According to several reporters, eyewitnesses attributed at least some of the gunfire into the crowd and consequent deaths after the explosion to panic by US troops.
I am truly amazing at these families. I watch on tv the chaos and madness of that day and knew in my heart that what was going on was wrong.
What gets me is Kirby claimed at a press briefing he never saw any chaos, I guess he was hiding some place, or ignored what was happening

As a Pennsylvanian, I'm ashamed and embarrassed that Democrat Dean felt it necessary to, as expected and as usual, to shift blame from this administration. These families have been disrespected, dishonored, and disillusioned enough without making bullshit excuses. Gold Star father Mark Schmitz said it best.

While I’m not a liberal on almost any level politically, but I also noted that the ranking member clapped after the first aggrieved family member had finished speaking. Sadly, Washington DC has become the home of a Uni-Party that is controlled by the Military Industrial Complex just as President Eisenhower predicted in his exit speech. You blame Biden but I ask you this Who was the president that drew down the number of troops in Afghanistan before he left office? Who was the President that went behind the Afghans back to negotiate with the Taliban? Which president was it that went against his own foreign policy to delegitimize the Afghan Government? Trump did that. I'm not saying Biden doesn't have fault as well but let's be clear it's no way you can put this on just one person or one president when we were there for 20 years over 4 presidents.

I hope these families and all families from all our military casualties find peace. What happened was a disgrace and I even knew it was the wrong way to evacuate even though I was trained in Civil Engineering. In my opinion, it should have ended at the secure military base. Nothing that we say can replace those lives. All we can say is: From a grateful nation we are indebted with a cost that can never be repaid. They paid the ultimate price for our freedom. As a “Cold War” Veteran with PTSD, the price of serving in the military can be high. I would do it all over again because I'm a patriot and I followed orders. With much respect! 🇺🇸🫡🪖
Our military's leadership has been flagging for a long time.
We've had bad Commanders-in-Chief before, but had general officers who were good, but in today's all volunteer military admitting an error is a career killer because politics has become the norm. There have always been politics in the military, it has happened in every war and worse during so-called peaceful times. But the people who were in charge in Afghanistan and in the White House during August 2021 were, in my estimation, the worst combination of officers and politicians that have ever led this country's military. They should all be in prison for the withdrawal plan and execution. Every general, admiral and civilian in the chain of command should be spending the rest of their lives in Leavenworth Federal Prison.

We didn't just "withdraw from Afghanistan as ordered by Joe Biden," we retreated and ran for our lives. In the process, we got our asses handed to us and the door slammed shut. In fact we got the mighty Afghan/Taliban boot buried deep in our butts while we ran.
We abandoned everything and enough late-model military hardware and equipment, to instantly establish Afghanistan, as a world-ranked military power and now a U.S. arms dealer. We also firmly established ourselves (in the eyes of our enemies and allies) that the "great and mighty military of the United States of America," is no longer invincible but cowardly and may be relied upon to flee from a fight and fly away in jets (the helicopters they'll leave behind for us.)
This isn't true of course, but just one of Biden's many blunders.
As an American citizen and patriot, I am deeply embarrassed and ashamed and feel like crawling under a rock. At least I'm not being buried in the dirt like many of our brave men and women. Remind me never to "join-up" or volunteer to become an American soldier (or a politically expendable pawn.)
No one questions the fact that the U.S. needed to get-out of Afghanistan, but the way it was done was simply inexcusable and shameful beyond measure.
Just getting rid of Joe, just doesn't seem good enough and I begin to understand the sentiments behind the fate of Oliver Cromwell. (His dead body was dug-up, left to hang all day and then beheaded. His head was then set on a pole and publicly displayed over a decade!)

George W. Bush put our military into Afghanistan for 20 years... and also into Iraq. There were no 9/11 terrorists from either country... and no weapons of mass destruction. Bin Laden was found and killed in Pakistan. 7000 of our soldiers died during those two wars... wars that we should not have fought. 4.5 million overall died during the war on terror. Bush is viewed as a hero. I grieve for all of those people... and for the 13 who died during the withdrawal.
