hey, thanks, it worked for me too. It looks like it will last until my new part/element comes in from eBay I for one very much appreciate your video and you desire to help people out...
@@billgianzin710 I DID IT. And YES! it WORKS! I only put in contact both ends, very carefully. Here, the photos facebook.com/OFELIADURANDEFELACO/posts/10157328286534823?notif_id=1574733370155295¬if_t=feedback_reaction_generic
Clever. I just had a burner go out, and I considered soldering the break. I ended up buying a new one because I was concerned about longevity. Good to know you're getting some good time out of the repair. Next time, I'll try and save the money.
I just tried this on my stove. Thanks for the info! I would love an update though on how long the fix lasted for you. Either way I am grateful to be able to cook another day, without spending another dollar.
Sadly no, I made it 8 months then it snapped again, then after that, it was weekly until I finally replaced the element. But I use that burner everyday, often several times a day, my range gets a lot of use. I was grateful for the extra time.
I'm going to try this reconnect trick, just to make sure that it's the broken element, and not the switch also. It's possible that the element snaped when I was picking the stove top up and flipping it over, even though I handled it very carefully. These nichrome wires get very brittle as they age, kind of like me and my bones. And I can't shove my bones back together. The doc does that, at great expense.
Well, hell to the yeah! GE doesn't believe in making replacement parts (at least the ones I've needed for my high end expensive refrigerator and range, after 10 years. Some are available but not the ones I need including the heating element on my range. I figured it had to be repairable and I found this! Bravo, sir! I was about to reverse engineer a 3 way valve for my refrigerator. All they did was change the wiring configuration for the newer models but they won't disclose that info. Luckily, I found the last one in the country on Ebay.
I'd say Well done there. If you get low voltage in your area that would cause the element to burn out - as the voltage drops the Amperage will then spike and that's why the element burns out
That's not correct. If the voltage goes down the current will also go down. In a resistive circuit like that the current is directly proportional to the voltage. It's basic Ohms Law. Current equals voltage divided by resistance.
I like the way you think. I made it a little more permanent by putting a drop of moltent brass on the connection. Nothing to loose, right? So far so good.
Awesome temporary fix. I have Whirlpool 30inch cooktop one of the element has burned wire. The part is no long available from Whirlpool no way to find it. I am going to follow your video to fix my. I wonder if I can get used one to cut metal wire to clamp it on my element instead of extending.
To make the contact better, clamp the crimped part with a small spring from a ball pen. Cut the end of the spring off and clamp it onto the crimped part. DISCLAIMER: ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE POWER BEFORE ANY WORK!!!
I notice the round insulation material around the edges of these burners tends to crack. Yours are cracked like mine. Is that bad? I didn't notice you repairing those round circles on the edges, just the coils. . . Otherwise, mine work fine. I'm just worried about those hairline cracks in the gray edge material. I noticed it when I had to replace the cooktop.
It is not a computer that "controls everything". Each burner is controlled by it's own infinite switch. If you have changed the resistance to the coil, it should be negligible. It might not control at exactly the same settings but we don't run our knobs that way anyway, they aren't even really marked between low and high.
i dont think spot welding would work as the elements are almost pure carbon. and brazing would melt free when it got red hot so, unfortunately just a temporary fix
Just tried this.....It worked....I found the element gets much hotter and heats up super fast so l ll use this as a temp fix...Just wondering how safe it is to use...
The reason the repair shows up glowing hotter, you have increased the resistance at that spot. A poor connection because of not working with clean bright metal will do this. Not sure if some sanding the connection spots would work, along with soldering.
My element looked normal. I ran around the filament with a ohmmeter and half way around I lost continuity. I had to push the element abit to see the break. Quick wire pinch and all fixed.
I got a question?today i replaced a burned element with a new one.put all wiring back and everything.turned on oven and my new element is workin good but suddenly another element across it back one suddenly caused a spark and i turned off that burner right away..my question is why would that element that was perfectly fine just sparked..i didnt touch it only did a continuety test earlier..im soo confused :( so basicallly i replaced front right one and suddenly the back right one sparked..im hoping it didnt burn out but i have a feeling it did..my question is why it burned out ??
Simon Salgado thanks for reply..i was told it could be oil or dirty that fell on the coil while i was puting the glass top back on..i didnt think it was that sensitive but lesson learned hahaha
yeah, these are very sensitive burn out a lot on models 10 to 15 years old always smart to make sure they're all clean when you fix one like this guy says to or replace one so your not having to replace/fix them all.
@@blues24u very much like those high power halogen tubes used in work lights, outdoor floods, and older floor lamps. I've had a bulb or two explode within a fixture. THAAAANKS! I was thinking on buy a new one, but I prefer to try fix everything before. I will try it! My oven has 9 years, and the oven still works
it will not work becase the element is fried .The only way to repair it is rewind it with nikelcrome wire or new part

You just saved me $700 or $80 service call. Bug thanks!
Wow...basically exactly what I was looking for. Great video! I see someone said melt some brass onto the connection...wonder what else would work
Solder or brass will not work as the ring gets far to hot bright ferrous is far to hot for brass.

Isn’t there any other way I can connect the 2 by means of welding or any other method besides just “pinching” them together?

You could never solder it. That much heat would melt the solder again the first time you tried to use it. This type of repair is only a temporary fix.
