  • Ripping is not cheap, so, make sure that you get it right as wrong ripping can make soils much worse than they were before ripping
The beauty of 'Talk to Your Soil' lies not in its complexity but in its simplicity.
Today, I'm tickled to share a kernel of an idea that sprouted in my mind recently-a 'Talk to Your Soil' series destined for UA-cam and to be shared with my wonderful followers on LinkedIn. Imagine, diving deep into the earth beneath our feet and uncovering its secrets, together.
Now, I bet you're wondering, 'How's it gonna roll out?' Well, I'm musing over a three-part or maybe even a five-part series. Each episode will be crafted to not only entertain but enlighten, exploring the symbiotic relationship we share with soil-yes, that's right, it's a two-way convo!
Born out of the need to dig a little deeper, quite literally, into the ground beneath our feet. In a world where digital technology and remote sensing techniques promise to unveil the secrets of our earth, there lies a simple, albeit profound, truth - not all is as it seems from afar.

Brilliant. Thanks for the lesson. My next job is a double Tyne rip on some ground that stood for 25years

Love how you shove it down where the blades ran. What about where they did not.

“What a littl’ ripper’, John! WHAT IS the Maximum Depth You have ripped down-to, and sampled for ( say) metal elements?

Ripping was effective to ~ 80 cm (check on Penetrometer), we needed to brake extremely nasty compaction caused by bad management

Could anyone tell me if cross-ripping (say at a 30º or 45º angle) is better than a single pass? Doesn't the second pass compact partially what had already been loosened?

Good questions, but the answer is not straightforward because there are many parameters to consider, to get it right, but it CAN be done

purposefully not because it's spontaneously made and not produced, and then bits and pieces are pulled together

Your understanding of soil compaction, ripping and quality control is 'impressive' 😂
