      For men, it'd be "Be taller, not so tall that you're intimidating. Be muscular, but don't be a 'gym bro'. Be sensitive, but also be strong and silent. Be with your family, but away working endless hours to provide for them. Be passionately interested in something, but don't share it with your girlfriend or you're 'mansplaining'."

    • @_rebecca_frailey
      @_rebecca_frailey 7 місяців тому +30

      I don’t see Sasha as that. Sasha is hurt to the point that she has swung to the far other side. She is defensive, anger-driven, uses large words in an attempt to make up for her lack of world experience. She has disassociated and thinks that hurting others and being feared is going to make up for the fact that the world isn’t how it should be. Sasha is not naïve, like Barbie, but she is far from liberated or open-minded. If you ever see the graph of how people react when exposed to new things, you see that typically people don’t swing to extremes when they have healed and moved on. Sasha is still grappling with the big feelings of finding sexism in the world and realising she doesn’t have the power right now to change it. She’s further along than Barbie, but not as powerful as she claims to be.

    • @sarahberkner
      @sarahberkner 6 місяців тому +5

      @@_rebecca_frailey She seems to strongly believe what she's saying and not saying it out of anger (although not being nice to Barbie either). She's not "grappling with the big feelings of finding sexism in the world", what bothers her and a lot of real women the most is how sexualized women are in our culture sometimes. When she gets older, she's not going to wake up and realize she can't do as much because she's female, because that's not true. But she will hopefully learn that yelling at people and insulting them doesn't usually win them over to your side.

    • @_rebecca_frailey
      @_rebecca_frailey 6 місяців тому +4

      @@sarahberkner I think we’re on the same page here. I agree she will not wake up and change her mind because that is not true. The urge to fight everyone she comes across and yelling and insulting them is the indicator that she’s not completely come full circle from her exposure to sexism though. When she’s really finished adjusting, she will still be a force to be reckoned with, similar to how she is in the end of the movie. She will not suddenly begin think all is right with the world and there was never any issue with women’s place in the world. But I would argue Sasha is in bondage to her feelings throughout the first portion of the movie, and the main indicator is how she lashes out and attacks everyone around her. People who have moved on from traumatic or upsetting circumstances still fight for things they believe in, but don’t lash out or attack those who are trying to support them(like her mom).

    • @victoria139
      @victoria139 4 місяці тому +2

      Well the thing is the girls are at an age where they’re essentially rejecting femininity because they associate all girly things with sexism (most girls go through a I hate pink and I’m not like other girls phase) and through the movie she realizes that Barbie and traditionally feminine things are not the cause for sexism and she was shoehorning other people into stereotypes at the same time as being mad that people did that to her. I think it’s an important part of the film to show like how girls views of gender roles and who they are changes as they grow up.

    Barbie is a really enjoyable movie ruined by its dumb feminist theme. The premise of the movie is "What if women treated men the same way that men treat women?" Which makes the whole movie a lie because the way men are treated in the movie is nothing like the way women are supposedly treated today. We're supposed to see the set-up of the movie as a role reversal of men and women. But we don't live in a society where women aren't allowed to work, or where they only serve at the pleasure of men, or where they have no important role in society. Yet the movie would like us to believe that the way that men are treated in the movie is the same way that women are actually treated today. The whole thing is a false metaphor .

      Well if you watch the movie, a man told Ken that in the real world, they are better at hiding the patriarchy nowadays. I mean, just look at who rule your countries. Who gets paid more, the male lead of a movie or the female lead etc

    • @kalimd8393
      @kalimd8393 5 місяців тому +5

      @@qiqisongs I'd be questioning your simplified view of the world.
      Firstly, patriarchy alludes to a gender imbalance creating inequality and injustice. For the last 100 years, men have thrived in entrepreneurship and create businesses at a rate 80-85% v 14-15% on an annual basis, therefore, there are more men in business and in senior roles. Men tend to create businesses they are interested in, and women tend not to work for such companies out of having different interests.
      Secondly, the finance industry is 70% male. The construction industry is 99% male. However the beauty industry is 89.6% female, and the service industry 62.59% female. Industries males dominated are considered Patriachal but those dominated by women are not Matriachal. Can you make that make sense?
      Thirdly, Feminism deliberately miscommunicates history to push its political agenda. For instance, women didn't have the right to vote, Which is true, but Feminists do not explain that no (working class) people - man or woman - had the right to vote up until 1913 in the UK and around 1870-1920 in the US. Pre 19th-20th century you had to own land or property for the right to vote.
      Id highly recommend reading some history books. And actually, look at the data regarding your other inaccurate points.

      People that get this opinion obviously never played with Barbie’s. Which will mostly be males as intended. 😉 Barbies are truly for girls. It is a girls world. Ken was created for Barbie not the other way around. The movie gave some type of context to it, playing into modern feminism ideals however the entire creative aspect behind Barbie was always feminism. People should stop taking things so seriously n deeply. Yes, there is a message. However… it’s Barbie. They are just Barbie. Barbie girl n a Barbie world. Not real life. Feet n a permanent arch for heels. Laugh, cry, enjoy, n move on.

      i think it is supposed to represent the way women were treated decades and decades ago, no house of their own, no job, "dumb", because at the end of the movie the narrator says something like "maybe one day the kens will be as important as women are now in the real world", because even if the kens have jobs now, they still cant have the most important jobs in barbieland, their world is still evolving, its satire. barbieland is still not treating everyone equally, and thats the point.

      @@hadaniss8466 Great story, and it seems you have been indoctrinated as you made the presupposition without research of how 'women were treated decades ago'. But its a misreading of history. Its missing a massive proponent. Free will. Women have always worked, just not in the same capacities or fields as men. Regards to the past and opportunity. Feminists purposefully miscommunicate that we lived in Feudal societies for centuries. In order to have a home, you needed land, and in order to gain land and property you needed to provide military service. Women did not serve in the military, hence they didnt typically own property, and in 2023 women make up less than 1% of the military workforce, so this isnt a narrative of 'oppression' it is choice. Regards to having the 'most important jobs.' In the UK men have for over 100 years created businesses at around a rate of 80-85% to women 10-15% on annual basis. If you feel that 80-85% of businesses should be forced to have women on boards, when there are less women in business and a smaller talent pool, because of their gender, then that yours perspective but personally i like the idea of meritocracy. And there are alot of other misconceptions flying around. Look this up! The most popular is that women never had the right to vote. But the truth is that no (working class) person, 99% of society, had the right to vote until circa 1913 in the UK, and the US 1920. To be clear - no man or woman who was working class had the right to vote, but you didnt know that, and most people dont. And an alternative narrative has been forced and indoctrinated on society to make the argument of 'patriachy' more compelling. They rely on society not doing any research! This is what makes feminism more of an extremist group than a force for good. And films like Barbie are propaganda and hugely divisive especially when your telling 10s of millions of people women are oppressed.

    I think this movie views society with tunnel vision and tends to generalize, but I think it captures an essence that’s baroque and artistic in a way of silly humor and cliches while telling an enriching tale about the lives of men and women with a great script and powerful performances with so many layers! Ryan gosling needs this Oscar! Greta and Noah need this Oscar!
