Sweet LORD do I miss this band!! They helped make the 80s (..and my difficult adolescence) so much more bearable!!! At least this fantastic music is still around to pass on to my son!!
I'm ashamed to say I totally forgot how utterly fucking Brilliant this band was. First cassette I had on my Walkman and i played inwards to death. We need a Stuart Adamson around now.
The guitar timing between Stuart and Bruce on Inwards is amazing. It is not one playing chords while the other plays lead, instead Bruce is playing arpeggio up and down in very exact timing to Stuarts lead with every individual note picked at precisely the same moment. Add to this Tony and Mark providing exactly timed rhythm and base, and the whole thing is so intricate and excellent. I don't think people appreciate what good musicians they were(are). Having tried to play their songs with another guitarist, I have found they are some of the hardest songs I have ever tried to play. That is both good and bad. It's good because no one will ever be able to duplicate their sound, on the other hand there are really no covers of their songs which I for one would like to hear.
Their sound is/was so unique full of nuances, intricate changes and song structures and the musicianship off the charts. Not to mention that guitar/pipe sound effect bringing the celtic angle into it.
I am an honest man, I need the love of you... RIP Stuart, it makes me sad that the love of the fans wasn't enough to keep you here with us. Wonderland can still make me cry :(
I agree. Stuart was my biggest influence as a teenager. I Heard fields of fire on the radio and thought jesus wept what was that!!!!!!!!!! Cue the start of my love of Big Country, and more so finding all the back catalogues of the Skids. x
I still can´t believe I discovered the band just a few weeks ago. It was a revelation. I feel so good listen to them. Then when I knew that Stuart Adamson was dead and how I felt so sad for him. Something I will never understand is how come they were not up there with the big names of music. Thank God I can listen to this fantastic Band.
A lot of people feel the same way. I was a teenager in the 80's; the "big 4" of UK rock were Big Country, Simple Minds, U2 and Echo and the Bunneymen. U2 only became a global brand after re-inventing themselves many times. The other three still exhist (in one form or another) but mainly chose to stick to their roots. If Stuart was still alive and song writing, well that's one of those great "what ifs". Before his death he was experimenting in Nashville with country music so who knws? As a pal of mine always says, never too late to find good music, whatever age it is \m/
Bad management. They missed out on Liveaid, which would have boosted their exposure in the US in the mid-80s. Poor A&R choices when it did come down to radio and MTV airplay. They had a huge following in Europe compared to the US. In the UK it was always love-hate.
@@jumpinjojo i put it into my rating calculator and based on the small number of individuals that even know who he is, comes out to a 7.3 out of possible 10
31 of May 2000 Barrowland rocked!!! We knew it was the last waltz for 2000 and we knew Big Country was on hold. In fourteen years a lot has changed but we still are Big Country!!! (H) Stay Alive! RIP Stuart my magpie in that rainbow! Yes I do believe in ghosts!!!
My goodness - they sound as good if not better than they did when they released this album 17 years earlier! Incredible recording! Lovin' the kilts, too! Rest well, Stuart - and thank you , lads!
I love this song !!! it's a fucking masterpiece !! It really rocks !!! It will live forever in my heart thats for sure !!!! Stuart Adamson forever and ever .............
What they do at 8:15 is incredible and gave me the Chills... "Do You Believe in Ghosts"... Arguably the GREATEST Storytelling Song Saga of ALL TIme..... Restless Natives...
Love the Restless Natives sequence towards the end, "Do you believe in ghosts?" If they exist then I hope you can see how much you're missed Stuart and realise how much your music means to so many.
So glad i got to see Stuart Adamson with big country 3 times...in the 80s,90s...and the final fling! RIP Stuart....your music continues to put a smile on my face,I'm forever thankful.
People always say that their music sounded the same… I agree. Fcuking fantastic. Butler the bass monster was one of the best of his time. Probably one of the best rhythm sections of the day. Bruce reminds me of spud. RIP Stewart, thanks for the memories.
Big Country is so good this makes me cry, Goosebumps sen-sate my whole body and I fall in love with music again! The Energy is Awesome! Just wish I would have seen them live. When I was a little guy i always remember there song Big Country and it was one song that was closest to my Heart from the 80's, sometimes wish I live in Europe. Island Music is always the best!
I saw then on Friday, August 15 1986 at the Hollywood Palladium and it was easily one of the best shows I have ever seen. The whole place was jumping through their entire set.
Inwards, is Absolutely My Favorite BC Song... Incredible Guitars, Bass, Drums and that Vocal! One of the Best All Time Rock Songs from One of the Very Best Rock Bands of All Time! 🏴🇬🇧💪🏻🎸🎤🎸🎸🥁🎼🎵🎶💪🏻🇬🇧🏴
what can we say stuart he was just so good on the guitar. why did he have to die, he was loved by so meany. miss your sound and what a sound it was RIP, legend
agree with prior thoughts, but I would add more. Wonderland was not just a new song by BC. While the songs on The Crossing were extraordinary (Inwards is still powerful, as ever), Wonderland was a transformation. It was an anthem, but extremely personal and at the core, a guitar song, front and centre. I love the instruments, drums and guitars, that drive poetry that will outlast us all.
the most brilliant stars sometimes burnout much too soon. i am most grateful to have seen him do what he was blessed with. i cannot thank him enough.....

Such a Great Band , makes me wonder how the Years, have gone by so quickly. Keep, rocking BC. You are enjoying yourselves and making alot of people, happy.
I'm 34 and by the time I got into Big Country they had already broken up and Stuart Adamson had passed on, ah fuck it, better late than never, this gig looked fuckin class, Alba gu bràth!!
Stuart's slide downhill was well underway at this point in time, but my God the performance they gave! They had lost none of their ability to perform a killer live gig. I think the Final Fling video is possibly my favourite of all the ones they released on video.
@johndlowell My friend, your statement is one of the best descriptions of this brilliant band of musicians that I have ever read in all of the posts on you tube.It perfectly describes the essence of Big Country. And as far as greatest rock n roll front man goes I would personally probably agree with you as Big Country are by far my favorite band. But as you know all to well the recognition that Stuart,Bruce,Tony and Mark should have gotten for their musical abilities never happened..Stay Alive.
His suicide was 6 years after my mom's. No correlation but just tragic circumstances on all ends. Brilliant people seem to die within before their organic form dies. I'll never understand it.
Tony Butler... One of the best bassist ever!!
Tony butler ,legend lemmy ,😥legend
THE Best
Tony and JJ Burnell.
Can't split them and i wouldnt't want to.
For Sure
Is that Stuart on lead vocals ???doesn't look like or sound like him
Best band ever. Feel free to disagree, I wont ever change my mind.
Who is that singing lead?
How long was it after Stewart's passing
I would never disagree with that!! RIP Stuart
@@SteveDave29 that's him
