hello, if you had the same issue with front dual burner stuck on high - did you replace the "infinite" switch that looks different than rest of switches & has a long metal plate on one side like the one shown in the video? OR did you replace the burner switch itself? I am confused between two switches. Thanks
Super helpful video. Wrong part arrived in the mail, but thanks to you I was at least able to get far enough to identify the problem and one step closer to a working stovetop.
@@WordofAdviceTV Your very welcome, you explain things in a way everyone can understand, that helps a ton bud. I wish I had all the money you've saved people over the years with your videos. You have a great weekend to.
Do you live with me ? Because I just upgraded to a flat top stove. Wife likes it :). Second hand btw. One of the burners were disconnected I fixed it with better spade. ( high jack professional) But the switch keep staying on. And you came in and game me the solution. Thanks pal
Haha that's great man! Glad to hear that the video came at a good time for you. 😄 It's a nice stove, I am sure you are enjoying it! (besides burning things on high heat) I agree with getting them second hand too, that's the way to go! 👍
Unplugging the 240 volt plug is an excellent use for mechanic's gloves (better grip AND electrical insulation for your hands.) While you're in there replacing the switch, have your S.O. clean up those plastic parts under the panel (especially those grungy plastic nuts). Thanks for the video.
Hey Jay, I love your show man, the absolute best of YT for HVAC and I watch a lot of them as I’m in trade school now. I think it would be very cool to compile the different sounds that components make and compare to the sounds they make when they’re broken or breaking down (rough motors, bearings, compressor etc.) God Bless brother!
Hey Logan, I'm happy to hear you enjoy the channel! I actually had that idea before too but there were just so many variables involved that I dropped the project. Noise issues tend to vary quite a bit from case to case. For example, a rattling noise in a furnace could be caused by the inducer motor, blower motor, bottom metal cover piece, the ducts, or who knows what else (a stuck bird, bat, or squirrel are some odd ones I've seen). 😅 I do appreciate the suggestion though! Good luck in school, become a legend! God bless you and yours as well!
This is the best video for this fix I've seen -- thank you! One question: when I look up the part on repairclinic or deyparts, there are three control switches listed for my GE JSP47SH2SS (two "surface element switches" and an "inf switch") -- which one do I need for my front left burner that doesn't turn off? Edit: I see you directed me to the part I needed with a red arrow on the diagram (1:54) and highlighted the part number (1:56). AMAZINGLY HELPFUL! Thanks again!
Hahaha I love the pun Eddy! All is well on Big Island my friend. God is good. We are being asked to move out of our rental by the end of October (homeowner moving back in) so we will be getting busy with the move pretty soon here. Always good to see you in the comments! May God bless you and yours. Have a fantastically wonderful rest of the week!
Great video! Have you had a situation where the electric range was hot to the touch when the oven was on? I mean the range was so hot that it could burn you when the oven was on.
You are an excellent communicator and teacher. I have a question regarding our Whirlpool range -Model:RF362LXSQ. Front left burner was going but not alternating off to on as usual, and as we got the repair man he seems to have fixed it and now it’s pulsating again, but it takes about 30 seconds in intervals. First hot, then it goes off for 30 seconds, then it comes back again. Is the 30 seconds interval normal time? When my wife called the technician again to enquire, he said the settings are in the manufacturer and can’t be changed.. it either works or it doesn’t.
Thank a lots Bro! I like your tip by directly transfer from old switch to new switch wires! I just done mine with different model. You must enjoying living HA now!?? Inland OHIO too much snow ❄️😅now!!!!
you remind me of the two mushrooms that go into a bar and buy everyone one a drink. Why you ask. Simple, because they are a fungi! 🤦♂ Enjoyed your video and shared with my dear Joan so maybe she'll do this repair instead of me - ha! God bless! 🇨🇱 🇺🇸
I've had the same failure both front burners of my Whirlpool stove where the burners have stayed on super nova orange glow with the control on a low setting like 1 or 2. The first time I burned a pan of mushrooms and set off the smoke alarm while I was getting the grill ready for some steaks and boiled over a pan of brats last weekend. I'm surprised there isn't a recall or some warning on these switches, or a better fail-safe design. This could be dangerous!
Don't currently have this problem but now I'm equipped in case I do. (Assuming it can happen with traditional electric ovens with the metal burners?) Thanks!
It's good to be in the know-how. 🙂 Like my grandpa used to say, "knowledge is never a burden, learn as much as you can!" Oh yes, this can happen even with the older models, although I firmly believe the old ones were of much better, durable quality. That being said, with those metal spiral burners, usually it is the receptacle which it plugs into that starts falling apart and needs to be replaced.
Thank you! I try to make it look and sound good, though it doesn't always work. 😅 My wife is my camera person, using a Sony A7sIII. For sound we use Rode micro wireless microphones. (they rock!) And the editing is done on Adobe Premiere Pro. Amazon links to the equipment I use should be in the video description as well. 👍
Aloha man, too bad you are in Hawaii! Do you have anybody to suggest (handyman A/C) in Rochester MN? My system works but does not cool very well only 12-14 degrees difference between IN/OUT air. I was told that the freon is fine I must have a restriction in the evaporator so I need to change the entire system! The only thing I remember is the R22 reading was 42 on the low side, the high side I don't remember but the tech. said it was ok...Thank you so much!
Great video. My GE oven is just like that one and it has the exact same problem. It also has the hidden bake element, would you please consider doing a video on how to replace that on that same GE model? Thanks much. Mike
Thank you Mike! Well shucks, it sounds like these GE ranges have a manufacturer defect then if you are having the same issue. I would love to make a video on how to replace the hidden bake element but this video was filmed in Minnesota during our visit there... Now we are back in Hawaii so by the time I get the chance to film a video on the topic, I am thinking you may no longer need it. 😅

My left front burner was used last night and all of a sudden won’t completely turn off and but not stuck on high . It’s like the button won’t catch to click off so it’s touchy and that keeps the “hot surface light on” that could be the same part too ? Mine are on the back of the unit

Hey jay i have two questions regarding the evaporation coil on my ac. Would i be able to spray the coil with alcohol to clean it? I always clean it with a garden hose. [It's a window unit]. But i thought that alcohol would do a good job of disinfecting the coil with a combination of the hose. My second question is that my evaporator coil has a little bit of ice on it. It's so little that i can still see the color of the copper. Is it normal to have a little bit of ice or is it not normal? I already watched the video (8 reason why your ac is freezing up). I didn't find any issues in the video that my unit has. Thanks. By the way, I've been watching and utilizing your advice to service my ac's for some time now and i love your videos.

how do you know it is the switch and not the element? i have a sumsung and it stays on all the time ,but I saw other video and they replace the element.
we had a repair guy here today who didn't look at anything. he plugged the range back in to confirm what he had told him that the one burner would not shut off, then told us we needed a $250 or so control panel...not just a switch.
Aloha David! Sorry I have not gotten back to you until now. I have not been on UA-cam during the weekend as things got busy here. I answered the first batch of comments and only came back to answer more now. Your comment probably came in after I already left the first time.

Yes, I will try to make a video like that later on. Thank you for the suggestion! Likely either the burner element needs to be replaced or the switch/control board is not sending power to it. I have also seen the hot wire going to the element burned off. (likely a loose connection caused high heat) That one is easiest to fix. Simply snip off the burnt part, put on a new connector and all done!
Man I had my outlet put on the wall behind the oven. I cannot stand it being on the floor what would happen if somebody knocked over a bucket of water when I wasn't home
I actually had the same question when I first heard the name! I hope that you don't mind me copying and pasting the explanation from Wikipedia as they explained it better than I would have 😄 "An infinite switch, simmerstat, energy regulator or infinite controller is a type of switch that allows variable power output of a heating element of an electric stove. It is called "infinite" because its average output is infinitely variable rather than being limited to a few switched levels."
Wow! Awesome exactly what I needed thank you so much very helpful.
Excellent way of explaining each and every point and all possibilities clearly. Really appreciable.

I actually had the same question when I first heard the name! I hope that you don't mind me copying and pasting the explanation from Wikipedia as they explained it better than I would have 😄
"An infinite switch, simmerstat, energy regulator or infinite controller is a
type of switch that allows variable power output of a heating element of
an electric stove. It is called "infinite" because its average output is
infinitely variable rather than being limited to a few switched levels."
My stove top switch won't turn the burner off
You are making unplugging too complicated. Just pull the stove out from the wall and slide a skinny person in back to unplug it.
its a lot easier to just flip the breaker off, then back on when your done.
