  • I give you my review and thoughts of the Suebi Free-LC and the Last Roman DLC. Tell me what you think.
    Campaign DLC Ratings:
    Fun Factor - 8.5/10
    Faction Rosters - 5/10
    Buy it if you want the campaign fun and the thin roster of the Romans and the Ostrogoths won't be a deal breaker.

      Yep, check the custom battles panel. Only the Ostrogothic Kingdom and the Roman Expedition are playable. The other 3 are not. The Vandal units have also not been added to the MP roster.
      I concluded in my videos that both factions are terrible in multiplayer. :P

    You don't have to preface your review of the Suebi roster with anything lol. The roster is a complete joke. Its a Free LC so I wasn't really expecting anything great, but ANOTHER copy/paste German roster in a game already crawling with dull Germanic factions leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. I understand why they did it (because its easy) but that doesnt make it any less disappointing.

    • @walbert3294

      Thing is, Rome 2's free lc's were great, just look at the Dacians and Emperor Edition. There should be an expectation for free lc to be good, not an expectation for it to be shit, which the Suebian DLC is.

    Ok since everyone seems to be agreeing with you I guess I'll play devils advocate.
    What you seem to forget is that the majority of a region, say Germanic would fight in generally the same way so the "copy and paste" feel would be historically accurate, and the small differences would be in the specialisations, such as the suebi champions that truly separate the factions.
    As for the Roman expedition, you have to take into account that this is basically a army that is meant to constantly be on the move, therefore the it should NOT have the administration and resource capability to produce the more "elite" units. I mean how is an army that constantly moving and fighting going to be able to spend months or perhaps years to train a single unit of soldiers?

      Badger BrownCoat shogun 2 was the last good game.
      In Rome they where more intrested in pushing out dlc and faction packs then to fix there game.
      The entire unit type of pikemen are broken and are still broken in attilla.
      It's a shameful display.
      I will not be buying warhammer or any other title untill they get with it

    • @KaezerMusik
      @KaezerMusik 9 років тому +2

      After recently going back to shogun... you know what I absolutely hate about attila...
      1) Archery. How anti-cinematic is it to volley a shit load of archers from 6 + stacks at one unit... Compare that to the raw epicness of shogun... How do they go from that to this..
      2) Melee Combat. Nope same lame combat from rome. You would think once they did shogun's combat, it would only get more epic. Nope. Just stand around do nothing for 20 seconds against the guy you are fighting. No flow nothing.
      3) Germanic tribes. a.k.a copy and paste. I never bought the dlcs, but after seeing them, I was glad because they are the same shit as what we already had... I thought they had a good excuse with shogun because they are all the same. So i let it pass. but this game holay. IF another DLC comes out with the same germanic archers. Im going to kill some one. Oh wait... suebi. AHHHHHHH.
      4) CA, the only company to successfuly milk people for BLOOD (dlc), 3 games in a row! My ass its about getting the rated T. I doubt that has such a big effect on sales. Look at GTA, the motherlode of sales in gaming history. Imagine if they actually engrained blood splatter, limbs chopped off, etc... you know the thing that happens to everybody in war.
      5) Armor designs. Holy... could it be any worse? Its not like they are trying to be historically accurate. Or else "Comes" would not be a general... these stupid fucks. They are just lazy in design. Copy and pasting as much as possible.
      I really hope they are only lazy because all there efforts is being applied to warhammer. If warhammer is not able to live up to what Rome is expected to. I think CA's core fanbase is gone. Not that it matters... every year new kids are playing games, so they will always come. Especially since they hold a monopoly and are unchallenged in the genre. Why would you cater to the fans if your the only supplier. Take what we give and fuck you. I hope new devs come and challenge them really soon. This is getting ridiculous.

    • @bobsaggat
      @bobsaggat 9 років тому

      Kaezer Musik I hate to say it but don't hold out hope friend. I realised how bad of a sucker punch rome 2 was and had myself hyped up and excited that atilla was going to be an "epic apology game" and everything was going to be epic and better and awesome.
      When you do what your doing your dipping into your reputation reserves for the company. Mine where depleted on atilla.
      Not to mention I am HIGHGLY critical of going anti historical when there's soooooo much they haven't covered. (THE HOLY GRAIL BEING) TOTALWAR: VICTORIA
      Seems they like swords more than guns though shame really

    From what I understand, Belisarius' expedition relied quite heavily on mercenaries to bolster their forces (a prime example would be their use of Hunnic cavalry), which could explain the thin Roman roster.

  • @SimonStrohecker
    @SimonStrohecker 9 років тому +1

    Hey Heir I wanted to know: one of the main reasons I'm waiting for this campaign is to be able to expend in Attila without having to worry about desolated regions which can be really annoying on the grand campaign. How did you feel about that?

  • @FightforDeath34
    @FightforDeath34 9 років тому +1

    Since Suebi is close spain and has quick access to north africa I guess I will just migrate there and pretend im a desert faction... *sigh*
    Well FLC is a FLC I appreciate it anyway.
    For the roman expedition, it seems very fun. I really love the "Conquer for another nation" thing very much.
    But what I am really curious about is how the AI fares in this campaign. Are they lacking like in the grandcampaign? Do they fall in a few turns like WRE and ERE does?
    I usually do not mind unit rosters too much in singleplayer but what I really care about the most is the challenge given and how the other AI factions fare.

    It's sad cause their campaign faction trait is OP!

  • @thomasbedient9191
    @thomasbedient9191 9 років тому

    Disappointing as the rosters are (though, tbh, I find all the rosters in Attila a bit dull), it makes sense when you consider how the units worked in the main campaign. Your units would regularly get upgraded via the research tree, at which point the older units were no longer available.
    This campaign simply takes a slice of time out of that period and gives you the units from that slice.

  • @nguyenkhoinguyen5883
    @nguyenkhoinguyen5883 9 років тому

    Suebi is an amazing faction in MP. Very good cavalry general with 7 javelins, good mid tier sword and one hand axe unit and nice shock cavalry. Both Oat Takers and Suebi Champions have new armor models, which is cosmetically even better than Viking Forefather DLC. Number of new unit does not make good factions, Celts have full new rooster but they are garbage in quality.
    Something that many youtubers always miss in their review is to check if new unit have unique voice over. They are even more important than models or stats, as it give soul to the unit. It does not matter how many new unit you get if all of them yelling the same crap during battle.

    • @walbert3294

      Wolfram What we need is more factions from the middle east instead of germanic.

  • @johnsonlin7829
    @johnsonlin7829 9 років тому

    One possible reason this occurs is due to the fact that for example if CA released a German faction 50% of the community wanted but the other 50% didn't want, CA might want to please the other 50% so they'll release the other German faction the other 50% wanted.Because they are similar cultures though and CA doesn't want to give them different names and a tiny difference in stats that might lead people saying they are copying and pasting and not putting effort into the game, they'll just do that. IDK if this true but I just wish people instead of jumping to conclusions about everything, they'll actually do some extensive research about it before putting forth a conclusion that might not be true.

    I think there are way too many units in the base game and think the smaller roosters of the DLC are nice. The problem is when you mix large rosters and small roster. They just not not work together well.
    And it seems like the Franks shorted again on units and are since just the Germanic faction with the neat shock cav. Which does not even fit with the Franks at this time period. They started to use more cav forces and lances, but the were still a infantry based force centered around the use of the spear. Cav was used often not used to charge into battle with but more of a means to help move heavy infantry onto the field then dismount and fight on foot. At least they have the weapons they were known for. The agathias, a barbed spear that was deadly both thrown and in melee, and the axe the francise(both used by others, but they are more known for them). Just sidelined because infantry is terrible. Heck they even had cav that throw the francise from horseback, if that is not in the game they should have it just to let one of their defining weapons get some spotlight(even if it was not used, would not be the first time CA play loose with facts).

    If you'd see that people only play 1 faction, maybe 2 with each expansion they buy, you'd be less motivated to add that much diversity to the game too. The moment to ask for more unit diversity across similar factions was when R2 came out and we were getting all those DLCs with very little content to offer for the price they charged. With Attila, it's either too late or irrelevant at this point, they took the wrong message from past experiences or maybe that's all the budgets allows for. They added more content that will extend your gameplay that doesn't have replayability value across factions of the same culture. You pick one that suits your play style and you move on or you don't buy. Pretty straightforward if you ask me...

    If you think "copypaste" rosters are such a huge problem you really must have hated Shogun2 then, eh?

    • @walbert3294
      @walbert3294 9 років тому +4

      Yeah, I always found it to be weird how people despise Rome 2 and Attila's rosters for being copypasted, when Shogun 2's literally had 1-2 new units per faction.
      Sure it's all based in Japan, but cmon really? At-least Attila's rosters have like 4 new units at the least per faction!

    • @ZhengIsRight

      It would have been so easy to add variety to Shogun2, JUST ADD CHINA AND KOREA! Japan fought a big ass war with them near the end of the Sengoku Jidai. I find it unforgivable that they AGAIN skimped out on that.

    • @wolftotalwar

      That's because shogun 2 was more balanced, tactical and engaging with its avatar conquest that it more than made up for unit diversity.

    • @SpeCifiC0507
      @SpeCifiC0507 9 років тому

      ZhengIsRight Yes and no. Thing is Shogun 2 is a sequel to the original Shogun (which people loved, including the 2nd iteration). Therefore all it really does is bring the original concept into a much more updated light, for all intensive purposes Shogun 2 is just a massively updated version of the first. Inherently if they changed the game any further from the original people would then of course whine and complain that it "diverted from the original too much" the same principle could be applied to Rome 2 - although its reception was vastly unforgiving with its rather atrocious launch. "Could of and should of" are two very opinionated things when it comes to something that is a sequel, especially if its a very popular one at that.

    • @ZhengIsRight
      @ZhengIsRight 9 років тому

      SpeCifiC0507
      Dude, Shogun2 isn't an updated HD re-release of Shogun1, it's a brand new title and plays quite a lot different from the original anyway. However, even the original featured a non-japanese faction in the form of the Mongols, so there's no reason to deny an Imjin War campaign just for the sake of "staying true to the original".

    you know the thing that really irritates me about unit rosters and the lazy F*** CA they like to copy paste units and recolour them for example vikings forefather they olmost all look the same like wtff??

    isnt the unit variety in attila way higher than it was in shogun 2 or rome 2? i also dont like the fact that every germanic faction has like the same roster with minor differences but its better than it was in rome 2 to me...

      Gobboh Shogun 2...possibly, there were a lot of DLC units. Rome II, not a chance. Some rosters were small in Rome II but the factions were more differentiated than in Attila. All you need for a good faction in Attila is one unit of heavy melee cav and one decent shock infantry. Sprinkle in some cheap skirmishers and boom. That is it. I like the Roman factions (other than I am not sure why there inf sucks so hard and only carry 2 plumbata) and the Sassanids. They seem very well done. The Celts aren't good in multiplayer, but their campaign is fun. Huns are also varied nicely. Just don't like all the Germanics and vikings, they are just too similar.

    Heir, i don't think it's a coincidence that Attila is already cheaper than Rome 2

      Jose Mendez it's a "stand alone expansion", so it wasnt first offered to the market at full price

    Sorry , but this DLC is waste of your money (14,99 euros here in scandinavia). Campaign map is nicely done and the historical immersion with the letters from Belisarius's wife Antonina and the Emperor himself Justinian has so in depth potentially and really brilliant idea but the playability is horrible.This happens when you try to build on something very fragile in terms of programming. I was hoping for optimization but nope. Rome 2 works like dream on my comp with everything ultra but this Attila is crashing constantly. Kudos for the campaign designers but the engine is not optimized.

    Too diverse rosters make the game look super actiony and bad. Rosters in reality weren't incredibly diverse. Prefer it this way.
