I love this documentary. Not only was John Candy an amazing actor, but he seemed like one of those guys you wanted to be friends with, hang out with, etc. You can tell if you watch an interview that he's just so down to earth and not crazy or anything. He was one of a kind. Wish he was still around today.
Catherine O'Hsra's eulogy of John still stands out. A bear of man with a heart of an elephant. Stood very tall for ecology, children and people. The pall he cast for comedy, pop culture, 80's cinema, etc., etc.; it can't be replaced by any other size and shape. We miss you and John Hughes, too.
+Brian Catron Bro, you and I are the same age, and I remember that day like it was yesterday too. The world has been a lot darker since John Candy passed away. I'm just glad that I grew up in a time when I could watch John Candy in action, and appreciate his work. Much love and peace to you, Sir. :-)
I was 11 when he died, and I don't even think I realized it until years later. I think I actually miss him more now that I'm older. I would love to see him alive to make just one more comedy that I could appreciate as an adult.
I too was 11 when he died.. I went to School that Friday morning and heard students whispering, When I asked what it was about they said "John Candy died of a heart attack". I was in TOTAL and complete SHOCK. Dumbfounded and in disbelief. I miss him to this day. I felt a part of my 80s Childhood vanish that day.
I grew up watching John Candy. He was one of my favorites. I was 10 almost 11 when he died. I was shocked. That was a first. When you're a kid no one is suppose to die. Not your family, favorite actors, favorite singers, no one. R.I.P. John.
Growing up watching John Candy movies makes me miss him a lot. A great fatherly figure. Planes trains and automobiles is my favorite of all time. Poignant and funny RIP
After watching this John Candy sucked as more juice out of life while he was alive than most people. 2 movies per year the cartoon show , the Argonauts, his family, and his community service certainly kept him busy. Sounds like a a amazing person.
He had the remarkable talent to make you fall in love with his characters. You were always rooting for john candy in a film or you weren't human. Always bringing the best out of you. I bet he was a brilliant laugh in person.
So glad i found this. John was really one of a kind. My favorite actor/comedian since i was little and i love watching interviews of people remembering what kind of person john was. He was really a gentle soul. They need to do a more recent tribute to john.
I totally love John Candy films , particularly Planes,Trains and Automobiles, and Uncle Buck. His hapless but totally well intentioned accident prone characters remind me of the great Norman Wisdom films made here in the UK by Rank in the 1960's . Full of pathos, hilarity and warmth . R
Thanks for uploading this special, John Candy was one of my favorite actors, talented in both comedy in drama. I heard he was a really nice guy off screen too. Of all the celebrities who have died, his was one of the saddest for me, his great movies and tv will be remembered forever, thanks for the great memories John.
1983 A friend Tommy, brought me to a party to meet some people. As he knew I had this theatrical movie niche. After I met John Candy, he and I spent the rest of the night laughing, ad libbing routines, Keystone Kop comedy talk, Laurel & Hardy stuff, Spaceball screenplay talk. I think we did this for nearly 8 hours non-stop. Ended up spending the next 2 weeks hanging around this guy and his friends. Had I known who he really was I probably would have considered to go out to California. Someone in the tribute said, "he knew how to bring out the true character in a part." I think that is just about right. Way to go Uncle Buck!
I consider myself lucky to have met John at a private function near where I lived at the time. I sat at a table with him, we talked and enjoyed a beer together. I will never forget that......…….ever!
gravedigr12 man, with you there. I got that film, too. His daughter, Jennifer, said that watching him in that film was the most like he was at his normal home life. Not much acting needed. Had to have been a nice guy. That drunk clown bit in Buck is hilarious! Gets punched and comes up with a dented nose.
I remember being a young teen I met him while we were staying in florida at Remington beach they were filming summer rental .. he was very nice I will. Miss him always great actor/comedian.
when i was a kid... john candy was my favorite actor.... before deniro, before pacino, before day-lewis and before dicaprio (my generational equal).... before i became a snob, john candy was simply my favorite because he made me smile. he made me feel safe. he made me feel warm.... he was my uncle, like he was so for so many others..... i miss him so much..
John is a canadian national treasure. Me and my 40 year old buddies go to my buddies cottage and a rule is you must watch at least 1 john candy movie. He has most if not all of them.
The first I saw John candy, was in home alone, and I loved him, after that I went and binged watched most of his films...it’s so sad to know that he would have been in so many great movies, but he left us young...RIP John 😔
I was a kid when he died and I will always remember I saw my dad wiping tears away at the sad news. Ive never seen him cry ever before . He never cries so that always stays in my memory.
He did so much great things great outdoors uncle buck cool running wally world theam park home alone one the list is endless. Imagine what he would be doing today for movies the man had a heart of gold but he kept everything in and in the end he was lost I think he was going through alot and life was moving very fast in those days. May he be resting in peace. Man God is get the show of his life he has got everyone who made us dance laugh sing even give us a heart felt movie.
i was young when i found out john was dead it was 1995 when i found our and i was just old enough to understand and i cried for a while and now i look back having seen more of his movies now and it makes me happy that i will always have them
He seemed like the type of man who wouldn't want anyone to be sad for very long but to remember the laughter and joy he brought. It still hurts though and it hurts more though because he reminds me of my best friend who was like a big brother to me. His name was Don and he recently passed at 48. It really hurts.

Notice how not one person has a bad word to say about John Candy. I wish there where 100 people like him. Turely one of kind.
Asshole owed me money!
John Candy made g-rated family movies everyone's favorites. One of the greats. RIP, John.
Mark Adkins And he never lost cool points with adults either. He had it both ways.
@@RealTime88absolutely real time he had it covered across the board
I was 14 years old in March of '94 when he passed away. I turn 36 years old a week from tomorrow, it will hurt just the same. RIP

That man will always be in my heart my favorite movie from john candy is the great outdoors he's one of my childhood memories.
This man passed on before I was even born, but by God do I adore him. Possibly one of my favourite actors of all time.

Jordan Turner I too was 10 almost 11. I was born in 83. Wish he could have hung out with us longer but he went home. 💛
I was 20, in college, and it tore me up. :(
Growing up watching John Candy movies makes me miss him a lot. A great fatherly figure. Planes trains and automobiles is my favorite of all time. Poignant and funny RIP
He will be forever missed! At least we have his movies to bring us laughter!
After watching this John Candy sucked as more juice out of life while he was alive than most people. 2 movies per year the cartoon show , the Argonauts, his family, and his community service certainly kept him busy. Sounds like a a amazing person.

I loved him in the most in Planes Trains & Automobiles & Cool Runnings!!! John was a gifted & funny soul. Make God laugh, John.
If there is a god he has Chris Farley, John Candy, etc. great talent.
john candy was so funny when he played uncle buck
His daughter Jennifer said that him being Uncle Buck was like just watching him at home, normally. I guess no acting was really needed there.
He would be 69 now god love him Rip John❤
How can you not want to be a better person after watching these tributes?
A view of friends growing in to their own legends together... thanks to the universe for the combination of dimension s that is...
