I'm coming to the realization that Arty wishes the ladder was run like one of these old school team houses - everyone trying to get better, and if you all in or cheese at all you get your gamer card revoked
Which is based. Everyone on the ladder are trash who Flood the ladder with inflated MMR and don't belong at high rankings. People play lazily and win, complete trash
@@Gris00 That's why Ladder doesn't mean much. I see some literal S rank players who are legit so bad mechanically but they just abuse. Also the system is broken when players own multiple accounts and keys. Not to mention eveyone sandbags on purpose to get easy wins.
seriously underrated channel...really enjoy the diversity of your content and especially these live commentaries on old historical vods...im scbw lifer since 2008...and it is fascinating to have an insider's perspective on the best matches, and in addition, to have a closer look at the detailed landscape of "The Scene" (and behind the scene...haha). respect. glhf
There are more videos like this out there I believe. That channel is a genuine goldmine. Artosis was doing fantastic job back then. This is s beautiful piece e-sport history.
So cool seeing a blast from the past. I hade no idea about the internet cafe's back then and how they really contributed to excel and make SK such a dominating force in the Starcraft scene
Yeah man, and I am pretty sure that the South Korean Government is the only Government to actually fund E-Sports or gaming events which is insane. Truly a gamers dream
CRT monitors bigger than half the desk, ashtrays on each side of the keyboard with mountainous piles of cigarette butts, piss jugs in the bottom desk drawers. This is leet.
God i remember playing with smuft back in the day he would always say “some miss” when a mistake was made. Smuft was so good at the game, I think he beat yellow in a huge league broadcast on TV. Smuft I think was banned from Korea for trying if sneak weed in or out of Korea. I could be wrong very long ago.
We also used to play RTCW: ET a ton. Scrimmages for 3-5 hours, then another 3-6 hours of pubs before and after. It's just not efficient, and in fact, better to watch top level replays and learn new methods and other ways. Felt the same when we used to grind C&C: Red Alert 2 or playing musical instruments. Too much grinding ingrains bad habits, and you start focusing on perfecting some set methods you have in your mind that are "the best" and end up experimenting less (which, after you have built up a good amount of the fundamentals, experimenting is far more important in the long run)
Nick, I really like your history of SC videos. I am really curious how did you and Artosis felt with life in SKorea and the food, and the people? can you sometimes add a few anecdotes about it? Also: I really believe the history of the rise of SC/Esports in SKorea should deserve some movie or maybe in worst case Korean drama. 😂 Seriously, I enjoy your history lessons, take care.
you are completely right about korean workculture, they try soo hard it starts being toxic to their health in many ways, balance is very important too, but you simply cant deny that their laser focus culture of being the best works out because they are the best at many things already, amazing hardworking people
They're literally working themselves to extinction. Not only is South Korea the only OECD nation in the world with a birth rate below 1.0 (roughly 2.0 to 2.1 is needed just to maintain a population and economy so people can retire and so on), last year's number was .68, 1/3 of the US and 1/2 of other countries with a declining pop like Japan. And Seoul is even worse, at .55. And this is after the government spent 300 billion in the last two decades to fix it. It's their biggest political issue right now. It's insane. It doesn't even pay off, because their productivity rate per person is one of the worst out of all advanced economies, bad enough the IMF did a whole study on it.
My best win of all time was beating Mondragon. I cheesed a lurker drop and he cussed me out for it calling me names 😂. I'd practice against froz and testy. Couldn't beat either. This was before the first WCG came to Cali. If I remember Froz beat Boxer and Testy did pretty good too
That's crazy, I didn't realize a foreigner had beat boxer in a tournament. Granted it was one game in groups and boxer won the whole tournament but that's still an impressive feat
A build with a timing attack that is win or lose but more involved than basic cheese. A 4 pool is just cheese, it's I guess technically all in as well since if it fails game over, but usually when they refer to all in build it's something like lurker rush vs terran, or ling flood vs protoss. Also a strategy can turn all in, like a zerg going muta vs terran isn't all in, but if they keep making muta and stop teching it can turn into an all in situation where the zerg either needs to win with the muta or if the terran holds they will for sure win
Anyone ever remember WGTour's paid league WSL which lasted a couple seasons? Or PGTour by chance? Nice walk down memory lane lol While we're at it, anyone remember Hovz or whatever is name was, Terran player on the US national team for a bit? Guy was an asshole, lol
these beefed up tasteless thumbnails are hilarious
Brotoss fr
What do you mean? Tasteless clearly edited the images to be smaller than he actually is to make it more believable.
CLICKED for the trhumbnail lol hes going crazy with them
If someone else is making them it is hilarious😂
If he makes them himself it's cringe 😬

You are just now figuring this out?
All it would take is the community to shift to a 3rd party ladder system... top players in Aoe2 community did it successfully back in the day..

The nerds are working hard on AI upscaling technology so we can someday see boxer micro in 4k
Couldn't you just load an older patch into SC: Remastered and run the relevant replay and see it that way? Remastered has 4K and it looks great.

A piece of history that is vanishing in America before our eyes. eSports is dying here, and rapidly.
arty truly is the goat. and you know he has strong morals cause even 20 years ago hes bashing toss lol
I remember watching this on YT when it was originally dropped ;)

Not allowing All-In practice is the most stubborn thing I've ever heard. At least schedule a time/day for it.

Young Artosis? Those guys are lucky to be alive after running into him.
Ohh man I loved that SCForAll channel, Artosis's videos back then were the best. So nostalgic
