Ok so a little bit of explaining before I get into this. The way loot chests work is that the loot inside is not generated until the chest is open, and you can see that because if you go into spectator mode you cannot open a chest whose loot was not generated yet. I was flying around in spectator mode and teleported to an ancient city, and in my excitement I started to try and open chests while still in spectator mode. All of them wouldn’t open because the loot couldn’t be generated because I was in spectator mode, all but one. There is one chest that never fails to spawn at the base of the portal structure, and in that chest there was a singular golden apple. That golden apple in that chest is generated when the structure is generated, so it’s definitely meant to be there for some purpose, but I couldn’t figure out why. Why do you guys think that apple is there?
Well there are also chests that contain multiple enchanted golden apples, so that’s another thing. Maybe the ancient builders decided to make these cities as a means of worshipping the warden and sculk blocks out of fear of getting on their bad side, while also trying to explore and discover more about them. It would also explain why these cities have naturally generated wool pathways. So they have a singular chest placed in front of a giant warden statue where they would place a golden apple as an offering of sorts for the warden. But this is just a wild guess.
I lost it when Dream did his "small percentage of viewers" line. Also, I absolutely love the implication that Dream was just in the middle of a manhunt, saw MatPat, stopped to theorize about the Warden, and continued running for his life.

If you look at the skulk shrieker texture on top, you can see that there are two souls that look similar to the particles you leave behind when you run/walk on souls sand with soul speed. Plus with the skulk catalyst, when a mob dies near it, the particles that occur are the same. The skulk and warden most definitely have something involved with souls and probably even the soul sand valleys in the nether

Hi, watching these ik they are old but anyways the ancient cities were never covered with skulk but like you say after the builders left the warden returned to the home it knew the best and dug in then began growing to protect the whole city since one can’t do it all, and because they left the warden making him feel abandoned he is angry at anyone no matter the intent.
Here's a detail, When you look at the Soul Shrieker, you'll see two souls twirling inside.. Also, if you kill any mob next to Sculk Catalyst ,or just the Sculk block, It grows more Sculk.
I think that the reason that the warden has sound could be that it can also be a warden to souls (like they put would sand in it to protect the sound of the dead from the nether, or it could be the sound of the enemies that it killed... just a thought

This pretty much confirms that the overworld is being corrupted by the two other dimensions, so the material that is in the Warden spawn area may be the result from the endportal/endworld corruption.

My theory: Did you guys notice that around the naturally spawned nether portals there is netherrack? This pretty much confirms that the overworld is being corrupted by the two other dimensions, so the material that is in the Warden spawn area may be the result from the endportal/endworld corruption.
