Hi all, thank you for watching. Sorry it was published earlier than usual. We had made the setting for Premiere and then forgot to add a time. Doh! We did plan on chatting during the premiere, but it might have to wait for other publications now. Hope you enjoy nonetheless!
“Uncle Buck” is another funny John Hughes movie, John Candy and Amy Madigan ( wife in Field of Dreams)and the boy from Home Alone ( can’t remember how to spell his name Maculie Kulkin)and the daughter from Field of Dreams. Cute and funny, Uncle Buck comes to baby sit the kids and of course everything goes wrong!!😂
@@lenbeedle just in my opinion, Dell's lines in that scene delay and dilute the punchline a bit. Not badly, but I could see it contributing to someone missing it, like they did here.
@@noracola5285 I see. Given the cut-scene, I'm not sure how it could be written in differently but I understand the disconnect. Admittedly, it was pretty funny with the addition of the cringed and sweaty facial effect. 😅
OK, I don’t know if it was mentioned in the intro, and I just maybe wasn’t paying attention, but halfway through this I just realized you’re wearing the outfits from the poster. This is absolutely amazing. I love this. You guys are quickly becoming some of my favorite reactors 😅
3:11 D and J: "Kevin Bacon!' D: "What's he doing in this?! I didn't know that!" _Planes, Trains and Automobiles_ is a MCU-adjacent prequel and this is Kevin Bacon's cameo scene...
Kevin Bacon was in another John Hughes comedy film 'She's Having A Baby' (made a year earlier). His cameo in this film was a favor to John Hughes the director.
The rent a car scene is probably one of the funniest scenes in movie history, I was around your son's age when I 1st saw this, it became a family movie every Thanksgiving. They had such great chemistry, Uncle Buck is a great one too John Hughes films are so good hes one of my favorite directors
Yaaaayyyyyyy, this one is really dear to my heart, I'm so happy you got to see this. I love how you two wear outfits to match the main characters. That scene at the end with Del sitting alone in the train station gets me every time, and the grief he's been dealing with for so long. John Hughes included the swearing car rental scene because he wanted to push the movie above a PG rating, so he could explore more adult themes, like grief and adult humour.
Enjoyed your reaction. The reason Steve Martin's voice sounded like he was on helium was to illustrate that he was grabbed in his private parts in such a way that his voice changed for a while.
John Hughes directed another movie “She’s Having a Baby”, which starred Kevin Bacon. During a scene that showed Neil Page’s wife watching TV while waiting up for him, a scene from that movie can be heard. “I’ll have to burn the sheets!”
The subtle hints at Dels wife being dead are incredible. The photo he keeps of her in the frame that you see early on, looks like the portraits that people have next to a casket at a funeral or memorial
I didn't realize this was going to be a premiere, but I'm happy to have jumped in 23 minutes after it started! This was so much fun to watch. It really is a classic movie for a reason. Maybe a little slow compared to today's comedies, but it hits in all the right places. I loved seeing J start to connect all the dots and really feel empathy for John Candy's character. I also think this is the best use of sudden profanity outside of the single word in _The Princess Bride_ which I think is even more well deserved (and by the way, that's a movie recommendation from me!). I'm so glad you enjoyed it and it took your mind off the studio remodel. I can't wait to see when it's finished!
Sorry for the confusion. We had planned for it to be a premiere and made the setting, but then didn't set a time for it. Ooops. But we plan on making more premieres so we can chat during it in future publications.

@@GenerationMediaReaction I literally can't wait. The movie is slightly dramatized, but is also almost perfectly historically accurate because the real-life story is so intense that it doesn't need to be dramatized.

Love this! This movie is believable because the weather is like that this time of year in the Northeastern part of the US. Also, it's 780 miles (1146 km) from New York city to Chicago.
That bit with the cigarette butt fire actually campaigned to me as a kid. My father tossed one out, it landed in the truck box, and ignited a bit of hay that was in there. We caught it in time though. Just a few flames.
I love the dress up...bang on point! I bloody love this film! I cant wait to watch your reaction later. I hope your boy loves it cos its so funny. I know its not a film but could you react to Merry Christmas Mr Bean? And possibly the New Years Eve Party episode pretty please? Haha 😂 Hope the unpacking is going well 🙂
This film is sprinkled with Hughes actors from several films, including the indecisive company boss from the beginning and the old fellow asleep next to Neil on the plane.
Same director as Ferris Bueller's Day Off, that's why there were so many similar actors popping up. Did you notice that the guy in the meeting room with Steve Martin at the start was Ferris' dad? There is a running joke of guys getting a high voice when they get hit in the nuts and that's how that guy picked up Steve Martin at the airport. This gag has been happening since early cartoons and stuff. If I were to guess, the skeletons were a near death experience representation lol I have always joked that sometime after the freeze frame, Dell does something and their house burns down 💀
I knew you'd both enjoy this as it is a very warm-hearted film at its roots - some of the comedy is quite Mel Brooks-ish, such as the skeleton scene or frozen dog. Hopefully you'll run through a couple of his movies eventually, given how funny and quirky his films usually are! Looking forward to more reactions from you. Ciao!
Just woke up and thought, oh gosh my notification must not have gone off! It’s a little early here in Mississippi. 5:50AM, to be exact. But I won’t be able to go back to sleep. It will be good medicine for me today. We lost our granddaughter very suddenly, 7 yrs ago tomorrow; just 2 weeks shy of her 11th birthday. Neil's friend at the office, the airline announcer, and the rental car lady were all in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. PS .. yall should react to Wild Things with Kevin Bacon and Matt Dillon. Awesome movie! Nothing is what it seems......
An amazing, subtle performance by Candy on the part of the drama. Great transitions of boisterous attitude to a nice immediate shift to a fake smile or attitude. Not easy to notice on first watch. And that final scene! He has only seen Neil as a straight and cynical person, that’s only lightened a bit very recently….now he sees full-force the joy and love and tenderness of the family…especially between Neil and his wife. This causes John Candy’s character and his performance to feel incredibly sad for his own loss….but…the brilliance of Hughes’ direction and Candy taking full charge of his acting…being as his character is a loving and care-free and giving person in his soul….. shifts to appreciating the love and joy in the moment….taking it within himself and thus….his enormous smile of joy in the final second! Brilliant! Beautiful! Outstanding! 🙂
The UA-cam channel Hats Off Entertainment did a couple of facinating deep dives on this movie.. one of which was about the "lost version" of this film, which much, much longer (over 3 hours)... it also goes over John Hughes original script, which had few extra subplots that were dropped... like Neil's wife suspecting he was cheating.. since it had happened once before.., and explains the sentimental reunion when she sees Neil wasnt lying about Del. It also featured a conversation between Neil and Dell at a coffee shop after the reveal that his wife died. Many of these extra scenes were inclided on a recent bluray that was released after the "lost version" video.
12:39 I’m not sure if you’ve watched National Lampoon’s Vacation (if not - PLEASE do. It’s a comedy classic), maybe not overseas, but in the US vibrating beds were very popular at hotels in the 1980s. It was kind of seen as an upgrade. To have a bed that vibrates like a massage.
Even if you’re not here with us in the States, Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃 It’s a holiday that gets overshadowed a lot by all the Christmas stuff, but I’ll put this movie up against any Christmas movie, as a strong contender for the season. This is the only movie Steve Martin and John Candy were in together. I wish they had a chance to have done more, but I’m truly thankful to John Hughes for giving us this one. I’m thankful to both of you for the reactions as well.
Great watch, love your reaction videos. One quick thing about kevin bacon; yes, he was filming another john hughes film at the time, she's having a baby. And the scene where Steve martin's wife is in bed watching the telly, the film she's watching she's having a baby! Also, as always with the films of John Hughes, wait until the end credits have finished; there's another scene at the very end. Thanks.
I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but there was a subplot that was cut from the final film, but gives a new perspective on watching the film. So, Neal's wife actually thinks Neal is having an affair. Every time he calls he has some crazy story where he's sharing a room and transportation with this strange man he doesn't even know. So she doesn't believe him. In the end, when she sees Del, she realizes that Neal was telling the truth the entire time. The reaction from the wife isn't just elation that Neal is home, but also relief that he wasn't having an affair.
John Hughes liked to recast certain actors and sometimes included cameos between his films. Kevin Bacon starred in his comedy She's Having a Baby around this same time. Also, the old man snoring on Steve Martin's shoulder in the plane played Kevin Bacon's grandfather in She's Having a Baby. He's also in Home Alone, husband of the woman in the Paris airport getting the panicked mother spiel from Catherine O'Hara desperate to get home to her son. You'll also recognize the Marathon Car Rental lady next.
Speaking of whom (Laurel and Hardy), you ought to try some of their movies sometime. Their Oscar-winning short, THE MUSIC BOX (1932), is a good introduction.
Steve Martin's voice sounding higher-pitched is due to how he was picked up by the guy at the airport, at least I believe that's what the director is trying to hint at.
@@GenerationMediaReaction I altered my voice recordings for this cartoon I was making where the main character is a penguin. I used a high-pitched voice, so I can see how they might take the voice from the scene and perhaps doing something similar.
Jay, this is why you travel. You will see another world and meet very unique people who might at first seem to be uptight or people who have smelly feet and attract wild dogs looking for scraps as they eat but are incredibly caring beautiful people.

Vibrating beds were a thing in the 60’s and 70’s at motels and hotels. They became a sign of a seedy hotel after their popularity waned.

This movie is my annual Thanksgiving tradition. Glad you liked it!
Steve Martin's voice sounding higher-pitched is due to how he was picked up by the guy at the airport, at least I believe that's what the director is trying to hint at.
The strange thing is that it doesn’t sound like Steve Martin acting the voice. The voice sounds ‘altered’ in post production
@@GenerationMediaReaction I altered my voice recordings for this cartoon I was making where the main character is a penguin. I used a high-pitched voice, so I can see how they might take the voice from the scene and perhaps doing something similar.
I love your reactions you're fantastic Greatings from Poland
Glad you like them!
Classic movie
8:45 - that's why they have oxygen masks on board lol
Including Kevin Bacon here is a call back to John Hughes movie “She’s Having a Baby” which also takes place in Chicago.
Definitely consider Uncle Buck and/or The Great Outdoors for some of the best of John Candy.
Neither of us have seen these two, so maybe !
Jay, this is why you travel. You will see another world and meet very unique people who might at first seem to be uptight or people who have smelly feet and attract wild dogs looking for scraps as they eat but are incredibly caring beautiful people.
Amen!
