One of the greatest movies ever.......and as much was cut from original that was actually used (according to Hughes himself).....I am always happy when others find it

I love this movie! It ALWAYS brings tears to my eyes in the song plays at the end~Every Time You Go Away. It was such a huge koss when John Candy passed away. I'm a long time fan of his from way back when he first started out on Second City TV out of Canada. That was long before he ever came to the US and did fikms here. It was mostly a comedy troupe show and a lot of other comedians from the 70's and 80's started out there first. Since you liked this movie so much~check out Uncle Buck next. If you want an awesome moovie with Steve Martin and great cast of so many other actors. Check out~Parenthood, you'll recognize some people from early in their careers. Trust me ill bever steer yiu wrong...i watch movies of every genre and era from the 1920's and also some silent ones up to some recent ones as well. I can send you or post a list of like 40 great titles that spans a few decades dor you guys. IF you ever make it out to NY~let me know! I'M live on Long Island and I'm like 30 miles away! Its only about a little over an hour on the LIRR. But a little less if its the express to get me into Penn Station. Driving in NYC IS "an acquired talent" I will just put it fhat way ok? I lived in Queens for a few years and used to have to commute to work out here. I've been on the back of a motorcycle and hit a pothole and landed on the back fender. We were on the Brooklyn bridge and i was holding onto my fiancees bekt loops. Sooo...he had to AIM for another pothole so he could bounce the bike up and I'd oull on the loops and HOIST myself back onto it! The tires wobbling scene cracks me up...i didn't realize I had a bubble on the inside of ny tire. So it blew out when i was late for work~doing like 70 or so like they were! Somehow after it blew out I went all the way from the right lane TO the left and then i hit the cement divider wall! Then I got control of my car I got back over to the right lane to get off. Then i got into an accident with a 3 ton truck~A DUMPSTER TRUCK! Waste Services of NYC hit my 86 Chevy Cavalier. Yeah, those trucks with the big metal forks in the front clipped me. He came OVER into my lane and there were parked cars on both sides. Somebody had popped up moving van too far onti ghe street. By yhe time he was going past IT he couldn't slow down cuz of the weight of the truck. It's just possible and neither one of us have room to move to the side. I just locked up my kegs and braced for impact. At that point you just know you're getting hit by this truck. SAME car engine wrnt on fute but that sas on Long Island... had to fight the door to get myself out and put it out with SNOW and my ex ran into the apt for pots of water! Sooo...this whole movie is relatable in kinda somewhat similar ways. But trust me, I hadn't had sn accident since I was a kid THEN I got clipped by the truck which I couldn't avoid in my 30's. 😂 So I AM a good driver and erny 20 yrs without issues. BUT IN NYC tgerd just thinhd ghat can happen out of your control. That's why I tell ppl it's an acquired talent because you gotta learn how to dodge ppl cuz THEY'LL CUT YOU OFF off like no tomorrow and use potholes TO your advantage! Ppl drive almost in a constant pissed off state of mind. They're NOT actually pissed off but yiuve GOTTA jockey for positional you're never going to get anywhere here. It'll yake you two hours to get to the freaking bridge 🌉 Come on by, but i will tell you that Chinatown closes early now. That's due to let's business with covid and the rising Asian hate. BUT its still a great place to check out... There's a lot of cool places you can go to for free. MOST of the NYC museums are free anf there's a lot of free concerts and plays in the parks. DON'T DO AIRBNB'S IN NYC...DO IT ON LONG ISLAND, much cheaper AND nicer. Just take the LIRR into NYC~offpeak tix are like $6 i think? There's wats to see NYC without blowing ALL your money doing it cuz flights are so expensive. Let me know if you come my way for real! So happy I JUST found you guys and subscribed today.

One of the best comedies of the 80s. John Hughes did so many fantastic films back then Ferris Buelller's Day Off, Pretty In Pink, Uncle Buck, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, The Home Alone films and many more. The plot here lends itself to great comedy scenarios with Steve Martin as the straight guy, and John Candy as the clown. Funniest part is when the car catches fire. I saw this at the cinema on release, and the audience were nearly choking with laughter. A very poignant ending when we realise Del's wife has died and he is in fact homeless. A shame too that John Candy died so young at only 44 and indeed John Hughes himself died very young only 59. Still he left a great legacy of films, of which this was one of his best.

My favorite comedy movie ever! My hubby went to the bathroom 3:00 a.m., TV was on, and this was playing. I started giggling, told my hubby. We both sat up and watched it and were hysterical. We had to rent the video and watch the whole movie! I loved watching you two laugh and enjoy it too. ❤

There was a lot edited out. The robber was a pizza delivery guy that delivered pizza and the beer spilled on the bed. The wife was upset cuz she thought he was having an affair and the story was more involved with that in original shooting. John Candy's character was a bit less likeable in the original unedited version. Candy was also in the bathroom prior to Neil and messed it up so it wasn't a big surprise when he opened the shower curtain.

There was a whole subplot that got cut, where Neal's wife thinks Neal is having an affair, and is making Del up to cover it. So when Del comes home with Neal, and she finds out he's real, Del is actually saving their marriage.

God bless the great John Candy. All his movies are watchable! And of course, anything by John Hughes! Pro tip, his advertising partner is ferris buellers dad! 😮
Rip to the great one of a kind, john candy. John Hughes, could write movie scripts so fast! Anything john was in was great. Blues Brothers stripes Brewster's millions home alone uncle buck Splash, and on and on. Mostly he had small parts but watch any movie he starred or costarred in. Next should be uncle buck, then stripes. Pro tips...steve martins partner in this is ferris buellers dad! Kevin bacon was in another movie based on this character, He said She said! The plane announcer guy is ferris buellers teacher! The car rental lady is ferris buellers principals assistant! She was a personal friend of Hughes and suggested a clerk do a phone call scene in front of steve. So Hughes gave her the part and it was completely unscripted...she addlibbed the whole thing! The cartoon family guy, does the greatest parody of their motel room arguement scene! The song in the car is by ray Charles, the song he or the kid is jamming to in uncle buck, is also ray Charles!
The End freeze frame the exact same as uncle Buck!
This was Neil's Groundhog day. He had to learn something, before he could get home.
The handshake scene with spit tobacco, was addlibbed, steve martins reaction is real! The song in the car john is jamming to, is by Ray Charles. In uncle Buck, either him or the kid is jammin to another Ray song!
Family guy does the best parody of the arguement bedroom scene!❤. The scene of different faces that steve alone on the train, Hughes just rolled, and didnt tell steve, he was filming! Also the movie was about 45 minutes longer but with a subplot.. Neils wife thinks hes cheating and completely makes up the Del story. When he walks through their front door, she had a surprised and shocked look on her face. He basically saved their marriage! Hughes wrote in other movies, even with Candy, he wasnt credited for such as Animal House, Caddyshack and Stripes, which candy was also in. His next movie he wrote specifically with Candy in mind, Uncle Buck! The first cut of this movie was 145 pages and 4.5 hours!😮😮😮 Candy and Martin did so much improv, eventually they had to quit because they were wearing out the camera ctew! How close were they in real life? When candy unexpectedly died, Martin moved in with his family for several months, to help console them and give them stability. 😭😭😭
