    What a fantastic video! Rudi makes it look so easy. Anyone that's taken a stab at siliconing a tank together can attest as to the art and skill needed to create functional and clean seams. Love the content my friend!

    That was pretty cool to watch. Always amazes me that a little silicone has enough strength to hold all that glass, let alone water together.

    I have a question, why did he use two panels for the bottom of the aquarium? Creating a seam in the center... is this considered a false bottom and then another sheet of glass the entire length of the aquarium is added on top? I know ELOS aquariums are double glazed/bottom sheets of glass.

    • @seafriendlyreef
      @seafriendlyreef  2 роки тому +3

      I have to ask Rudi again but I think the tank has much more stability this way. For aquariums over a certain size, this is often done to prevent the weight from breaking the glass.

    Awesome video! Planning on building something similar myself (~8'). I get the concept of using 2 sections of glass for the floating base. But, I'd rather have a double thickness base myself, so I think I'll have a bottom layer in 2 sections and an upper layer in 3 sections. Hopefully, that'll help add a little flex/shock-absorption if it's required... I just wondered about what type of bracing you added afterwards? And did you brace the bottom of the tank too? Many Thanks!

    Isn't it worth making a V shaped jig (like a saw horse) to hold the glass sides.? When you place the glass in the V jig they should sit together in the bottom of the V without you holding them until they are set.glued. If you make the jig V more than 90degs you can shim up the glass plates until they are perfectly 90 degs. this seems a better technique esp if you are on your own.

    Hi bro. Very good job. I wanted to ask you what is the type of silicon sealant (black coloured one) you use for this type of big tanks. I ask this because i have a similar big tank in my home which is right now leaking from the bottom panels. Presently the tank can hold only half the tank. if i make it full, it starts to leak. The tank have a height of 4-5 feer approx. what you recommend. Thanks in advance.

    I was surprised seeing the side glasses rest on the base and the side panels siliconed the from their sides. But I guess it makes sense since with the water pressure there're less shearing forces if the sides were attached on top of the bottom glass.

    • @danieltaylor757

      The bottom glass was installed after the rear glass and 1 end was installed. The sides and end glass where not sitting on the base, the base glass was installed inside the 4 glass walls
