I re-visit your K1 piece and I can understand the love-hate feelings we all have with BMW. To me K1 has the look only a mother can love and BMW is kinda known for making "weird looking" bike; cough, R1300 GSA, cough.
They are wonderful bikes when well-taken care for. That's all I can say.
Better get something for that cold!
Thanks for posting, Dave. I've admired airheads (the BMW kind) for all of my adult life. Your new acquisitions are no exception. In my mind, they are just very sincere motorcycles that will last for decades if properly cared for.
I must confess I don't get the negative correspondence on the K1. You are obviously a lover of virtually all things with 2 wheels and a motor. You have chosen to share your passion and your knowledge with all of us, free of charge. Your critique of a particular motorcycle, good or bad, does not pose any ill will or threat to anyone. It was just an opinion from someone who has obviously owned, resurrected and ridden countless motorcycles. And you've chosen to share your experiences with many of them with anyone who has an interest. What exactly is not to like about that? (Only my opinion, of course).
Thank you and you're welcome. I guess some of those folks really like their K1 and dont want me dissing it. But it is true that some of my story was not just about BMW.
I've ridden airhead since '80. Owned a '70 /5, '77 /7, and now a '77RS and '79RT looking for a late GS. I'll never ride anything else. Do you want to sell me that GS? Or trade for my RS?
I liked the GS, but I sold it to the guy that bought my K1. I had to give him the good with the bad so to speak.
Not the Gary Nixon 500 twin that he won the Daytona on? The Triumph 500 that beat the Harley Davidson XR750's! Do you have that bike? BTW I liked your BMW K1 video. I;m a BMW guy, and I don't deny the parts cost. They do require extensive knowledge and know how. But when you tunes them proper. Man they are sweet bikes!!! I would love to own a nice K1 like yours! Don't let over excited guys stop your videos.
Airheads are the best Beemers. My brother owned a few starting with an R100S. You're GS , heck, they're all awesome. You are too Dave. 😊 p.s I hate later BMWs. Gary Nixon's is terrible.

I just bought myself a R1100RS. I also have a few Honda's. All bikes over 25 years old. The Beemer is the only 1 previous owner bike. I have to be honest the Honda's just run, the Beemer has a lot of issues. And parts are much more difficult to obtain than for the Honda's. Not that more expensive, old Honda parts are expensive too. I do not know why ever since I know bikes (>50 years now, I must be getting old) the Beemer fans are concvinced there is nothing better than a Beemer... Some BMW's are great bikes, some are not. And that's true for all makes. Objectivity is not a virtue of BMW lovers, with the exception of Chris Harris... Apart from that, nice review, thanks!

Bought my first BMW in 1984, still have and run. Bought a 71 SWB 75/5 Toaster in pieces, but were all labeled with those little manilla tags. Seen the sign with Bultaco and Hercules, have a(Orange)1977 175gs, l still ride. Was that an old sign or do you have any 7 speeders, just wondering?
I have a 125 7 Speed. It's actually a street titled runner. It's on our webpage and I think I did a short. Don't see many 175s around. Mostly 125 and 250s

Dave I have to say, love your efforts and time you put into these videos, with that said I felt compelled to respond to this video. It is funny because I try to watch all your videos but I'm not a fan of bmw so that is the reason I waited so long to watch this one, but I'm about finished so down to the last. I wish you still had that toaster tank R75/5. It’s identical to one I bought new as a young man and toured the contiguous United States. Let me know if you find another one that nice!

I also like watching your rides around your neighborhood and Florida, being from the tundra up here in MN were we just endured a long brutal winter it has me looking for those for sale signs on the houses you ride by, Someday im going to find that winter shanty down there thats got a big garage! been riding since 65'. Best bike was 73 r75 short wheelbase. Next best 77r100s. Easy tuneups, dependable as can be!!! Worst purchase ducati 907ie. thanks for this great youtube site.

You have a Gary Nixon bike! And so many other nice bikes. Recently sold my R100GSPD, kind of regretting it a little bit.
I should give you an award! You are the first person to say anything about my Gary Nixon bike!!! And guess what, I used to have 2 of them, the blue one from the following season. I kept this one because I met him there that day in Daytona racing the white one!
