Hi Scotty
As a 23 year cop, I have had a 90 Vic, a 93 Vic, a95 Vic, a 2003 Impala, a 2005 Vic, a 2008 Vic, a 2013 hemi charger, a 2020 explorer, and currently a 2022 explorer. I miss my 2008 Vic.... not the fastest... but she was a tank... the impala was a complete POS, we got rid of all of them with 40k on them. The hemi charger, while the most fun Ive ever had in a police car, was also a POS, with all kinds of valve train and cooling issues. The 2 new explorers both had issues and had been to the dealer several times for stupid computer stuff and the 2020 dropped the AWD transfer case at 12k miles.
I have a 2010 Vic Interceptor and just got a 2020 Charger Pursuit. The Charger is beefier, more powerful, faster and fun. But the Vic is downright magical and I think I like it better :)
Ford quality started going down a lot after they discontinued the Crown Victoria and Ranger. They cut a lot of peoples wages, and were paying new workers less. Hence is why the quality went down. It’s just the way it works, and Ford still makes up excuses for it.
you should get another crown vic. They may be grandpa cars, but are comfortable and reliable.
The Crown Vick might be the most reliable police car ever made.
Ford won't even think about building something like it anymore....... Drove one on my security guard job for a few years.....
this car is yamaha made sho v6 3.5l japan made
Eco Boost. It actually stands for Economy Boost as in boosting Fords economy by failing early resulting in building more. Planned obsolescence at its best.
Scotty forgot to mention the internal water pump. Has a small weep hole outside but When it goes bad water goes straight into the motor
This is really a beautiful car, wish Ford still made the Taurus
Had a Grand Marquis loved that big boat , 4.6 in it
Had a 2004 with the 4.6 and it ran great. Drove like a dream until someone pulled out in front of me on the hwy doing 65. T boned them but the cabin of the Grand Marquis was still intact. I still mourn the loss of the car.
Radiator leak?
me too! Great big old cruiser!
My 2004 Taurus SEL with 196K runs like a clock. Uses no oil. 3.0L Duratec engine. Original transmission shifts like a new car.
same with my 14’
My wife has a 2012 SHO and it's a wonderful car.
Have a 2010 Flex with V6 EcoBoost that has the SHO badge on it. 265k+ miles and runs like a dream. Love it. Gave to my daughter and she loves it. Bought a 2014 Flex V6 EcoBoost but no SHO badge, love it too. i know Scotty does not like the turbos but I have NEVER had to touch them and I DO sometimes drive like a MANIAC 🤣🤣🤣
Hi how's the reliability
this car is yamaha made sho v6 3.5l japan made
on the 2010 had tranny rebuilt at 285K, now perfect again. the 2014 had to replace the oil pressure sensor, that is all.@@tesla_models
I got a 2018 Taurus sel worh 100k km on it and it runs like a dream, changed all the fluids on it as soon as i could and it runs great
i almost bought an older Taurus SHO that needed a clutch, i called my mechanic, he told me to walk away and he wouldn't work on it, and he's a Ford guy. i also had an '88 Taurus with the 3.0, got rid of it with 240k, good car
I'd take a Crown Victoria over that Taurus any day.
Same. Only problem is that gangsters use em too so it marks u for both police and gang bangers
Exactly driving in a ford Victoria cruiser is more better.
You'd probably still have the partition, which would be great for taxi drivers because they don't have to talk to passengers.
@user: they both Ford’s vehicles, but the Ford Taurus is a great vehicle as well.
They are a sweet ride. I had an 86 I think and you could drive cross country nonstop and not be fatigued. It was so smooth and like riding a cloud. Fast AF too. 5.0 mustang motor.
A real sleeper.
I’ve had a few of them but the 85 or 86 I loved most.
Have a 2004 Grand Marquis with a 4.6 great engine. Needs suspension work and airbag work. I am keeping it until the wheels fall t.
You'd better keep it until After the wheels fall off. There's some exotic Texas dealership where you can buy online. I saw a pristine 1985 LTD/Crown Vic LX with ALL the goodies going for...wait for it...$25,000.00 American!! I'm pretty sure it was less than 100k miles. I mean that thing belonged in a museum under glass!!!!!
Yeah I just did shock and strut replacement on my mothers 2005 explorer and she said it feels like a new car. I dont have any experience with airbags setups though.
Was shopping for one of these a couple years ago. Ended up with a Lincoln town car. Still glad I did.
The idle hours on a former law enforcement vehicle would be astronomical.
3200 idles hrs on my 08 Crown Vic, runs like a clock
You can get the exact number from a good OBD scan tool
The best police cars were the Ford Crown Victoria and Chevy Tahoe. We don’t like the smaller engines with Turbo. I don’t know much about turbos, but I do know the vehicles would always end up in the shop because the engines ran 24 seven and the turbo would fail.
Drove a few old Crown Vics with the Interceptor package when I was a cab driver.
The best cop car was the 95-96 caprice with the LS engine. The fan relays went out every month, but other than that nothing else touched them.
I agree the Caprice was a good cop car. Dodge Diplomat was popular too.
Did the diplomat have heavy duty cooling and electrical from the factory?
@@t.morris5303As did I. They're built like tanks and you feel safe in them. Miss driving them
Re. the tire pressure sensors, my 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe sensors have apparently all quit. Dealer quoted $1300.00 to fix it. Forget them. I’ll just ignore the light and manually check the tires myself!
Tire pressure monitoring sensors are for people who are too damn lazy to check their tire pressure manually weekly like we're freaking supposed to!!! At least in places like Chicago where the day to day outside temperature changes can be in the double-digits. Just more unnecessary electronic gadgetry to weigh a vehicle down and we wonder why fuel economy hasn't improved in the last 30 years!! PEOPLE?!? READ your GottDAMN OWNERS MANUAL!!!!! Now lemme tell you how I REALLY Feel!!!!!......🤬🤬👿👿
@@landonbenford8369 AMEN!
I hear ya.
Last year I had to replace one of those on our 2007 Camry.
I have my own tire gauges for each vehicle we have.
HOWEVER, the Camry is my 'Wife's Car' and she wants to see if the tires are low or not.
Personally I cannot blame her. She really does not ask much when it comes the the vehicles we have owned over the years.
It gives her piece of mind and it gives me PEACE. LOL
So I shelled out the ridiculous amount of money for just one of them and my Wife is happy.
She wears business attire every day so I do not want her crawling around on the ground messing with anything car related.
PLUS she works too. She makes money and she deserves to be listened to and taken care of.
That is how a marriage of over 41 years works. LOL
I do like the newer Tire Monitors in our 2022 RAV4 though.
I like to be able to see what the air pressure is on each tire.

Car manufacturers don't want you to fix your own car.
It's called a conspiracy!
Yep
That is a Big 10-4.
The government doesn’t want you to own a car, either, but there’s a whole other issue there.
i drive an 86 c10, i love being able to work on my own vehicle...
I really love the look of these Taurus years.
At one time our agency used the chevy caprice with the LT1 corvette engine and suspension. Crazy power and rode like a large. Ship in calm seas. What an awesome machine. Fast, stable, reliable.
A few weeks ago i drove the Lincoln MKS version of the sho with the same engine it really was fast car and has also almost 200k on it and runs perfectly fine
Exactly 4 years ago I was shopping for a car. I was targeting an SHO, but stumbled upon a YT vid on the redesigned Lincoln MKZ. Bought a 2017 with 28K miles, AWD with the 3.0 twin turbo. Still loving it to this day!!!
Keep that MKZ, they're great cars
I like how cop vehicles give you a column shift.
I had a Ford Fairmont from police auction before the Taurus 1990 (different gen but not sure if issues resolved for next gen). The straight 6 was strong. Some had v8's. There are probably more Fairmonts running than the Taurus even if a previous generation. Every weld rusted around the Taurus but bottom of car fine. There was so much rust in front of the hood air inflated the hood like a balloon opened up even with hood still shut.
I'm surprised by that gas milage. In my Pontiac G8 (6.0L V8) I averaged 25 mpg on a 1,200 mile road trip and have 200,000+ miles on the car no issues.
And why do you think people prefer the GM/LS V8's?
I remember the Taurus SHO of the 1980’s that had a Yamaha engine.
Yamaha designed and I believe built by Mercury.
@@geoffreysmommyI remember the Yamaha logo on the engine.
Love my crown vic, got even better after sliding in a 5 speed!!
I'll bet that's a fun car to drive!
I purchased a 2018 Ford police interceptor sedan. Car had 52,000 miles on it and 4,000 engine idling hours. The car is extremely clean no dents minor scratches. I have driven this car 18,000 miles this year and have absolutely no problems. I paid $7,800 for this car at a police auction. The car is a former Columbus Ohio police car. My question, is this normal when it comes to buying old cop cars, or did I just get lucky
I bought a used 2002 crown vic intersepter. I installed performance street cams, under drive pulleys, custom dual exhaust, etc. I loved it. I bought a new truck and gave the car to my daughter. The car was unbreakable.
Had 92 Taurus, 95 Taurus, 99 Taurus, 2000 Taurus. 2001 Taurus. were great cars that had over 200k on them. 2005 expedition. My 2013 expedition is my last ford or American car ever. They buikt they great back in the day. 2013 expedition is a great truck still
After the 2012 or '13 model year wasn't that when the automakers started turning the cockpits into discothèques?? Anything newer than that you can keep it!
I’ve got a 2009 Taurus SEL 120k miles. Those were when they became full size sedans but before they brought back the SHO. Let me tell ya, that thing is a massive hunk of a luxury sedan. Lots of rear legroom, tall roofline for ample headroom, and a humongous trunk, in fact the largest of any sedan in 2009, even bigger than a crown Vic. It is also longer than a Sienna of the same year and just 0.3 inches shorter than an Odyssey of that same year. It’s roomy, comfortable, and a the 3.5 L naturally aspirated Cyclone/Duratec engine with 263 HP makes that thing already quick despite its size. I can only imagine how much faster these SHOs are.
It has direct injection and it builds carbon in the in the intake valve area. I walnut blast mine when it gets bad enough. Time consuming but it works very well. 176,00 and have done the blasting twice so far and am going to do it again later this year.
Ford needs to build reliable cars again.
AMEN, It's the stupid EPA regulations.
Yes! They need to return to the attitude of "pride in the best built in America" and get away from the mindset of "plastic junk that customers will constantly need to spend money repairing until it finally dies. "
I’d love to see a nice NA v8 sedan
@@parthpatel967Agreed
Ford doesn't need a reliable car, we do. So they won't do it until the sales plumet. Boycot them. Stop buying useless plastic. They removed chargers and headphones from new devices. What happened? People buy even more. So? Why not?
I owned a Crown Victoria. Those were the best police interceptors.
Always loved that SHO!
Ahh the countless hours I’ve spent making thousands of those ford tarurus tail lights. Good to see a video on the Taurus. ❤
That's extremely unusual if he's got almost 200,000 miles on the original transmission unless that's about 90% highway miles. The SHO does have a bad rep for the transmission going out before 100,000 miles especially if you get on it often. Now the Taurus with the non turbo engines aren't bad cars and I think Ford was dumb for dropping them. The transmissions could easily go 200,000 if you took care of them.
changed my fluid on my 14’ sel when it said to at 150k miles and shifts great at 180k, cars required $300 in maintenance outside of oil changes. sweet car. tune them and fill it up with e85 and it’s fun to get on
Do you have a video on the crown Vic? I have a 2011 Vic interceptor, would love to see you review that car. It’s been a solid daily driver for me.
Dude I love your content keep it up !!
Least it has gaskets and not glue! You’ll only replace valve cover gasket once
in 2008 i got a 1999 crown vic with 98k miles on it for 800 bucks at the public auction and drove it till late 2022, the transmission went out at 290k miles, i was gonna put in another transmission but they also had another public police auction literally a couple weeks out so i was like well let me see what i can, i got a 2010 crown vic with 150k miles on it for 1800 bucks and it runs great. i also sold the 1999 as is for 800 bucks and the guy put in another transmission in it probably still drives it today!
i buy retired police cars because usually i can get a good running vehicle for cheap ,the vehicles are usually well maintained and have maint records. the auction is usually exceptionally good at listing any problems the vehicles might have.....so when i need another vehicle im 100% sure is gonna be a retired police vehicle from the public auction. as long as they keep auctioning off good running vehicles and i can still win with a cheap auction bid im still gonna buy em
Nice looking car for its age! I’ve got a 2018 Ford focus ST and I love my built-in navigation. It save me more than a couple times when I got into an area on a trip out in the middle of nowhere with no cell phone signal and not knowing where I was the GPS built-in navigation worked fantastic! Plus with the built-in navigation I don’t have to have my phone plugged in to Apple CarPlay, and have it constantly charge so that’s a plus for the built-in navigation too.
Wish they didn’t get rid of the Crown Vic. Maybe it’s better this way, they might have made it into an electric suv. I got 3 Vic’s so they should last a while.
Nice car 👍 another around the same age is the Chevrolet PPV with a nice GM V8 in RWD 👌
If you didn't know its a rebadged, stripped down LHD version of the Holden Statesman/Caprice from Australia, which is just the longer wheel based version of the Holden VE Commodore (which Pointiac rebadged as the G8).
The first generation of the sho was from 1989 to 1991 for a total of 15000 plus units. Conan Obrien apparently bought one new an still has it.
The turbo buzzer in the dash I thought was a very cool when dad was doing ford tech studys on this. He got hurt soon after never did back to it.
Ford also made a Ford Taurus SHO with the V-8 that was built based on their Duratec and that model moved right along down the road.l😊
I had a 1994 Taurus SHO. Horse power was 220 with a Ford bottom end and a Yamaha top end. My SHO would walk a same year Mustang GT from a roll. The engines were rock solid. The problem with them was you had to do a 60k maintenance which included plugs, wires, water pump, sensors and valve shims. Very few dealerships had techs to work on them. I did my 60k myself after I found a guy did a video on how to do it.
8,000 RPM’s 😊
The legend was the engine could handle 8k RPM, but the accessories could not, so they were limited to ~7200 RPM. @@melissasmess2773
it turns out the engine inside the last generation Ford Taurus are the same ones used in the 2010 - 2012 Ford Fusions which were really reliable, which was the Duratec 35.
My brother and i have 2 11’s. They run forever, and he’s at 192k
If I remember correctly. When the first SHO came out. There was only 4 cars with front wheel drive that had over 200 horsepower.
The early EcoBoost (think 2010-2015) is prone to cam phaser failure and there is a recall for it if I’m not mistaken.
My parents had a Chevy in the early 60s.Brand new and had a rattle in the engine took it in.He Told them it was a heat riser. They said no, so they replaced the cam share and it's still rattled. And Well they finally changed out the heat riser and that took care of the problem
Don't!!! Scotty must have gotten into something.😂
Once the water pump starts leaking without anyway to notice it, it's too late now for the bearings
I have a 2013 camry at the moment and I'm seriously considering buying a 2018 Taurus a friend of mine is selling for a really good price.
I drove it and I really like the Taurus. My only concern is that I don't want any suprises with the unexpexcted repairs. I was very comfortable with the camry in terms of maintainace. But I want a more comfortable car since I moved to a place which is a 50 minutes drive from work one way.
Should go for the 2018 Taurus?
Scotty kilmer you are the best
Hey Scottie, Scotty here I agree Ford isn't what they were years ago & I hate to hurt your feelings but Toyota Tundra and Tacoma aren't what they were years ago either. Their V6 turbo & 4 cylinder turbo are pure garbage also.
Most of the SHOs I’ve seen were made by Yamaha, I believe- it was basically a Japanese motorcycle engine -Ford had to use the Japanese belt, because it kept throwing the JUNK Ford Belts.
0:45 Just off camera, Scotty has s trash bin full of stupid beauty covers.
The dashboard lights are flashing! It may have some electrical issues. Not a good omen...
Crown Vic and Chevy Caprice are best. Btw not in that order.
is 200k on a us car still like 100k on a uk car - ie: what's your 'magic mile/age' and has it increased? we used to sell our cars around 80-95k miles while they held a % of their original value as after 100k, a good set of tyres does more for it's value than make or model. full depreciation now happens at 130k. older cars aren't more valuable so money must be less so. 130/100 says 'felt-inflation' running 20-25%
Some beauty covers have sound insulation material for loud injectors and emmissions equipment. I like to keep an eye on mouse nests, so mine goes in the grass too.
In my state they switch from Crown Vic to the Dodge Charger Hellcat 6.2 L V8 with 797 HP
707
Alan Mulally saved Ford and they’ve been downhill since he left. He had simple concepts. I.e. make a quality, good looking vehicle that people actually want to drive.
I love my sho. It's my dad mustang. Two doors is a no no with a kid in there every day.
Yeah me too or the Mercury Marquis
A real gem.
Thank you Scotty✨😊✨
Thanks Scotty love the horse pictures
I heard of a State cop that chased down a porche on a freeway.
“Time marches on, and things get crappier” 😂put that on a shirt Scotty.
i think the original SHO used a yamaha engine
It did
Both the V6 and the V8 engines were Yamaha designed. The 3.4 V8 had issues with cam gears. Ford almost did used Volvo’s Yamaha V8 instead of the EcoBoost until Ford sold Volvo. Unfortunately it’s very difficult to get parts for these Ford Taurus SHOs from the 1990’s these days. It’s like having a Dodge Stealth/Mitsubishi 3000GT. Parts are also hard to come by for them.
The original SHO was pretty much the fastest production sedan in its time
Almost replaced my little 11' V6 Ranger and got into some newer technology, hmmm .... no thanks!
It’s pretty sad but true when your priorities start with 2 dipsticks.
A big powerful engine will need to be paired with a manual transmission, to be a real fun.
Most depts change cars every year.
bring back the taurus SHO
Great info 😊
I kinda get the feeling Scotty isn't a huge fan on 'beauty covers' and is angry as hell the entire car industry is shocked he isn't.😂😆
the beauty cover reduces noise.

Time marches on, and things get crappier 😂 well said Scotty
Careful the engine mounts are bolted in sheet metal. When the sheet medal around rips the engine drops a few inches if your lucky. And damages the steering box. When it happened to me I was on a slight bend of round when it was time to go straight gain the steering wheel wouldn't move and I was in the opposite lane. I was able to force the steering wheel and stop the car in opposite lane shoulder. Avoid a head collision. Ford had car and called no warning to pick up car from shop end of day on a Friday said if I don't pick up car today they will charge $100,s per day. So I rushed to pick up car at Ford dealership and said car in outside in the back I will bring to the front. A few minutes later he comes outside saying the car engine fell again they forgot to put the mounts on. So how did it make it outside in the back. Ford President only response was sorry unfortunately this is not Honda. And the amount of pressure they gave me to drive across Toronto during rush hour minutes before closing. Remember tie rods are plastic joints that break ever year if not sooner. Body rust in every welded area
Same ecoboost as the F150. Pretty bulletproof for the most part.

230hp out of a NA V6 in the 1990's..? I'd consider that hight output
