I'm not really a person who harps back to the "good old days" but I think the live music experience in the 80s, 90's and early 2000's was so much better - and sadly I don't think we'll ever go back to that. You'd queue for tickets at the venue or reseller, queue at the venue early enough and you'd get straight to the front, no mobiles in your face, no over managed over produced experience .....just you and the music.
I had the privilege of seeing Big Country several times in the 80s and early 90s and they're still the best band I've ever seen live.

Fully agree, have one of their CDs permanently in the car (the one with Eiledon). Mind you, Biffy Clyro gives us some hope.
Forgot to add. Always thought the Big Country bassist was fantastic - always on point. And, Simple Minds lead guitar played embellishments perfectly - almost ignoring he was lead. Scotland has given us plenty. Greetings from Ireland.

I was at this concert and saw them there a couple of years later. Still say to this day they were one of the best live bands of that generation If not all time. Always thought they were better in a smaller arena where the crowd was right on top of it all. Always came away from a BC gig knackered, deaf and in a state of joy. RIP Stuart you are sorely missed by all your fans.

Yes, my first time was at the Birmingham NEC in 1986 with 15000 people and last was in a University gym in Milton Keynes with about 350 people in 2000 yet both cases they were excellent definitely no going through the motions showing the size of the audience made no difference.

I have been obsessed with the song "In A Big Country" for a while now after noticing it on Sirius radio while working my restaurant job and finally am digging into their other material. I consider myself a pretty well versed music fan but I am absolutely blown away that I haven't seen this band's name come up more often in popular culture. Every song is immediately captivating. The energy in their live videos is always through the roof. I cannot get enough. I was sad to discover the singer's fate. To whoever cares to know... his and the band's legacy continues to reel in new fans in the year 2022.
Thank you for this music. Cheers!

It happens, just as we think people are content with their lives
You can't understand their minds, even the happiest ones, you don't have to be a sad or depressed person
One of my best mates commited suicide ( age 39)
He was always a great laugh at school, but it could of been something to do with the loss of his Father, money, Marriage, life is awful when you just can't sort things out to keep everyone happy
I don't think Stuart, was a sensitive Man, but he must of been going through shit times that the alcohol made his thoughts get darker
I don't believe he was another Kurt Cobain, 🙏

Ah, the good old days growing up! I remember finding The Crossing while browsing through vinyl records in my local store. After listening to it I looked up their other published albums and then buying them as they got released.
Learning about Stuart’s death was a shock. I was living in the US since April 2000, so I learned about it in US news media.

Iraq invaded Kuwait about a week before this was filmed. Our partying days in Europe were limited as the Berlin Wall fell and we began to deploy to the Middle East to eject the Iraqi Army from Kuwait. My life was never the same. It’s a cracking looking guitar. How much did he pay for it any idea?

    Guitar Legend!
    Truly great songwriter.
I saw many, many, many live gigs, concerts in the 1970's, 80's & 90's....very few were as memorable as Big Country at Phimore Country Club, Saltburn, circa 1982 - 84, Jumping & Rocking, heaving....just like at this gig!
    Memorable concert.
    Memories of great days.

I feel sorry for the crowd, that they didn't get to stand there motionless while holding a phone up in the air. Things are so much better now

This video brought me so much joy , what an amazingly brilliant band. I still believe their debut album is the greatest debut from a band ever , not one dud note and have listened to it thousands of times in the last 40 or so years and loved every minute every time. Stuart Adamson you'll never be forgotten....thank you.

I think I was at this gig; I went to most BC gigs at The Town & Country Club around this time and recall Mark B not being on drums. It was like a furnace in there that night.

As well as their myriad of original material they are also a brilliant cover band, which highlights their brilliant musicianship. Eclectic is one of my favourite BC albums. Their Neil Young covers are just awesome. I hope you are in a happy place Stuart.

Thank you so much for posting this, I used to have a VHS recording of this which i must have almost worn out I played it that often! I was gutted when my tape collection was lost to damp and have been looking for this for ages.
