- Celebrating Gordon Lightfoot, a tribute concert to the Canadian musician, in Toronto, on May 23, 2024.
Many performers included......Meredith Moon (Lightfoot’s youngest daughter), Serena Ryder, Burton Cummings, The Good Brothers, Blue Rodeo, Allison Russell (I got her name wrong sorry), The surprise appearance of Rush musicians Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson , Julian Taylor , Gordon Lightfoot’s old band, which starred the long-time rhythm section of bassist Richard Haynes and drummer Barry Keane, Sylvia Tyson, Tom Cochrane, Murray McLauchlan, William Prince and Kathleen Edwards
I wish Ron Sexsmith made it up on stage. He is truly Canada's best disciple of Gordon Lightfoot.
Enjoy!
Good evening my friend

Gord is the MAN☘️
I still can't believe we never dropped the flag for such a national treasure ....
Too true☘️
Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Blue Rodeo were incredible. I could listen to that all day.
Classy Canadians saluting another classy Canadian
Nice
Thanks☘️
We're truly blessed with awesome musical talent in this country. A wonderful tribute to a Canadian legend 😊
We were where...
Are they now...give me your recommendation
Kathleen Edward’s is a gift to my ears!
My personal favorite of the whole night was Steel Rail Blues! It was such an upbeat and professionally done version!
Amazing...first time I heard Geddy & tolerated his voice
Geddy has a fantastic voice...some of the crap out there we listen to.....his voice is different that's what makes it wonderful and perfect for Rush
This was wonderful. I could have seen Steppenwolf's John Kay adding something to this show, being an old Yorkville Villager at one time with the Sparrows, too bad he wasn't there.
Looks and SOUNDS like a good time. I wish i was there
Thank you for sharing this. Please add more when you can.
Thank you SO much John for posting this wonderful tribute concert!! Amazing musicians honouring a true Canadian legend! ❤😊
Thank you for the reportage, BTW Allison RUSSELL.
My mistake. I've put some cards up to describe her site etc...Thank YOU for watching
Thank you so much for sharing this. I miss Canada. I miss Gordon.
Next to the very last Rush gig in Toronto (to which I had tickets that I had to give away to keep a work commitment), this is the concert I am definitely kicking myself for not attending.
Very nice......Heaven received a Great singer and songwriter. Rest In Peace Gordon. Thank you for posting this John.
Keep your damn religious crap to yourself.
many thanks for sharing John, real labour of love to put that together (if you could more of Allison Russell /Black Day in July that would be even more wonderful too!)
Thank you for posting this, John. Not able to get up north or I would have loved to been there. Did get to see a Gordon tribute years ago and the old Hugh's Room. Annie Lindsay and Jason Fowler were there that night. Great show. Gordon's music is timeless.
If you could read my mind right now!
Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan are always written about being the greatest songwriters, ever. I can't dispute that because both are indeed really great songwriters. However, I think Gordon Lightfoot was one of the greatest songwriters around but he doesn't seem to be given the same status or level as Dylan and Joni Mitchell and I don't know why. He truely wrote so many, many great songs! Extremely great songs actually.
He is definitely one of our best. Ask one of our best, Ron Sexsmith! He is a MASSIVE Gord fan. Be well☘️
I can't understand why our radio station's don't play Gordon Lightfoot music 🎵🎶 to here
I agree☘️
This is really exceptional...but no Sarah Harmer?
And no Sexsmith neither!☘️
You forgot to mention, Aysanabee, and his story was so touching... The TO story failed to note both Indigenous performers! Could it be they simply don't know them? and if not, WHY? Two remarkable singer / songwriters up and coming! Thanks though, this is awesome!
Yes I am remiss that I didn't capture everytning on the night. Every performer was great!!!☘️
Where is Burt and Randy Bachman to here and Neil Young to
It was a big night and they couldn't squeeze everybody in
Where’s JP Cormier?
Another good question! ☘
No Neil Young?
Fair question☘️
Ron Sexsmith…a Canadian original wasn’t there? Shameful
Just thinking that, perhaps, Ron had a previous commitment?
No he wanted to attend. No way in for Ron....☘️
@0:15, i don't know who Kathleen Edwards is but good lord she butchered Carefree Highway! 'searching through the fragments of my dream suddered SHEEP' ... shuttered SHEEP??? (it's supposed to be dream shattered sleep.) and she gets the tempo wrong and puts the emphasis on the wrong syllables. From what i've seen there were some great performances at this show, but a few turkeys like hers too.
Gord very well knew who Kathleen Edwards is. Maybe you should have looked her up before attacking her. Gord certainly had a much better opinion of her than you apparently formulated after a couple of minutes.
Dude, the reason she sounded bad on this recording (as did everyone) is that it was recorded with a phone.
I’m sure that John McDermott, being a musician of stature himself, knew better than to post something with better quality and complete songs because it would quite quickly receive a strike down from UA-cam, especially since CBC holds the broadcast rights to the entire concert.
I enjoyed her interpretation honestly
Sorry about your taste in music.
It's an opinion☘️
Well said☘️
