@anonymous I'm glad they didn't. That would have undermined her entire storyline and the impact on both Bojack and the viewers. I'm sad it's ending, but simultaneously I'm glad it's ending on top, rather that fizzling out over several season before slowly dying out, like so many other popular series does.

This show was the first time I had ever seen Asexual representation in media. I didn't think I need any kind of representation nor did I care about it, but the fact that I instantly happy cried for so long at that scene seems to suggest otherwise. I don't think I had ever happy cried before that. The fact that Todd said he think he might be "nothing" before he found out he was asexual hit me so hard because "nothing" was what I identified as for years before I found out asexuality was a thing. I'm very grateful to the creators.

WarmMilk me too. I never knew what I was until this show. Bojack Horseman does so much than portray depression. It shows a wide range of illnesses, preferences, beliefs, emotions and...humanities to the audience and the audience just relates and empathises/sympathises or just connects to those humanities

If I wasn't in a depressed state of just catatonically watching Netflix, I don't think I'd have gotten through the first season. I remember texting friends during it. Me: "Hey, I'm watching that Bojack show."/Friend: "Is it good?" Me: "Eh, it's alright." I liked it just enough to keep going, but it wasn't blowing me away.
I don't remember when that changed, but I think it was after "Live Fast, Diane Nguyen" I was suddenly hooked on Bojack and pushing it on everyone, trying to convince my friends to just keep watching to the point where all the seeds of the early episodes come together into something amazing. A couple of my friends got onboard, and Bojack was our buzz show for 5 years. Everyone else just doesn't understand when I would say things like "I'm about to watch the new season of Bojack, so if I'm horribly depressed for the next week, you know why."

I was all ready to give it up because I hated the other adult cartoons and I thought BJ would be the same, but I finished the season and the tonal shift was a great revelation. Hard to convince people to watch it though.

    • @geneparmesan8748
      @geneparmesan8748 4 роки тому +4

@@micpena3583 I hate to say it, but the first couple episodes are very Family Guy: there are a lot of quick cutaways, and the humour is mostly observational. The Neil McBeil the Navy Seal bit could totally be something Brian would get into, or even Peter.
Friends of mine who don't like Family Guy write those first few Bojack episodes off as more of the same, and friends of mine who do like Family Guy don't have room for another show that seems like it's doing the same thing, so those first episodes are a hard sell.

It's kind of a problem with Netflix and the binge model, I never finished Love or Lady Dynamite either and I loved what I did watch of those shows.

I was constantly high on various substances. I was isolating myself and caving into this addictive feeling I had from it all. Soon enough, I was that person. Someone I could not even recognize. What shook me was a line from season 6 "“I bought into this idea that I was this thing that couldn’t be changed… the main thing I think about is how stupid I am that i didn’t do this sooner. i wasted so many years being miserable because i assumed that was the only way to be. i don’t wanna do that anymore.” I felt that to my core. Remarkable. I confess to being one of those people who initially saw it and said "yea, it's funny, but..." and just forgot about it. Only about 2 years later a friend mentioned the show and told me to finish season 1 and then talk.
Today I consider it the best show of the 2010s. Not one of the best, not best in animation - the best. Hands down. Full stop.
I also completely take Raphael's point about it being difficult. I can't imagine a way to give the audience a clue as to what the show is about in the first 2 episodes. This is a show you have to see a season to understand what it's about. You may not like it afterwards, but you'll know what it's about after a season. No less.

I was one of those who thought the show wasn‘t for me because of the silly beginning😂 a look over my brother‘s shoulder while he was watching season 5 made me try it again, and this time I stuck with it. Have watched the entire show twice, in the process or rewatching a third time with my boyfriend❤️ loving the show!!

I’m not a huge fan of watching movies or shows but this show truly was something else and I don’t think we’ll ever have anything like this again. Bojack Horseman is such a beautiful, realistically depressing, funny, and terrifying allegory for life and the central themes of overcoming, having hope, and dealing with life’s bullshit and still trucking through it because all you can do is keep going is beautiful. It forces you to look at the big picture and really think about the things that matter. This show changed me and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to see this masterpiece.

The amazing aspect of this show for me - it’s so important all of the serious deep points that get touched, but implement within that are these jokes and play on real life and fictional characters that are progressively brought up more and more through each season. The script and thoroughness of character development is insane and I am constantly picking up on things even after my 7th time watching. Hats off to the writers of the show 👏🏻

I came across bojack after a terrible break up and a year of emotional turmoil breaking the cycle of abuse.... I was looking for a fun show to distract me. It took me months to finish the first season because I wasn't hooked. I saved the days I watched on Tuesday. Then a coworker who I became friends with wanted to watch it so we binged the first season together. We would meet after work and watch 3 episodes. This lasted a week. Then I told my therapist how I started watching a show to get back into claiming my enjoyment for my hobbies again. She said you might like the show more if you get past the first season. That made me question her why. She said another client of hers said it helped them under trauma better. I was like what no it's a show about a horse. Then curiosity hit me. I started the second season and was immediately hooked. I started realizing that I was struggling the same way bojack was. I have unstable relationships and self harm and suicidal thoughts. I had to keep taking breaks from watching because someone the abuse lined up so much with mine. At times it did trigger me but it helped me process emotions that I bottled up for years. Any abuse that my family did to me was always pushed under a rug or I was told I remember wrong or lied. My grandmother also got dimenta recently so times arrow helped me understand the illness better. I honestly feel so empty with the show being canceled. I just wanna know if bojack lives or if he really is dead. This revelation of being quiet for years about most of my abuse made me start writing. I am writing my memoir of my life so someone else out there can relate to it and heal from thier trauma knowing they are not alone. I really hope bojack comes back....

This show was amazing in so many ways but it resonated with me on a deeper level than most in the moment that Todd comes out as asexual. I had never met or seen in the media, anyone who felt like me. I used to think "I'm incapable of fully loving" because I was not feeling how I perceived everyone else felt about this huge part of relationships and, just, living in general. When Todd says "I don't think I'm allowed to be in love" that was something I had never heard nor said out loud to myself but it was something I felt and thought pretty much every day. I was like "that's me exactly!" And it started this amazing new understanding of myself that really changed my life. Not only was it the first representation I saw, but it was so true to my experience and simple. The show is just great otherwise too. Normally I wouldn't rewatch a drama / emotional show to watch but the artistry, the writing, the acting, everything about this show was so perfect on so many levels. It's more than worth a rewatch.
It's interesting he said people didn't pick up on the clues that it was something different than a comedy adult cartoon. I immediately picked up on the fact that BoJack and other characters were complex and nuanced and it wasn't going to shy away from that, there was a reason the characters were written that way. I thought "ooohhh like he's a horse man and he's like if Bob Sagat had some more apparent mental health and trauma, a character who struggled with life as it was then, and probably this has always been his lived experience". I was hooked because I was so interested in the characters due to them already seeming well developed. Plus I dig dark humour and like the "smaller" comedic moments, that he's right, the actors really just made that much stronger with delivery.

why is no one talking about the feelings? I'm so glad Bob-Waksberg said it because was the most important part of enjoying his creation. Maybe that explains why I was always crying like a baby when an episode ends. Or the intense goosebumps that possesed all over me between some epics lines. And don't forget the mind blowing moments too. If you take perspective of all this maybe you can see the show was like a psychedelic session; therapeutic by itself if you are able to learn what evokes on you beyond fun. Thanks man. Very good job.

Thank you to the animators, you Bob, the voice actors just everyone really. Truly one of the best animated shows out there. I know the first season gets quite a bit of flack I really enjoyed it though tbh. With all the episodes it says a lot when not one of them really was bad. Sure it repeated a few story beats towards the end but still. Granted was a little let down with the last episode but I didn't feel cheated though. Didn't feel screwed over which with how some shows end is a hell of a feat. Here's to another awesome show Bob and one of the best tv shows out there.
