Представь себе выходишь ты в сад и видишь что все деревья в саду повалены. Какая мысль придет к тебе в голову? Скорее всего ты подумаешь что ночью прошел сильный ураган. А теперь представь что ты также выйдешь в свой сад и увидишь что не все деревья повалены, а каждое третье дерево повалено. Какая мысль придет к тебе в голову? Ну врят ли ты здесь все спишешь на ураган. Вполне возможно ты подумаешь что кто-то решил тебе отомстить и это явно не ураган.
А теперь представь что у тебя в коробке 3000 (три тысяча) буквенных символов. И представь что ты подкинул все эти буквы в воздух. Упав на асфальт какова вероятность что эти буквы образуют какое нибудь слово? А какова вероятность что эти буквы образуют какое нибудь предложение? А какова вероятность что эти буквы образуют какой нибудь абзац? А какова вероятность что эти буквы образуют какой нибудь текст? А какова вероятность что эти буквы образуют какую нибудь книгу? Вероятность равна почти нолю.
А ведь двойная спираль днк намного сложнее устроена чем текст на асфальте.
Верить в то что там где то сверкнула молния и вот там тоже где то сверкнула молния, а потом произошла химическая реакция и химические элементы бац соединились и образовали сложное химическое вещество, которая вдруг стало бороться за свое сохранение и не просто сохранение, а ещё и воспроизведение себе подобных- это глупо.
Это все равно что будучи археологом ты наткнешься на руины древнего города и первая мысль которая к тебе в голову придет- это что здесь когда то жили люди. Ну, а если твой коллега скажет: "неа, это просто там сверкнула молния и вон там тоже сверкнула молния, а потом началось землетрясение и вот таким образом и образовался этот город". Ты после этого разговора скорее всего попросишь руководство что бы твоего коллегу отстранили от работы в связи с тем что у него поехала крыша.
Так вот предыдущая ситуация еще более нелепая.
Бытует мнение что наша вселенная хаотична. Но я с этим не соглашусь. Я уверен что наша вселенная упорядоченна.
Так что ребята случайностей не бывает. Случайного везения просто нет. Наша вселенная не хаотична, а упорядоченна. Просто ставьте цели и достигайте их. И верьте что у вас тоже может получиться. Не сдавайтесь ребята.

@@attrakcion There's one thing you missed. All of the more likely scenarios to occur cannot observe themselves. The universe is infinite. All of the more likely things have already happened everywhere else. Even if our exact situation is so extremely unlikely, it is *only* through this exact situation that we can make note of this. A non-thinking rock cannot say "yes, everything is exactly ordinary" on a lifeless world.

Is there a process for Stretch to recognize cartons that require a certain side remain up?

It's interesting to see Stretch was built for specific functions instead of general-purpose robots such as Atlas or Spot. My questions:
1. Do you only test with boxes that have ideally located centres of gravity or can Stretch handle boxes with suboptimally placed centres of gravity? If so, does it mean that it can calculate the centre of gravity of a picked box while moving it?
2. If Stretch picks up a box that has moving content (thus, a changing centre of gravity), can it adapt its movement speed accordingly so the box doesn't pose a problem of dropping?
Love that you guys are using linux on some of your workstations. That makes me beyond happy to see!

Can Stretch identify boxes with "this side up" or "handle with care" instructions? Or is this a seperate use case for boxes with no need to cover any damage?

I am. . . SOOOO sorry to the Software Engineer, but when I see the name "Fifi". . . and the title reads as "Meet Fifi", I thought it was referring to you guys unveiling a new robot model. Like a flying hub-controller robot that controls your Spot and Atlas units. A relay station if you were, like wifi.
Again, I am soooo sorry, but i legit thought fifi was the next code name >.
Only thing I would criticise is the mixing of units, she mentions the speed in m/s but then says the reach in feet, mixing units almost always leads to errors or mistakes.
"The devil is in the details!" (c.) In the video, the robot machine THROWED all the boxes onto the conveyor belt, didn’t put them neatly, Carl!
Seems slightly odd that instead of placing the boxes on the conveyor neatly, Stretch DROPS the boxes from a small height. Has it learned by watching human luggage movers at airports??
it saves complexity because boxes could be different dimensions, if it were to place a taller box it might crush the box into the conveyor. also for each box size it would have to calculate how far down to move every time it placed the box
@@coreysuffield the simplest is to put one laser on the belt conveyor itself or on the robot itself, this laser will measure the distance to the box. There are still a lot of ideas how to solve this little problem.
@@coreysuffield it can be done with some kind of force monitoring to tell when it touches the conveyer belt or some other system to tell the size and shape of the box. If it uses force monitoring then it doesn’t need to do any calculations to tell where to move it to, it just lowers it until the force decreases. Robots that just use position control aren’t that great, adding force control makes it a lot more similar to how a person works, if you think about how you place something on a table, you move it down until you feel that it is on the table, same if you push something, you can decide how much force to use, you use both position and force control. Adding force control to a robot makes it a lot more versatile.
I still find it crazy that such box robots are not common yet. Looks so controllable and easy and not needing fancy AI.
Well the suction idea is a bit impractical and has too many issues. Notice all the boxes it picks up are the same in dimension and size. Using suction there's going to be a tighter weight limit. It's only going to be able to lift boxes that are light enough that the suction will hold. The second it becomes too heavy the suction will fail. As she also says in the video, different shaped boxes are also a problem due to surface area it has to pick up but also because the odd shapes can off center the balance causing the package to pull at one side resulting in the suction failing again. If you could build a second arm that came in after the box was lifted and supported the bottom until it's close to the belt, that might work better for solving this problem.
You can just go buy a spot robot if you wanted to. Nothing stopping you.

i have a question please? : Why does Stretch™not have 3 sides to it's pickup? From what i see in this video, Stretch™ can only pick from top, with flat-ish surfaces only. Would two more sides not assist with GRIP and therefore enable 'other' shaped objects to be handled as efficiently?
seems to me that an |~| shaped pickup would be far superior (where ~ is double-sided suction) and where | = angleable through 180 degrees?

It is my dream to work at Boston Dynamics. But I’m from a university in a small African country. What advice would you give for aspiring BD team members
Start by building a portfolio. And I dont mean creating a list of your past accomplishments. I mean do some impressive stuff that would win you internet points. Stuff that you would want to post on reddit, youtube or tiktok. When you can showcase that you can do all this stuff by yourself, it makes you appear as a valuable individual as well as self-dependent and therefore be seen as reliable asset as an employee.
When you develop that kind of background, it makes it easy to make that your application to the team. Just ask yourself "what do I think is cool" then research what it takes to make that happen and then make it yourself. This is an extreme way to get a job and super unnecessary, but if you can do it, it will make you hard to ignore, even if you live on a completely separate continent.

A lot of robotics engineers (myself included) are from unrelated backgrounds, so it is quite possible to transition into this career from pretty much any other engineering background.

Why does the stretch manipulator not have a small lip/scoop under the suction plate, that sort of slides under the front edge of the box. Just so it can offset some of the box weigh and rely less on the suction ?

Hi Boston Dynamics. Are there any plans for Atlas to become a commercial product in the future? Like a home assistant for elderly people or a remotely operated robot for dangerous tasks in a scenario shaped for humans (nuclear site, gas leak in a facility, etc) I'd really like to see more humanoid robots out there in the real world!
There are no plans to commercialize the Atlas robot. I do not work for Boston Dynamics, but i got this info from a Boston Dynamics employee during the IMTS (International Manufacturing Technology Show) convention in Chicago.

something i find odd about Boston Dynamic's meet the team videos is that everyone in the videos seems like a PR person
They probably pick people that would be good for interviews and prepare the interviews beforehand. It doesn’t seem like it is just thought of on the spot, it seems scripted. That isn’t to say the person being interviewed didn’t write the script but just that the answers were prepared and practiced beforehand.
Q1.What is the "procedure" to get into Boston dynamics?
Q2. Which "programming language" one should focus on, to get into the robotics field?
Q3. What "skill set" one should possess for making a carrier in robotics field?
Q4. What "courses" one should do in order to join any robotics company like Boston dynamics?

It is very much related, why wouldn’t it be? Mechatronics is a combination of mechanical and electronic engineering, both of which are very important for robotics.

It is much simpler to do rather than having a system to measure the size of the box or a force sensing system to tell when it touches the conveyer.

Why does Strech drop all boxes about 20cm on to the belt? Wouldn’t it be better to set them down gently?

it would add quite a bit of complexity to do as you say, it would have to know the dimensions of every box and calculate the place move every time, or just have another camera that tells the system when box is near the conveyor. also there is risk of crushing a taller boxes. a small drop is so much easier\less expensive, and nothing is going to get damaged from such a small height, i work in a warehouse and have seen merchandise be treated way worse by people, like being dropped inside of a plastic box from waist height onto a concrete floor

Otherwise how would it know were to pick it and where exactly to drop it. The height it dropped the boxes from themed consistent.
I find it odd to pick the boxes carefully only to let them drop on the belt.
Are they hydraulic, pneumatic, stepper motors or what ?.
how fast can it load a truck speaking from experience that would be the biggest time saver you can always round up a team to unload not only that but most pallets come with shrink wrap does it have a blade to cut that and then there is things like some boxes come frozen will the suction cups work on that what about moving chep pallets can it stack them out of the way can it be paired with a forklift attachment to move said pallets or bring a load down from when they stack them because rite now there is a very small amount of applications for this and with such a high price point it is not cost effective to get one
Yeah the robot looks neat but it has a lot of unsolved practical problems. The biggest being the weight of the boxes. A suction can't lift beyond it's weight limit. A way to help it a bit is to introduce a second arm that can support the bottom of the box but if the suction can't lift it in the first place then the second arm is pointless and can't get in to help.
if a truck load is on pallets then Stretch is not the right tool for the job. for standard shipping boxes it is very common for them to be packed the way you see it in the video. it probably would not be difficult to make a remote operated
obotic pallet jack but barely worth it since pallet jacks are already easy and super effective at what they do
@@AmazingKevinWClark most shipping boxes already get weighed so it would be easy to flag a trailer that would cause Stretch to have problems. it would be less complex to just have it stop and let the machine operater/team handle the heavy box. it probably has a sensor that detects if a box detaches from the suction gripper
@@coreysuffield yeah it’s not hard to sense, the pressure in the gripper would drop and the flow rate would increase if nothing is being gripped.
Can GPT-4 write programs to make stretch work ?
It would be interesting if you made a "humanoid" robot using the incredible technology of the legs and arms of the robot that Boston Dynamics has and joining with the powerful GPT-4, this robot could hear, talk, recognize images, walk, pick up things or manipulate the objects around it, it would be more interesting if this "humanoid" robot was affordable to purchase and easy to use

What is the reason to use Linux/Ubuntu operating systems? I assume you have the financial means to use any other operating system you want...

the only reason Linux is slower in terms of popularity and developments because no profits were made.
Once it catch-up, nothing else matters and will always be flexible on any processors chipset x86 x64 ARM ARM64 PowerPC MIPS.
You don't need to reverse engineering it just to make adjustments which is why it is best for developers and servers

Huh? Why would they use anything else? They used QNX on some of their devices, but the development OS is always Linux. All the other robotics conpanies I know do the same. There is literally no reason whatsoever to use anything but Linux, even in real-time applications.
@@vitalyl1327 they are plenty of reasons not to use Linux, especially in real time applications. It is common to have a microcontroller running the real time aspects and a Linux machine telling it what to do.
@@conorstewart2214 of course, if you can use an MCU or an FPGA, you should use them. But if you need more compute power, then a beefier ARM or even an x86 is unavoidable. In this case Linux is perfect - you can isolate one or more CPU cores, set nohz_full for them, disable RCU interrupts on those cores, and then any Linux process running on such a core exclusively, avoiding any system calls (i.e., no context switches) will be suitable for real-time, the only variable timing will be memory access then.
Even better if you're using a heterogenous SOC (such as Xilinx UltraScale+) - you'll get a real-time MCU there, an FPGA, and Linux-capable ARM cores, so you can easily mix and match hard real-time and soft real-time and not-real-time-at-all loads on the same device, all driven conveniently by Linux.
