, or feel it's an insult to the parents.
I love this and her expertise. I also love that you’re really taking the time to educate yourself on the history, features, style and architecture of the house.
Dr. Lori is so kind and eager to share her incredible knowledge-I love how graciously she went above and beyond to share her passions. Her pointing out the scrollwork on the beams absolutely endeared her to me. 🥰

WOW!!! Drew, you better get good, detailed photos of every single one of these and print them out and keep them in a safe place (safety deposit box) and then increase your home insurance to cover them all! Great video!
@@lonefox Drew, if you haven't already done so, if I were you I'd set up a home security system worthy of Fort Knox! And by that I mean of course cameras, motion detectors and lights that turn on automatically with motion, and really really REALLY secure door and window locks. You've got over $45,000 worth of easily movable and beautiful antiques in your home, and if I were you I'd lock those puppies down TIGHT!
SO GLAD you got ahold of Dr. Lori before you yanked any of those fixtures out! (I had an uneasy feeling that you didn't really realize what you had in some of them, but many were even higher than I imagined!!) Jeeze....add them all together and they're worth more than what I paid for my last house!!!) Dr. Lori's good, really knows her stuff. My advice to you would be kinda like that line out of The Godfather....(Remember? "Leave the gun....take the cannoli!") ...only here it would be don't stress about the bathroom tiles, because there's a lot of that in your area that's been reclaimed and is available. Those light fixtures are apparently original to the house and we're curated by someone with a very knowledgeable eye (and a fairly large pocketbook, I'd guess!) It might be interesting to dig into the ownership history of your new house. Maybe it once DID belong to a movie star who traveled a lot.....!(?)
Now I want to know who the original owners were. I wonder if it was a Hollywood exec’s house, because somebody evidently went to Europe to source lights for their new home. In 1929-30 (the stock market crashed and the Great Depression began in October 1929, for reference). I bet your house has some interesting history!
Yes, would be very interesting to know who the previous owners were. I think the title company can tell you who the previous owners are. If someone really famous, and historical significance, may be some property tax savings, if you preserve the history, for example. Dr. Lori gave you some clues-on someone Going to France to search for light fixtures. For my house, i was able to go all the way back to when the Spanish Missions owned my property as a vineyard.
I’d like to see how someone could come in and take each one down in a way that they would still be of value. And, then make it out. It’s a maze just going from one room to the next.
You know what would be amazing? If you toured it at night to let us see them all lit up! I'm sure they look stunning with light shining through them. Please please do it! My favorite is the one with the hanging garland. So pretty. Intricate without being ostentatious.
Loooooved the history art class here! Please please pleeeeeaaaaase I want to have more of these! There has to be more to learn from the beauty of your new home. I also LOVE that it's your house Drew, it's like you deserve to live there and enjoy the art within ♥️
The house got to the right person 🥰. Amazing how the value of the house is increased but also the art is more than just its value in money. I hope that Drew is able to keep those original details while being creative. ❤
WOW! You purchased a goldmine! Love it and Lori!!! Her favorite is also mine!!! It is a WINNER!!! Way to Go Drew!! I hope you keep all of them! Congratulations!!
I have never been a fan of antique sconces, but hearing this expert describe them, they really come alive and it makes me appreciate their beauty. Now, the two italian pendants with Murano glass. WOW. WOW. WOW. I visited Venice about 25 years ago and going to Murano was my favorite stop. Drew, if you can visit one day, make your way there to appreciate the craftmanship and what it takes to create that glass using techniques that have been passed down for centuries. You are so lucky to have these in your home. To me those are the two show-stoppers. I must have gone back to those sections of the video 3 to 4 times just to enjoy looking at them over and over. Congratulations on your new home and on acquiring these masterpieces!
I agree - I thought they were terrible at first bc they aren’t my taste at first glance - but then when you take the time to take a look, they look much better!! And at least I think he will find homes that will appreciate what he doesn’t keep.
I'm so very amazed that through the years that all of those gorgeous light fixtures were left intact, usually as new people move into a new place, they start removing everything new, getting rid of the old antiques! This house is overflowing with beauty! 👍🏼❤
The small French chandelier is my fave! The Bell Flower swag detail has been a part of interior design since the mid 1700. This detail was designed and introduced by Scottish architect and interior and furniture designer, Robert Adam. In addition to lighting, Bell Flower detail is found in plasterwork and furniture inlay.
I wish we could see how the house was originally decorated. Based on these fixtures, mostly imported, I imagine the original owners had some very bougie taste.
Go to your county Land Records, Drew! You can find plats, maps, deeds, original/previous owners, taxes, abatement, renovation info and more, there. The local newspapers might have more like photos or stories. Who knows, you might even be able to get onto the Historic Record...
I'm thinking most of the fixtures arrived much later than when the house was new. Some of chandeliers hang way too low / seem designed for higher ceilings. Reaching up and touching a chandelier, or banging your head on one - I don't think that would happen back then. And I can't believe that the Murano grapes chandelier would have originally hung so very close to the sconces - this looks like the result of a collector running out of space (been there, done that!).
They are all rare pieces, obviously the previous owners must have had an idea they were valuable. When you have something like this it’s character makes the home. They’re classic and timeless keep them. 24% lead crystal never find that manufactured today.
I sure hope you keep every single one of the light fixtures and admire them everyday for the artistry and originality You were blessed… don’t sellout your blessings…
I think when you first toured your home, your audience knew you won the light fixture lottery! They are simply amazing! I hope your empty home has exceptional security. I’m so excited for your journey & we’re all rooting you on as you share your experiences!
Drew, your new home is a mecca of artistic history. I was afraid that you were going to replace these beautiful light fixtures with something else. With your decorating sense, embrace these beautiful fixtures and make each room revolve around them. I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with in your future videos. This video was very educational for those of us who love antiques, art, and history.
I can't see him selling these light fixtures. Maybe 1 or 2. Most likely he'll switch them out to different rooms, keep any that don't fit with his vision for the space in some storage room like he had at his apartment
@@rneustel388 I was, too! He has a beautiful house and it would have been heartbreaking to see those fixtures go. He did the right thing by getting them appraised.
You are so lucky to have found that house w/ all these fixtures intact. They are are beautiful & amazing. Thank you for taking me along - I’m so excited about the renovation & w/ you will be doing❣️
Bravo, Drew, for getting these appraised and educating yourself on history, art periods, value, etc.! My worry has been you might throw precious babes out with the bathwater or just go nuts on cutting up period woodwork. I love that you are falling even deeper in love with your beautiful new home just be learning it's history and listening to it's whispers to you! Modernization is a delicate balance with preservation. You were blessed with an historic gem of a home...and have now become it's steward! Congratulations, Drew! 🙏🌐💞👑
I feel the same way as previous comments.. your love of beauty and very creative mind has rewarded you as a guardian of extraordinary beautiful antiques. Treat them well ❤️dear precious Drew. And many thanks for sharing and looking deeper into the history.
Oh, Drew!!! That appraisal was perfect. Thank you so much for doing that. The appraisal amount was impressive, but the history of the art is the most beautiful thing. I’m so glad you are the steward of these pieces. Your utter delight shines through. Warms my heart.
Drew, this house is a treasure that was meant for you to bring back to its formal glory! What I would love to see is that you design each space around these lamps! Is an investment that will bring value and is something you have been given to protect and cherish!
Wow Drew is 6ft, would never guess that...but anyway I love how his passion for his work shines through and he makes things come alive with his eyes and voice!
Oh, my God, Drew--I can't imagine what your home insurance costs will be, but you need to SERIOUSLY insure those fixtures! God bless, you got an amazing gift in this home! Also, you and Dr. Laurie need to team up and create a replica series for the rest of us who crave the beauty of these fixtures but on a budget--please oh please make that happen!
Yes! Drew you need to get with your insurance agent and add a rider to the policy specifically covering these fixtures. Take good pictures and put them in your safe or safety deposit box. It’s best to have a safety deposit box to store important papers separate from your house so if anything happens to the house your papers survive.
This was amazing! To have all these intact fixtures in your new home is such a bonus to the beauty of the home itself. That and all the other original features. Drew, what a wonderful home! Congratulations!
The lighting is beautiful and Dr. Lori is a true historian. You have some extremely experienced and knowledgeable followers that do have your best interest at heart. Investing in good security system is worth the money spent.
I could definitely see a different homeowner getting rid of all of these fixtures for newer fixtures. This makes me even more happy that Drew got this house and will preserve a majority of these fixtures and really take into consideration that age of the home.
This video brings me so much joy because DREW!!! The universe put you on the path to this house and you are just brilliantly happy and beaming. Love this for you💛
Dr. Lori traveled before the pandemic. I went to her seminar in Florida. It was great meeting her. All of those light fixtures are what are are the treasures of that house. Don’t get rid of them please. They are exquisite and make your house super unique.❤️
These light fixtures are GORGEOUS! I also love the Murano glass fixture. So delicate and intricate for such a heavy piece. And the Gothic Revival amber globe piece. Wow! Stunning pieces! Congratulations!
Dr. Lori is the PERFECT appraiser for your lights!! EDIT: LOL … Oh Drew how your opinion & attitude towards the Murano pieces from your first walkthrough 🤣!
That was one of the most enjoyable 24 minutes I've spent in a very long time. I'm delighted that your home has such beautiful lighting. Apropos, as you bring so much light into the world!
DREW! I'm so glad you got an expert appraisal of your light fixtures. I knew you had some impressive pieces. The first thing you should do is get them insured. Then, when you clean them, be VERY careful. Not only how you clean them, but what you use to clean them. I'm also glad she talked to you about your ceiling beams. I knew those too are very special. You really scored big time with this place and I think it's going to bring your design work to the next level. You now have a big responsibility before you. You are now not only a homeowner but a steward of history. Keep up the good work.
I’m so happy Drew decided to buy this property as you can tell he has so much respect for the history and traditional features. I can wait to see how he works with them
The combination of all of the old light fixtures and maybe your modern furniture or decorations are beautiful together I wouldn't take out any of the fixtures
Okay y’all collabing on this was epic y’all’s personalities mesh so well! And also my jaw dropped so many times learning about these light fixtures ! what a treat for you in your new home having all that history is so cool
History writer here. Agree with @Patricia Heirsupply, museum curator. Insurance value is different from “worth value.” The “replacement” value of these antique pieces needs, as suggested, Fine Arts specialists. Great Britain also has a magnificent Arts & Crafts reference centre for history, as many of the artisans were British but travelled overseas to wealthy homes.
Oh, now that you know so many were probably original to the house, worth so much, are meticulously made by artisans so long ago, how could you ever replace them??? Nothing could match their history in your lovely home!!! Hoping you keep them ALL!!!!
Oh WOW! the look on your face when she told you the value of your bedroom chandelier was so funny! Great segment on your restoration journey. Some great ideas from other commenters about getting pics of your house from the past and some more history of the people that lived there. Love your light fixtures and hope you don't move them or replace them. Love them as they are! Blessings and peace from Texas
Love that you are honouring the artistry and history of your home and the fixtures that were left. So many people would tear it all down and modernize it, but the world needs home likes this!!!
OMG! Run, don’t walk, to your insurance agent and get a rider added to your homeowners insurance!!! Now that you’ve shown these to the world, I hope you have a security system! They are gorgeous!!!!!!!
We all loved the vintage lights from our first view. So exciting to see the appraisal...they're works of art. Wonder if you could find old photos of the house back in the day, and maybe old family photos? That would be so interesting. Dig into house history for all of us!!! 😍
Thank God the other owners never changed the lighting. When you did your house, tour I was clapping my hands because I thought thise lights look antique. I'm so excited for you. Now you know what your lighting is worth. I think there are insurance companies that specialize in antiques. Congratulations.
Don’t feel the pressure to keep any you don’t feel 100% attached to! It’s your house make it yours :) if you sell them for that kind of money hello, the person who purchases it will more than likely take care and appreciate them! Take care of you Drew. Try to remember we can’t please everyone it’s your very first home and your very own and don’t feel guilty about it if you don’t absolutely love it 😍
I agree. I personally don't like most of them and they also hang really low and intrusively into the room. If they were mine I would sell most of them and use the money to renovate the house to my own taste.
If you remove those items you change the character of the house. The house in it‘s whole is an antique, rip of the tiles, woodwork, original flooring, lights the house will loose much of the value, more as selling single parts one by one. Here it would be forbidden and put under the historic preservation regulation because the house represents a time period perfectly. If you don‘t like Art Deco, go buy a house from another time period. I look at this house and my heart bleeds. I am really afraid of the changes it will experience by thoughtless home owners.
Jackpot ! The fixtures are incredible. I so hope you will leave them in place. When I was young I replaced some decorations from the late 30’S , to suit the 70’s . Oh I still cringe to think of it. Most of my choices were fine but two were terrible. Who owned this house? I would live with them for at least a year before you change anything. luckily the current style of mixing modern and antiques could work for you. You are very creative , I cannot wait to see more. Oh Dr. Laurie is great too.
Oh, this was such a fun video! Someone really cared for this home to keep original details. I definitely want to check out Dr. Laurie 's channel now, too.
That was really fun! Dr. Lori was a fantastic guest. She has such a humorous, knowledgeable and confident presentation style. We were really curious about the origin of all of the light fixtures and she certainly filled in the blanks. Thanks
That was so interesting! Lone Fox goes Antiques Roadshow. I remember you said the one in your primary bedroom wasn’t your style, but I’m guessing it will find a permanent place somewhere in your beautiful home. ❤️
This video was amazing! When you did the house tour I thought some light fixtures beautiful but I thought a few were almost ugly. HOWEVER, after getting a more up close look and learning their history from Dr. Lori I find them all amazing! The craftsmanship is irreplaceable. The fixture with the green glass, stunning!
It’s going to be so interesting to see how Drew incorporates his own style with these light fixtures. Even if he doesn’t keep all of them up. I trust he will make every room amazing.
And about the « value » he doesnt need to include the lights in the designs.. just to keep them some place safe. All these lights are a part of history, having them all in the same house doesnt tell us anything except about the taste of the people who bought them..
Gorgeous fixtures. It's amazing that they survived the 20th century intact. Make sure to get appropriate insurance coverage. Although the fixtures might be irreplaceable, they have a value that must not be discounted.
Oh my gosh Drew!!! You are so lucky to have all of those original period light fixtures!!! And the appraised price - WOW!!! Please keep all of them - it is so rare to see such beautiful light fixtures in an original home - something you only see in museums!!! You are VERY fortunate that the sellers did not remove all of them and replace them with some kind of builder grade junk!!! So looking forward to seeing what you do with the house - Love you!!! 😘😘😘😘😘😘❤❤❤❤❤❤
so lots of comments about HOW is Drew going to keep all the amazing historic lighting while still creating the more contemporary style of home that is DREW. A source of inspiration is ITALY - were there is a great movement in both architectural restoration and interior design to reclaim and use 300, 400 year old buildings. Fabulous work by 21 century designers who respect the history- leaving much of the character and unique features- but making a cool livable modern home. Drew - so looking forward to your journey-

ALL the lights are so beautiful! I know they aren't the worth a ton ( except the last one) but the history and the artistry are so unique. It's so amazing that they are STILL in the house.
Those light fixtures are amazing, I'd keep them all, move them around the house if necessary for the upcoming design and just basically design everything around them. Wow!
I've been a fan of Dr. Lori for many years! Her knowledge is extraordinary. Drew, your home and those light fixtures are spectacular works of art!! Make sure you put them on your homeowners insurance asap.
Oh My Goodness, Drew!!!!!!! Your light fixtures together would come really close to covering the cost of a decent sized, it doesn't have to look like a McMansion, home, even in some parts of the US if you know where to look and you're okay living in a midsized city or on the outskirts of a big city in certain areas of the US, and for sure in several other countries if you wanted to buy a 2 to 3 bedroom house... Even in certain areas of the Hawaiian Islands, as well as other Island states/countries!!! Of course that would be IF you wanted to sell them...LOL!!!! Your house is just so lovely, decorated so beautifully, with at least the look of if not in true value of expensive taste, without it being gaudy and/or over the top/overbearing, but instead, warm and cool, clean cut, almost simplistic, however it is anything but simplistic... I love watching you work, seeing your creative ideas and learning from you. That's coming from someone who doesn't buy into fashion and design, especially the idea of changing all of the décor every season and/or holiday to keep up with the trends...I don't get any of that from you, I get a, I said simplistic, maybe it's a minimalist vibe from you. Like it is keeping up with trends but in smaller under-stated/under-toned pieces that pop, but in a subtle way, a work of charm and elegance, I love it!!!
That is insane Drew!!!! Wow!! 😯 you could tell they were originals and antiques but I had no idea!! Some rich movie star or executive went to Paris to get lights for his/her home being built in sunny California! I just love that!!😊♥️

It makes you wonder about how much the rugs might be worth, too.
I agree.

That is incredible! The more Dr Lori described each fixture and the history, the more I fell in love with each one. Congratulations on such rare finds!

I am just shocked that through all the years with so many decor styles that these fixtures were left alone and never replaced. Curious as to how many owners have lived in the home.
Yes me too! It’s amazing!
@@Gracielooks I was thinking the same thing.
I need to know about previous owners too. The fixtures are paying for the house

Exactly 💯💯
Already in the process!!
and maybe have someone come check if they are all properly mounted on the ceiling .. wouldn't want one of them come crashing down
@@lonefox Drew, if you haven't already done so, if I were you I'd set up a home security system worthy of Fort Knox! And by that I mean of course cameras, motion detectors and lights that turn on automatically with motion, and really really REALLY secure door and window locks. You've got over $45,000 worth of easily movable and beautiful antiques in your home, and if I were you I'd lock those puppies down TIGHT!
Actually, this video is perfect documentation. He's showing every light fixture and an expert describing each one and giving an estimated value.
Have you learned the history of who owned the house?
These light fixtures don't exist anymore because there's no master who can handmade these designs. The value is unlimited. Keep them! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Dr. Lori gave you some clues-on someone
Going to France to search for light fixtures. For my house, i was able to go all the way back to when the Spanish Missions owned my property as a vineyard.
Yup. You can’t buy quality like that today. It’s ART.
I'm experiencing happy chills watching this video. Every light fixture took me back to a place in time. Each one telling a story.

You know what would be amazing? If you toured it at night to let us see them all lit up! I'm sure they look stunning with light shining through them. Please please do it! My favorite is the one with the hanging garland. So pretty. Intricate without being ostentatious.

That one was my second fav, it's gorgeous.
Loving all your light fixtures. Thanks for sharing Mr Drew.
I wish we could see how the house was originally decorated. Based on these fixtures, mostly imported, I imagine the original owners had some very bougie taste.
Would that be so fun to see!
Yes! Maybe research original owner? Family, newspapers, archives. We're they of some renown? It would be a fun research.
bouji
I’m amazed that all those fixtures survived all these years and weren’t replaced through the years. One is better than the next!!! Congratulations!!!!
I sure hope you keep every single one of the light fixtures and admire them everyday for the artistry and originality

Bravo, Drew, for getting these appraised and educating yourself on history, art periods, value, etc.! Yes! Drew you need to get with your insurance agent and add a rider to the policy specifically covering these fixtures. Take good pictures and put them in your safe or safety deposit box. It’s best to have a safety deposit box to store important papers separate from your house so if anything happens to the house your papers survive.
I think recreating those would not make them more affordable. They would still have to be made by hand ..

Yes, get an insurance policy on those, especially with workers going in and out!!! Just stunning!!!! She had so much great info to pass along.
