- Hello and welcome. My name is Cliff and I'm an Australian gem cutter. Watch me facet a piece of blue Topaz. The final result was totally unexpected as I had to modify and improvise the design midway to avoid wasting a lovely gem. Thank you for watching. Best Wishes.

Bob Ross would call it a happy little Accident. The Gem is magical. The Center looks like it's liquid, and the Gem is shiny from every angle, even from the side. Awesome.
Yes Aik...A happy accident. Although at the time I found no joy in the accident. I enjoy watching Bob Ross's art show.
bobs hair would get in the way and he wouldnt have a clue wtf is going on

Absolutely beautiful piece. The customer that's lucky enough to purchase this gem will be extremely grateful each time it's worn, as it will be admired by many.
That is absolutely the coolest thing I’ve ever seen!
Congratulations on a beautiful result, fantastic recovery, and having the guts to share your thought process. This is how we all learn. Love the Round and Faceted mix. New Sub! Mike
always nice to open youtube to a new vintage time upload. :)
I think this stone is beautiful and don't know where you say you went wrong. I always hated my birthstone Topaz as it was to me always a dull murky yellowy colour, but now I'm this many years old I find that Topaz is so much more than the yellow that I disliked as a child. Beautiful!
this stone is incredible, you are a true master gem cutter, you used a dull bit of a stone and brought it to life, sparkling and with a personality of look at me,,,, breathtaking
You came up on my recommended page. And you know I had to click on it.
I hope you enjoyed the video Charles. All the best. Cliff
I love the way it came out the center kinda spirals the light as it moves!
wow it's incredible just how sparkly and blue it came out, looks great!
Thanks...The blue color is nice. Glad it was completed.
Boa noite muito linda mesmo
The final reveal was mesmerizing, similar to getting lost gazing into a campfire. Thanks Cliff,

Hi friend its been awhile.
unfortunately i come baring very bad news.
2 weeks ago my home in AZ was completely destroyed by a horrific fire.
all my equipment, notebooks, science texts, and mineral collection too was also destroyed.
all my gemstones i had made watching your channel gone as well.
but i am here to continue to listen and observe for one day i will start doing this again.
Hi, sorry to hear this news. It must be devastating for you and your family? I wish you a quick rebuild and hopefully soon life will regain some type of normality. All the best Cliff
When working with any natural material, sometimes you have to be willing to listen if it starts telling you how it wants to look. Well done.
Excellent improvisation , the gem looks fantastic !The transfer blocks is very interesting idea. Thanks Cliff for great video .
Yes in the end it worked Okay...All the best.
Such a gorgeous finish, and very interesting and educational journey with this gem. Thank you for this, it is amazing, as always.
I learnt a heck of a lot through such a mistake. Cheers Cliff
It looks like perpetually melting ice. That's so pretty.

Even with the mishaps the gem still looks fantastic!
Thanks Dag.
a nice stone mate
This is awesome.
Top job! Wow!
so good!! nicely done :)
Great video brother. 💪🤠👍
Great video again. The transfer blocks do make a huge difference. Very interesting idea with the convex crown, something to play with another day :). I do wonder how a flat table cut would have gone.
Yes, convex crowns can be looked at for unique designs.
Beautiful.
I would like to recommend you a very interesting anime series where each character is a precious gem, the name of the anime is Land of the Lustrous (Houseki no Kuni).
Gorgeous 💎 ❤️
Thank you for the video
I am just starting with this hope i can cut some nice one soon :) thank you for this tutorial
Beautiful!
Thanks
Beautiful
Thanks Bob.
extraordinary
I love the stone and the cut as well. It is a bit odd not seeing a table but I really do like it. I mean I really like it.
Thanks Ricky...Some crowns are faceted without the table. And I thought it better not to push my luck and go any further.
I would like to go learn from you. I saw your videos. They are so amazing skill. The gem came out so beautiful.
Wunderbar und sehr schön
Parabéns pelo trabalho!
Very nice
Lol!! I just watched "Magnum Force" a few days ago! Really enjoying your videos. I am brand new to rockhounding and looking for inspiration! Thanks!!
Welcome aboard!
Thanks for your sharing video
Very informative :)
I see a Star Trek ring. Nice work.
AMAZING!!!!
Super like linda pedra lindo tales de topázio meu amigo 👦
Very nice 👍👍
I've always thought that these particularly pretty light blue, high clarity, low flash and fire stones benefit from a particularly deep and relatively low facet count cut. Something like an emerald cut. My mom has a nice aquamarine ring that she wore for a while while she had her engagement ring resized. It featured an emerald cut piece of what I assume to be synthetic aquamarine and it is still one of my favorites of her jewelry collection.
Amazing
Ferfect 😍😍😍😍💯⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍
Hi , What is the brand of the alignment blocks? I have looked all over the net. Did they come with your Gemaster or are they separate product?
Thank you
Show ,thanks .
Gorgeous! Ripples on the water :)
I'm about to start doing this, practice with quartz, I have some garnets I mined, I want topaz because it's my favorite, would love some opal, ruby... I'm a machinist, really excited to start practicing faceting. Thanks for the show :)
Thanks....
@@MrGoodwoodyLet me know how you go? All the best Cliff
@@VintageTimeGems I'm looking at faceting machines on e-bay. They don't look great. Any input on a good machine would be welcomed.
Nice
Thanks Edy.
Amazing, interesting presentations 🇲🇨🇲🇨👍😇
Thanks
I have this gemstone blue topaz so beautiful I buy from Malaysia
Fantastic cut, Cliff!!! Your convex/cab idea was brilliant... Something I would never imagined.
I will say that beginning cutters should shy away from your novel technique until many roads are traveled. You made it look far easier than it really is... I salute you.
Regards those transfer blocks: I tried three times to contact the fellow to buy them, but must have the wrong address. If you get a chance, resend that info to me via email.
Thanks much for the great video.
John, email me, I have a USA maker name.
Hi John, the end result was quite pleasing. I was laying in bed when my light bulb moment came. I have to admit I was uncertain what would happen. It's good learn something different. I emailed you. Cheers Cliff
Hi just watched this vid and it interested me as I use to chase stones with my pop before he past away but the time I spent with him out bush we found big sapphires at tomahawk creek 30 years ago and topaz at mt suprise memories ill never forget but cant go digging again as I am a quadraplegic for last 15 yrs but still have maybe 2000 crts of good cutters wich were left 2 me in will and was wondering do they do the treatment in Australia and do you cut stones for payment
Cheers
Huh, I didn't know you could do that with Topaz. Same process is used on the treated Blue Diamonds, they're gorgeous and cheap since I remember hearing that dirty brown diamonds, which are the lowest value diamonds, tend to produce the best blues after being irradiated.
So it's a win win, taking a cheap flawed gem, and then turning it into something uniquely beautiful as no other gemstone has the same colour blue hue as you get on a blue diamond.
Simplemente hermoso, en cuanto se vendió está gema ???
Well you may had had a few issues with it but the end result is great looking gem. Looks like you might have just lowered your limitations with working out a way to produce a nice cut after having some issues. Kept Safe & Keep Rockin
Thanks Silverback....All the best.
Amazing work! What brand of flat lap do you use?
Thanks...I use Chinese laps off Ebay.
@@VintageTimeGems I get that people probably ask you every video, so maybe just link to your more informative videos in the description instead of being glib. It's difficult starting into a new form of lapidary and being pointed in the right direction by experts is a way I've been able to get to where I am now. Sorry for asking.
thumbs up on reveal
Amazing, sir ! I'm student form VietNam. May I ask you what is the use of water in this process?
Water prevents heat and less scratching and washes away debris.
