  • Its now been 3 months (longer in fact) since the ALMAC boat loader was fitted to our concept canopy roof rack. In this video I revisit this Australian made addition to our 79 series Twin Cab Landcruiser.
By and in large, the loader performed well; the operator could have used a bit more intuition when initially setting up the "ropes" connecting the boat to the winch cable and the boat to the rear of the loader.
Some more diligence would likely have prevented a winch motor fail and a few choice expletives. Life and travelling in the back streets would not be as exciting without some inadvertent unfortunate break downs, right?
Anyhow, I run through what happened and how I have now overcome the errors of my prior ways :(
I also talk about the rod holder that was initially fitted to the ALMAC boat loader. It was awkward, for sure. But I never thought it would "catch" on anything, being so high from the ground.
But .... those Old Telegraph Track tracks are scoured into the earth (or some of them) so much so that even the cruiser was dwarfed by the rising walls either side of some tracks.
My fix brings the rod holder much closer to the vehicle. Of course, no certainty it still will not get fouled ....
I mention a lockable cap for the 100mm pvc tube. I ordered this from ADI, they have these in various configurations, but the link to the cap I ordered is:

This cap cost AUD$44.33 + delivery. Delivery to Bargara from Victoria took less than 5 days :)
