    Wondering why they are running 2 engines on this route now. I went on this same trip to Silverton in 97 and they only utilized 1 engine per train. Beautiful ride though.

      It depends on train size. I believe anything over 13 or 14 cars required a helper (the first of the two). This usually happens in the summer and fall months when they are very busy and sometimes in the winter when they have only one train per day running to Cascade Canyon. They’re in the process of restoring one that has been in the museum and converting one that couldn’t run in the summer due to being a coal burner. So within the the next year or two, there will likely be mostly single engine trains with an additional steam powered train.

      @@owenthetrainman7219 That makes perfect sense. Glad to hear they are restoring an additional engine. It’s great to see these wonderful pieces of history still being utilized and shared with those that don’t normally get to see them.
