iammyantinerd I use RO for 3 years mixing it a 5:1 ratio with tap water in gallons to lower my PH. My RO I buy is in the 7.2 range while my tap is 8.8 mixing my water lowers it to a 7.6 and driftwood does the rest to get it down to 7.0 in my Amazonian tank.

Thanks for a, yet again, superb video! Just bought your book, and made a overhead sump from a planter box, for my sons 250 l tank. I modified it though and added a trickle tower to it. A lot of good ideas in that book! My creation works as a charm but I need to work at the looks... Now I need to build something else for my 540 l. I recently came back to the hobby after a 20 year pause, and your channel has really boosted my love for it. Thank you! Greetings from Sweden, P.

I am curious to see a video about how you made the top glass piece and individuals lids for this tank. Do you already have a video that covers this? If so, please link it. Great videos and you've certainly convinced me to build my own show tank to save TONS of money. I'm looking into the direct injection method of applying silicone for an all glass tank at the moment. Have you experimented with this method of applying to silicone to your glass tanks? A video on that would also be great for the community. Keep up the good work, and thanks for sharing all of your experiences and knowledge.

I know this comment comes late, but when you mentioned running power to the other side of the room to run on your lights for the space and the aquarium I thought I'd make a suggestion for your future projects. Since you seem to be a lot like me in that you change things in your environment often, I would suggest you check on some smart home devices like those made by Insteon. These devices are easy to install and allow you to turn on your lights and devices without having to install traveler wires. You're using digital signaling on your AC line to control micro devices installed behind your existing switches and fixtures.

Can you make a video explaining the process of curing and readying a piece of driftwood collected from somewhere in a video? I'm looking to collect a piece of driftwood, but have little clue where to start (what type of wood makes good driftwood and which to avoid, what to look for in potential driftwood [already assuming it's good for use in an aquarium, what things would make it useless for use in an aquarium - e.g., bugs, debris], how to cure and ready it for an aquarium, etc). Thanks!

I enjoy the longer video, you mentioned you would have done the sump differently, but you did not say what you would have changed? Also, if the filter sock was clogging then you could just get one that has a larger micron size right? I like the filter sock idea, I would think the sock would make maintenance easier. When you pull the dirty sponge out of the sump the waste will be dispersed into the water column just by handling it, but the sock keeps it all contained right? Thanks!!!

Also, where do you source your glass and acrylic? You said $1,550 CAD for the acrylic for your 375g tank, and I'm having a hard time finding acrylic (or glass for that matter) at the price you suggested. One place wanted almost that for one 84" x 36" sheet! I'm sure this will vary based on region, country, etc. but any potential sources that you know of that I have not come across in my research thus far would be very much appreciated!

To be fair I wondered about the door too... I think what puts people off, is doors are normally mounted on a typical door jamb, and a door always opens in the direction opposite the jamb. so if it was a normal store bought door frame, not seeing it would imply the door opens into the room, and if it opens out you would expect to see the door recessed into the wall, and the walls of the jamb would be visible. Amazing videos, I look forward to catching up on them.

hi Joey I noticed that your wier (if that is how you spell the black box covering thr plumbing) only takes or skims water from the surface, yet you mention that you dont need to siphon the bottom of the tank. Does it mean that fish waste in the bottom of the tank doesn't stay in the bottom and is totally absorbed by the wier? Thank you, really appreciate it if you can answer this question

Have you considered a swirl filter for the solids before the sponge? It could be as simple as just turning a valve for a few seconds to clean the most solids. You could even make the overflow for the drip system grab the solids from the bottom to automatically empty it for you.

    Great tank!
I have a question nothing related to your great fish tank, for several month I've been noticing planarian in my tank, they are small like a hair thickness the size of a ( / ) white color, any idea how to get ride of them? I cut the feeding schedule, change 100 of the water. I still see them

Just stumbled across your channel and I am amazed! I was even more pleased when I discovered you're a fellow Nova Scotian!
I only have 26g right now but I plan to have bigger. What is the best fish store you can recommend in the Halifax area? 1 fish 2 fish? Learning a lot thanks!!
