I have subscribed and downloaded 'Capricho Arabe'. I like this channel because Josh teaches an ever-expanding range of great and interesting songs to an even bigger range of guitarists, from beginners to advanced players, and does not hold anything back behind the idea that some truly classic pieces (like this one and Moonlight Sonata or Asturias for example) are too important or esoteric to teach to just anyone... especially for free! He also introduced me to Erik Satie which I am eternally greatful for
I can't believe I didn't reply to this :)
I had problem understanding few parts of this video, but watching repeatedly, problem is resolved. Very helpful video indeed
Great comment. I wish more people would take time to do what you did instead of saying I speak too quickly or rush some sections. It's like they forget this is a video with several different speed settings and the option to rewind or fast forward at will.....
@@nbnguitar INDEED SIRE. I sink that some people
(like I did at first sight of the video)
can not resist their 'Will to Learn' thus they convert their 'Will to Learn' into 'Will to Quickly Learn'.
Then their tempo of pulse with the pressure of blood, increases, they may feel like what they are listening or watching is fast & speed-full, while, the fastness & speediness lies inside them. Lolz

I think you are great teacher. You are in fact the only one I am listening to now. Good work!
Hi Peter. Thank you so much. I would recommend checking out some other guitar teachers though as they can expose you to pieces, techniques, and principles that I haven't touched on :)
I do not usually leave comments in videos, but I sincerely want to thank you. You have helped me improve my technique so much. Thanks again :)
Hi Charlie. Glad to hear that your technique has improved because of my videos :D
Thank you very much Joshua! You have been a great help. Among a plethora of teachers on the net, you are truly the best for those who wants to play the guitar. You have made one more loyal subscriber/fan.
Absolutely a fantastic lesson of one of the most wonderful pieces written for classical guitar. Thank you again Joshua!
Hi John. It really is isn't it? For me Capricho Árabe represents everything that is awesome about playing guitar - stunning melodies, great composition techniques that exploit and highlight some of the coolest guitar techniques, and it isn't too extreme technically. I mean it is a difficult piece but not overly so. BTW thanks so much for purchasing so many scores! I'm blown away. Thank you John!!
Excellent work love your control😮
Thank you very much :)
Nice work. You have talent! Thank You

Fernando Torres no need to apologize friend. Thank you so much for your support and well wishes for my channel.
I feel like I'll stay a while down here, listening to this wonderful piece, until I decide to take my own guitar and let some tears bleed through my fingers.

farid amin You're welcome!
Thanks for the lesson, Joshua. I actually tackled this piece a few years ago by watching this very video, came back to it yesterday and found out how much I missed (didn’t understand).
Can’t find the 2nd part of the lesson though. Did you delete it?
Thanks mate.
My pleasure Ali. It’s always good to revisit pieces. The second part is exclusive to paid members on my website nbnguitar.com/membership
Thanks Josh! took me a couple of months before i could play through this without stopping due to major mistakes or forgetfulness - though i'm totally butchering it, it's sounding better every day. Thanks so much for this awesome lesson. I'd never have been able to pay this without your note by note teaching method. How can I get part 2? and what are some other songs that are similar to this - with the chords and melody going on at the same time like in this piece? I want to start learning more stuff like this but have no clue.
You're welcome Pop Shop. I made these tutorials for people just like you - people that struggle to read music and/or tabs. I know some great players (non-readers) that love CG but they just can't figure it all out by ear whereas others can read but they just can't connect the dots to the guitar. I'm really glad that my method worked for you.
Cavatina is a beauty - try giving that a go!
awesome! thanks so much for this.
My pleasure Yestin or as we say in Aotearoa 'sweet az'
Nice!👍
Thanks Mirel!
joshua rogers What can I do to receive from you tabs for this beautiful piece? I play fist part, but second seems to me dificult...but I see in your video some easy positions for this second part! Thx!
muy vien perfecto excelente
Gracias Moisés!
i've trying to play this song for years, now i can. thank you so much for sharing your talent. by the way, i couldnt find the next tutorial. have you deleted it?? thanks!!
Thanks very much Wilfredo. The second video is only available with memberships on my website nbnguitar.com/membership
Is this worth learning if you only have a steel string? Also, does part 2 include right hand finger positions? Cheers man
+Stephen Condruk Hi. It's definitely worth playing on a steel string. Part 2 is exactly the same style as Part 1. My full fingering indications are in sheet music + tabs score that I sell for a few $$ on my website. I have a free tabs score too but there's no fingering indications in that one.
Hello good fellow guitarist,
I am asking if you're guitar is a Takamine brand ?
Please reply as your time permits.
Thank you SO much.
rob donell Hello! Yes, it’s a Takamine TH5C Hirade :)
It looks much like their ec132sc. The Hirade is higher end as I recall. About how young is it and what brand and tension are the strings ?
I think I was using Augustine High Tension strings when I did this.
What is the 6th string tuned to ? Or is that how low it is on classical ? Because I'm about halfway through the piece I believe and I still have no clue how to properly tune my 6th to yours
Hi. The 6th string is tuned down one tone to D (drop D). Sorry I didn't mention it in the video or the description! I've since gone back to the description and added the tuning in there. Thanks for the heads up and all the best with this awesome piece!
joshua rogers thank you so much man! This piece is such a challenge and a great time to play. Can't thank you enough for getting back to me :)
You're welcome man. This is one of my earlier videos and at that time I didn't really have a formula down hence the reason I forgot to mention the tuning! It is a challenging but truly rewarding piece to play. I always try to respond to every comment :D

Good to know. Over 100k views and nobody has ever mentioned that I mispronounced it. Thanks :)
I wonder how many months it'll take me to learn this - I've only been playing guitar 4 weeks but I just cannot help but dare to take on the challenge.
It'll probably take you a few years to have this piece under your belt.
@@nbnguitar Oh! Thank you so much for your reply! I'm actually relieved rather than discouraged, because I'm not putting all the blame on myself anymore for taking a really long time to do a couple of seconds from the instructions. I'll get it done, and I'll e-mail you the results if I can.

You're welcome Vorname. Happy to be of assistance to you.
I was involved in an accident and lost movility. After 8 years my fingers have fully recovered. And thanks God I find you and your channel. Thank you very much. You really cannot understand what this means to me.
A powerful comment Victor. I'm glad that your fingers have fully recovered and that you're able to tackle the guitar again.
Hello Joshua! could you do a tutorial on "Água e vinho"
egberto gismonti!
Thanks have a great week!
Hi Tiago. I'll have to check it out. I'm receiving so many requests for tutorials that there's no way I can keep up with all of the requests. You have a great week too bro! I can promise you that I'll have a listen to it though :D
Any advice on the pull offs at the beginning? I cant get good clear sound. I have a harmony patrician with steel strings and no issue, but on my Cordoba the nylons just dont ring out on pull offs for me, my technique must be bad.
I believe anyone who tried learning this for the first time had that problem.
Only advice I can give you, as someone who can play this piece fairly well, is to keep practicing. Over and over again. You’ll get it.
I'd suggest just working on your pull-off technique on your Cordoba. Do a bunch of ligado exercises to build up your strength and you should be good to go.
The part at 11:20 is driving me nuts, been playing it for weeks and I can’t get it to sound as clean as this
Hey Vincent, you gotta make sure you've got a sound ligado technique to pull that off (excuse the pun) properly. Remember to pull across the string i.e. downwards towards the ground rather than simply lifting off. I've got a couple of videos on that particular technique on my channel somewhere. All the best!
Me too that's really hard
I've been on this song for three years and can only get to 13 minutes. I am slowly starting to believe that this talent has to be innate.
9:40 and forward with the pinky pull offs, this is not easy 🤣
Truly. As long as you have a good pull-off technique you'll be ok.
Hello! Do you have a patreon or anything? It feels so genuinely nice to learn these songa from you. For example i saw capricho arabe in a lot of versions, and all of them was so difficult i couldnt even follow. Then found your guide, and i jist had to learn it. You made every day when im playing this, a expectional day and im so thankful.. Sorry for bad english, im bad at expressing myself in foreign language haha.. Anyways love you!! And your work is just phenomenal! Keep it up
Hi Soma. You're message is really awesome and I thank you for taking the time to write it. You can make donations on my website (link in the description). Your english is fine and I hope your playing of Capricho Arabe is fine too!
Nice to meet you teacher! Now I am your student, and congratulations on the excellent class! Thank you man
Nice to meet you too Abraao! Haha I'm just helping people along the path. I'm really happy you're getting some benefit from the lessons. You're most welcome bro. Let your fingers fly!
At the last part when you run on the B string use the lower E as your 5th B fret so you have time for the 6,7,8,9 in quick succession. This little tip made it soo much smoother for me because I was struggling with it. Also have pt2 from your site and it's great! Thanks for teaching us🙏🏼
Great tip. The only issue with that is a tonal one. The open E on the first string will sound quite different to the other notes that surround it, however if you're good with that then power to you! Thanks for your kind words regarding my website too :)
I've been trying to learn this song from you for several years, but it's really very difficult, especially to memorize everything.
In the beginning it was really difficult to master the grips. Meanwhile, this is no longer a problem, and yet I've only gotten halfway through this first part for years and I get confused while playing. Are there any tips?
You fascinate me so much Joshua, how can you know all this?
Did you start doing it when you were a child and were you encouraged?
Hi Rudi. Thank you for sharing part of your guitar journey with the NBN Guitar community.
Some pieces are a real challenge to learn due to technical limitations, memory challenges, time constraints or just whatever. My only suggestions are to look over where you are struggling in the piece to determine if it's a memory thing, technical thing, both and/or something else. If you don't know where or why you're struggling you'll never overcome the issue.
I started playing when I was 13 (I'm now 49), which means I have 36 years of learning, performing, and teaching experience. This is probably why I appear to know a lot of stuff about guitar. I wasn't encouraged to play per se, however my parents were all good with me learning to play guitar and my father did suggest that I should learn classical guitar because it would make me a better all-round musician.
Very Learnful
Also, at 20:14, 4th finger 4th fret is spoken, while, 4th finger & 3rd fret is played. This speaking error can be improved through subtitles or anyhow
Thanks by the way
I usually make a little mistake here or there and for that I do apologise. Teaching these complex pieces in this manner is very difficult but I do my best. Your suggestions are welcome.
Does anyone know if there is a lesson 2 uploaded ? I dont seem to find d second part for this video
There is a second part but it is only available to paid members on my website nbnguitar.com/membership for more information Thakur.
at first i think this lesson is impossible to learn, because i don''t read about the tuning drop(D), so i discover it my self that the 6th string is different, then i see the explanation about the tuning, then i think this is my fault, your teaching is so good , thank you very much for this good tutorial i like it
Hi Mitsu. I do wish there was a way to force people to read the description for my videos! I'm sure it would save them a lot of frustration and time but such is the nature of UA-cam - most people just watch the video (or just a part of it) and they don't read the description. Creators like me often post a lot of information in the description. All the best with Capricho Arabe and thanks for your comment :)
I do not know how to play that music, it's very difficult ... by chance you speak Spanish
Hi Sasha. Unfortunately I cannot speak spanish. I only know a few words and songs.
Thank you very much for the tutorial! best teacher out there, but... the piece is not finished in the end right?
Frank van Dijke you are correct. I made two videos for this piece.
ive been to a bunch of different videos and tabs and for some reason this video is helping me the most by a long shot. thanks heaps
You're welcome. I wonder why my video is the most helpful to you?

Thank you for you precious help ; it allowed me to progress; strongly the tutorial 2 for caprichio arabic of TARREGA.
121/5000 what does that mean?
121/5000 I don't know ; it was added by mistake
I dont have F cut guitar...how to play after 13th fret???
Hi Sweety it's been a while since you commented. Nice to hear from you again. To play past the 12th fret on a traditional instrument you need to extend your elbow towards the head of the guitar and your thumb should abandon its usual position to either the underside of the neck or completely off the neck. Try that and see how you go.
I would like to know which scales are used in this piece?
Mainly D Minor,, D Major, F Major, and a few diminshed and chromatic scale runs interspersed throughout.
Excellent... One of my favourites thanks mate!
Hi Lee. Long time no see. You're welcome mate. This piece sure is a beaut.

Good morning from the East coast of Aotearoa. Thank you very very much Antonio. Your pleasant manner and wonderful comment has brightened my day :)
Beautiful lesson, but I wish you upload second part for free, because in Iraq we can't contact and pay for it..unfortunately... do you?
Thanks Andy. I feel for your situation but I will not make the second lesson freely available. Too many people already steal my stuff so I keep certain things safely locked away behind a paywall. You should try looking at the two videos I uploaded with Andrea de Vitis of Capricho Arabe.
I am sorry for stealing your stuff...I think there is a paradox between Musician and stealing something and one should be right,if someone is Musician he/she never steals something and if someone steals something he/she isn't a musician...
I have a request why don't be the one to make guitar lesson to Tarrega : Rosita?
Hey Joshua, I just listened to this song yesterday and I wanted to learn it as soon as I did. The thing is, that I'm struggling to do the simple pull-offs from the beginning because when I do it, it moves the string out of the fret and the makes the open sound. How do you manage to not do that? Also, are you sliding down your finger through the string, or just moving it?
Hey Pablo, I'm really sorry but I can't understand your comment. There are no open strings so make sure that your first finger is always on the correct fret. There are no pull-offs to open strings in the opening section. I am using the first finger as a guide finger i.e. it glides along the string
Lovely editing. Almost flawless!
I'd have to do my editing one note at a time!
Sometimes one frame at at time, for this piece!
If you're having problems at 23:56, then maybe you could think about taking your guitar to a luthier to get the action checked, and consider using lower tension strings, if you've not already done so. It ought to be possible for you to keep the barre there, rather than re-fingering, if your technique is solid. I think it sounds much better played according to "Tarrega's" fingering, However, whether it's work taking the time and effort to go this far to achieve what is, basically, just a barre chord, is up to you, of course! I gather that many of Tarrega's original scores are not available, and so we may have lost a lot of what he intended. Maybe your way was his way!
Getting your guitar carefully set up will also pay dividends all over the fretboard, and make it easier to play, to boot!
😉
Lol i just realized that beginning chord part around 9-ish minute sounds alot like Django Reinhard's Tears :D
Oh yeah?
Bom dia, boa tarde, boa noite professor! Obrigado pelas aulas. Sensacional!!!

Thank you :). I haven't made a lesson for 'Ave Maria'. I may do in the future. I'm not sure :)
Dear Joshua, I understand your personal commitments, but as you will know, this is a universal music track among the best known in the Western world, almost as much in the Eastern world ...
I also know that on UA-cam there are some tutorials on this music track, but I prefer your lessons. If in a few months you decide to do a tutorial, I and many others will be there.
Hi Robin. I mentioned this in another reply but please if possible don't download my videos from UA-cam. It's a help to me if you watch on UA-cam as it is one way of supporting me and the UA-cam platform. So many people watch these videos and download my tabs without contributing anything apart from their watch time. That's fine. Other's will watch the advertisements as a way of helping to support what I do. The next level will actually buy something from my website or become members which is the ultimate way of helping me. I hope you reconsider downloading :)
