I have a 2006 Ford Taurus SEL and love it, it's extremely cheap to drive and maintain and it's everything I want in a car. After college if I have a bunch of money I want to get a newer Taurus SHO
Great video man! My Mom has the same model, but it a 2010. We've encountered minor problems in the 5 years of ownership starting with engine on the way to Pennsylvania for vacation as it turned out the entire engine had to be replaced. I agree the Taurus SHO is a great family car in fact it is the biggest car Ford has ever made the AWD system works exceptionally well in the snow though the Subaru probably performs a bit better.
Don't know if you still have the car but FYI, the keypad has a factory code (it is on a sticker on the fuse panel under the dash) and if you have the IA key in your pocket, you can press any of the keypad buttons to unlock the door. Also the buttons above the gear lever control the color and intensity of the LED interior lighting, and the round button is for the power sunshade in the rear window.
There is no reason to argue about the SHO name. Ford literally says SHOW now. the older ones were called S.H.O because thats how the adds said it. Both ways to pronounce it are correct.
SHO, as in SHOgun. Back in the days of the original SHO when it had the marvelous Yamaha 3.0 v6, 5 speed manual trans. That 'nest-o-snakes' intake was something to see. Miss my ole '89 SHO, was good times, 'SHO-times'.
jay buff I like to drive one of the 1st generation ones if I could find one in decent shape. Plus one of the later 90s cars that had the V8 would be cool too. I never see them though, I'm sure many have rusted out by now.
I think the original SHOs only came with a manual transmission in the 80s because the engine had too much torque for an automatic. The center console if softer material on the newer ones. I noticed that when I traded my 2010 in for a 2018. I love the way these cars ride and how quite they are. I have had Tauruses for 25 years. They are all very reliable and the engines run like a clock. These SHOs may become collectors items down the road like the Buick Grand National.
Please tell me something, My dad has one of these cars and behind the front morror there is a forward facing camera embedded into it. Do you know what this camera is for?
Nope, this car has had very little if anything go wrong with it. Been a great car to us for the past 10 years and we have no intention of getting rid of it.
My dad said it has 93k on it now and it hasn't had any problems. He loves having it as his daily. I would say go for it, this has been one of the most reliable cars he's owned. I've taken it on some roadtrips as have my parents and it's a great travel car.
I forgot i asked you about this. So I bought my SHO a year and a half ago at 75k. Today I'm at almost 109k, with no issues, other than wheel bearings. Glad I pulled the trigger.
Drew Hey Drew can I get an update? How many miles are you at right now and still no problems? I bought mine and I’m already hearing about the water pump issue and getting paranoid
The 2016 rims , $750 EACH. No spare, bought a reconditioned rim, full size, for spare. All wheel drive is better than front wheel in snow. But , THE PTU. UGH.
It's been an ongoing debate in the automotive industry for years, ever since Ford introduced the car. I personally think it sounds so stupid when people called it the sho instead of pronouncing the letters.
Because yamahaa provided the engine for the first s h o which stands for super high output. Yamahaa still to this day tags their best engines woth this name in examble thir sho wave runner the have a HO (high output) and a sho(super high output) coincidentally it is supercharged. NOW the new sho taurus is not a yamahaa motor it is a TDI (turbo direct injection) super awesome engine that is a direction a lot of car makers are just starting to take in 2017 all be it audi had this for years it is awesome. Any how that is why itnis the aho and not the S H O, when u say S H O u are referring to the yamaha gen . It isnt a debate it is what it is!
Oh and by the way if u have not got it tined u are mossing out! For $650 u can have 459 horsepowe and even more torque! And it is better on fuel even if only 1-2mpg! My 0-60 went from 5.1 to 4.4 but i also got the air intake. Now i am getting a 160 degree tstat and a 3 bar sensor for boost readings and i can get the x tunr and that ewill be getting close to 500 ponies in a taurus! Reportedly gets 3.9 sec 0-60 ! This is all through a shop called Livernois, but once u buy the tuner they say they will givenu tunes for the life of ur car and ur next car
I'm familiar with the history of the SHO and how Yamaha made the original engines. It's cool because Ford was originally going to make a mid engine supercar in the mid 80s so they went to Yamaha and asked them to build a V6 to put in them. Eventually they dropped the project and had a bunch of engines just sitting around so they thought about it and decided to put it in the Taurus to make a performance model. Hence the SHO was born! I would say that was an even better idea because the car was a hit, you had the great practicality of the Taurus, an available manual transmission, and excellent power and performance for the day. You are correct when you say Ford makes the new Ecoboost engine but SHO still stands for Super High Output. People even pronounced the original one "show." You seriously got THAT much more power from those mods?? That's seriously impressive!!! I'm not sure if this one will be modded as it belongs to my dad so I don't call the shots haha. I would like him to put an exhaust on it to give it a little more sound.
I would go with the SHO if you like power and a larger but sportier car. It's a lot of fun to drive and it's great in the snow, very comfortable daily driver too. It does have a more firm suspension than the Chrysler but it's not going to beat you to death. The 200 will definitely get better fuel mileage, even with the V6 and AWD. There have been a lot of reliability scares with the 9 speed transmission, especially on the 2015 models so that's something to keep in mind. The 6 speed in the Taurus is a nice transmission with smooth and relatively quick shifts. Test drive both and see what you think I would say.
+mhtube01 I appreciate the reply. Yeah the transmission scare has definitely been something I have been worried about. I like the looks of both cars...like the mpg of the 200, but have a feeling the SHO would be more reliable and feel better in the winter. Will be doing a lot of highway driving. Leaning towards the SHO.
+46panel I will say they're both great highway cars and excellent in the winter. The SHO being a bigger, heavier car though might have an advantage over the 200 in more extreme conditions. If it does, I honestly haven't noticed.
Do not get the 200. Hopefully it’s not too late for you. It’s a lemon of a car. Has a lot of reliability issues at low miles and is well known for that.
Well yes that's true, Ford has had that for years on their cars. But I meant just something as simple as a button on the door handle, which they starting putting on these cars in 2013 when they refreshed it.
Not bad for AWD and a big, heavy car. It gets about 16-17 in the city and around 25 on the highway. It's not much better than a V8 despite Ford branding the EcoBoost like that.
+mhtube01 Thanks , I've been really considering getting one in black. I was really sold on ford's advertisement of v6 fuel economy , don't want a super gas guzzler but this car is just amazing! Really torn! Although I do have a 4cyl that is good on gas 😕
+jay hill Gas mileage really takes a back seat in this car if I'm honest haha the SHO is about performance and it certainly delivers in that category. The low end torque especially is awesome. It had a very good 6 speed auto but it would get better fuel mileage with a 7 or 8 speed. I say test drive one and see what you think. You're going to love the way it drives, it's so solid and feels like you're in a tank.
That's day to day normal driving. I'm not constantly mashing the throttle when I drive it. My dad sees the same mileage and he drives it 99% of the time cause it's his car. He just bought some brand new Continental tires for it and LOVES them. I recently visited and I drove it with them and it did feel great. The Goodyears this thing came with stock were AWFUL. Since then we ran two sets of Yokohamas on it and they were great too but they stopped making the tire he had so he went with the Contis and I think he likes them even a little better. But anyway gas mileage isn't bad with it and the fun certainly makes up for it.
It's been pronounced "Show" since the very first car debuted in the early nineties. Not laziness. Heritage. Also Ecoboost has been around long before this car. Ford began badging their full line of direct injected turbocharged engines "Ecoboost" in 2010 (for better marketing), and the F150 made it popular, but they're just old Mazda designed engines with two turbos, dating back as early as 2005 in Mazda's, Volvo's, and the European Ford Focus.
That's cool, I know the newer Mustangs portray the horse emblem on the ground from the mirrors. This car doesn't have that, it just has white lights. What year is your's? I'm wondering if that was an option this one doesn't have or if it came with the 2013 refresh.
I remember when the first SHO came out, and it was called S-H-O, not "Show". I now own a 2013 SHO, and really hate it when other owners call their cars a "show". S...H...O.. Mine has all the 2013 options, except Performance Package, including Adaptive Cruise (love it!), massaging seats (nice on long trips), and self parking (I'm afraid to use it.) :) I was wondering if the button in you Dad's center console, with the four bars, might be an adjustment for Adaptive Cruise. The 2013 SHO has the self parking and rear sun screen controls in that cubby. I like the SHO, but I'm still thinking about that MB SL55 AMG.... Sweeeeet!
The 2010_2012 s.h.o. taurus had a better looking guage set up, better looking front end, not as ricey as the laster version, hate the shifter, would upgrade that. Upgrade tail lights, nothing else. Nice power, 5.2 to sixty m.p.h. , with the potential to make the same power as the ford gt, hell it, s the same motor. Great car.
Lol no worries, I know Toyota makes a better car. I don't have my 200C anymore, it ended up getting totalled almost 2 years ago. I put 75k miles on it though without too much drama but it definitely had it's quirks. The V6 200s are much better than the 4 cylinder ones.
I've driven the Charger R/T, unless your car is modified, it would not eat it up. They would be right with each other. If you don't have AWD, this car would definitely launch harder. Now the V8 has more torque and 5 more hp and the Charger has a higher top speed, but again they're very evenly matched. My Challenger Scat Pack would smoke both of them.
I have a 2006 Ford Taurus SEL and love it, it's extremely cheap to drive and maintain and it's everything I want in a car. After college if I have a bunch of money I want to get a newer Taurus SHO
6 years later man, tell me you see this comment and got a sho🙏🏾
Update on mileage/condition? Looking at getting one with 120K miles on it
The Taurus SHO is awesome - no matter what! Who cares how it's pronounced. Ford is spot-on with it - Super High Output! LOVE FORD!!!!
"Don't live with my parents, I live on my own now" LET'S GO!!!!
I just bought a ‘13 with 65k on it. The car is a dream...
WhaddupImJohn any water pump issues?
Just bought a black 15" SHO with 14K On it ;) things a monster of a car
Great video man! My Mom has the same model, but it a 2010. man that's a pretty car, and you don't see to many on the road.
The buttons next to the power outlet control the ambient lighting and the rear sunshade.
Looks gorgeous 🤩 I recently bought a 2014 SEL and I can't be more happy with it. Mine is tuxedo black. I Love it 😍
I had a 2012 same color body style and everything and mine had the pp package and smart key entry and remote start

The shogun was a fiesta with a first gen sho motor in the middle. Leno has one and you can pull up the review . Put in Leno shogun.
I think the original SHOs only came with a manual transmission in the 80s because the engine had too much torque for an automatic. The center console if softer material on the newer ones. First automatic was '93.
The 5 speed was way better to drive. We have had them all but my 93 was my favorite.
Please tell me something, My dad has one of these cars and behind the front morror there is a forward facing camera embedded into it. Do you know what this camera is for?
The rear view mirror? That might be for the automatic headlights. It reads how bright or dark it is to determine when the lights are needed.
I'm wondering how those Ecoboost holding up long term?
Any waterpump/coolant issues
Nope, this car has had very little if anything go wrong with it. Been a great car to us for the past 10 years and we have no intention of getting rid of it.
Does it pull you into the seat? I'm thinking about trading my charger mopar edition.
Any update on this vehicle? I'm looking at a 2011 SHO with 75k....just curious how it's been beyond 75k.
My dad said it has 93k on it now and it hasn't had any problems. He loves having it as his daily. I would say go for it, this has been one of the most reliable cars he's owned. I've taken it on some roadtrips as have my parents and it's a great travel car.

Ghost227 Same here bro U not the only one. I have a 2011 sel 102k
KEEP THE SHO!!! it's AWESOME! And so gorgeous!
The chrome around the tail lights of my 2011 Taurus SHO has been peeling for years.
Yeah same for this car. My dad has tried to repaint parts of it with chrome paint which held up for a bit but didn't last.
thinking about getting 1 of these
The 2016 rims , $750 EACH. No spare, bought a reconditioned rim, full size, for spare. All wheel drive is better than front wheel in snow. But , THE PTU. UGH.
Why is the whole Sho vs S.H.O. such a big deal?
It's been an ongoing debate in the automotive industry for years, ever since Ford introduced the car. I personally think it sounds so stupid when people called it the sho instead of pronouncing the letters.
Even my grandfather calls the thing SHO lol.

Been thinking about a 2013 sho or a 2015 v6 awd chrysler 200. I live in Michigan and definitely want something awd. Pros and cons of each?

Do not get the 200. Hopefully it’s not too late for you. It’s a lemon of a car. Has a lot of reliability issues at low miles and is well known for that.
Its Called a SHO, dufus the S.H.O is the older model
Actually does have smart entry all you do is touch any of the numbers on the touchpad with the key in your pocket
Well yes that's true, Ford has had that for years on their cars. But I meant just something as simple as a button on the door handle, which they starting putting on these cars in 2013 when they refreshed it.

+mhtube01 is this gas mileage based off driving with a heavy foot ? Or just normal day to day acceleration ?
That's day to day normal driving. I'm not constantly mashing the throttle when I drive it. My dad sees the same mileage and he drives it 99% of the time cause it's his car. 2013 and up didn’t have paddles
76,000 miles. Your parents have took good care of it.
70malcolm Yup, we all take care of our cars. It has over 90,000 miles on it now.
Mine says ford on the ground under the side mirrors
That's cool, I know the newer Mustangs portray the horse emblem on the ground from the mirrors. This car doesn't have that, it just has white lights. What year is your's? I'm wondering if that was an option this one doesn't have or if it came with the 2013 refresh.
@@mhtube01 2011 also
Mine says yugo on the rear hatch. It’s not fast, does not handle , gets poor mileage,is unreliable but ...... I’ll get back to you.
Came for a reliability review. Got a bunch of useless specs and stories about his life that I don't care about instead.
mhtube01 yea, obviously I didn't watch the whole video because I don't care to know you moved out of mommy and daddy's house or where you live.
Yeah this guys stinks
My 2011 hennessey has 191k and still runs like new.
I remember when the first SHO came out, and it was called S-H-O, not "Show". I now own a 2013 SHO, and really hate it when other owners call their cars a "show". S...H...O.. I have a 2016 SHO. My buddy has a 200, was ok 2 years, been falling apart since. Not disrespect, just Toyota is better compared to 200. 300s are nice.
Lol no worries, I know Toyota makes a better car. I don't have my 200C anymore, it ended up getting totalled almost 2 years ago. I put 75k miles on it though without too much drama but it definitely had it's quirks. The V6 200s are much better than the 4 cylinder ones.
I've got one just like it.
Ford should have improved the performance of the car
No joke, Ford should of dropped a coyote 5.0 v8 in it to challenge the charger.
We used these for police cars in new jersey
I live in Myrtle Beach!!!!
Nice! I had a great time there and will be coming down again this August with this car!
+mhtube01 Nice.
200? Why? Better a Toyota.
like
He drives a 200 he wishes he had a sho to call it a show! Lol this sky is a joke where is the reliability report
Screw the Chrysler 200. Keep the SHO.
TheRed58Fury1 It's my dad's car, I can't keep it. He still has it and I still have my 200.
Fucj
My Dodge Charger RT would eat that SHO up
I've driven the Charger R/T, unless your car is modified, it would not eat it up. They would be right with each other. If you don't have AWD, this car would definitely launch harder. Now the V8 has more torque and 5 more hp and the Charger has a higher top speed, but again they're very evenly matched. My Challenger Scat Pack would smoke both of them.
troublesum1978 Nope. My 2013 SHO beat my friends 2016 R/T Challenger by two car lengths and both cars are stock. The more you know.
in your dreams...
Donna Rhodes If the result was any different, I would say so. In reality.
okay - I understand you love your Charger and i love the SHO Taurus - I'll be more understanding...: )
