- Total War: Pharaoh reviewed by Leana Hafer on PC.
"The new Total War looks incredible, with diverse and interesting battles complemented by an uncommonly deep and rich campaign layer. The focus is firmly on Egypt, and the experiences available outside that region don't really match up in terms of content or quality to what is on offer to the civilizations of the Nile. But Creative Assembly Sophia has refined every part of its take on this franchise since Troy, and the results are just shy of glorious." - Ігри
why are total war games these days centered around a "lord" or a "hero"?
Likely the popularity of the Warhammer series
@@zentonil Apparently warhammer is never centered around ONE character
It comes from the success of Warhammer but it really does not work for historical titles imo. Troy was probably the only one where it sort of worked and even then it was not great. And even in Warhammer you still had the proper factions.
@@XMysticHerox It worked well in Three Kingdoms too, considering the roster had characters like Lu Bu and Guan Yu.
@@Ovendodgerthree kingdoms has records mode which is great and characters are dying normally and there is family tree
Pharaoh is garbage
Unfortunately
There is no No Assyria, no Mittani, no Babylon, no Elam, no Minoa, no Mycenae. History fans should keep going
At least Troy had an excuse as it didn't historically happen.
No excuse here.
So 6 possible expansions. Stick to history, not business.
@@Cthulthu bootlicker
An d it was a free game day 1 this is full price.
@@Cthulthu That's really bad business lmao
Egypt is nice, but the lack of Assyria, Babylon, Elam is so puzzling. Wait for them to finish all the DLC/ faction packs and pick it up when its all bundled together at a reasonable price.
@@alphaspartanit was like 5500 people max at launch
>reasonable price
>"Just wait for the DLC factions that should be in Vanilla in the first place"
@@hannibalburgers477 THIS. Can't believe the reviewer said "It's puzzling" when the reason is obvious - they just want to milk us for DLCs!
Surely you mean you gotta fork out of money for every faction you want to play instead of "reasonable price"
BINGO. And wait for the mods overhaul to make it enjoyable.
Imagine not including Babylon 💀
Thats gonna be dlc
Imagine releasing DLC with the content players are asking for when that was your plan all along, totally not something CA would do.
@@ZahryD says who?
Babylon was before the period of this game so if they did, it would be historically inaccurate
Babylon didn't exist it was rulled by shutruk nahunte and kassites
imagine giving a Troy reskin an 8
Yet it's inferior to Troy. Troy was free too and Mythos is amazing
This is not an 8, what are you smoking? Coming from a TW fan.
So what’s your score if you don’t mind me asking?
@@fgrodriguezqac5 because they made a new game out of a dlc
You haven't played it though...
@kaltinhomer4853 and only 2 playable cultures. Literally less than saga title.
@@borderreaver4615 Is there a hack to unlock the other cultures?
Can't wait to find out how perfectly balanced this game is with no exploits whatsoever
exploits arent automatic, you can always ignore them and try to stay historical and balanced instead of just spamming a specific unite just because its Meta . this is why Roleplaying is best way to enjoy a game . its not about finding exploits and winning , its about living the narrative and being realist on how you play
@@LauftFafaI think the guy above is referring to a spiffing Brit video about to drop
There will be a Brit
Yes!!! This !!! So many people hating on this just because it’s the popular thing to do but im pumped
Enter "Spiffing Brit"
Only 50 user reviews on steam for Pharoah (For release day)... Rome 2 has 45,000 over the course of many years, and the fairly new Warhammer 3 has 63,000. I'm glad CA managed to make a game neither side of the community buys.
WH3 is so much more of a game since it build off of 1 and 2. Pharaoh is just another TW game setting, and arguably less interesting. It was a poor business decision imo, as many people aren't into historical as much. Plus, if they are they have so many other games that cover that already.
@@kurtloban3664 idk about people not being into historical kinda a reach, if CA came out with a new Empire game or Medieval 3 i can assure you there would be massive hype
@@kurtloban3664The problem is not Pharaoh being a historical game. It’s just a really mediocre historical game set in a very specific period and location that few asked for. People obviously want medieval 3 for example. Yeah, medieval 2 does exist, but it’s extremely dated. Just because they already have a game set in that period doesn’t mean they can’t revisit it.
@@kurtloban3664bro the core consumer of tw is a historical fan with over 38k people playing the older games dayly
Pharoah is just a lesser Troy - which was free on epic.
Why get Pharoah when Troy is better and free?
How many $9.99 and $24.99 DLCs can CA scrounge up for this TW? 10?
60 dollars is just a down payment to play a TW game now.
0 because no one is going to buy the base game.
Do you really think anyone will buy this Troy DLC?
So this is where most of CA budget went. Buying reviews.
Or you are just a hater
Or he is right. @@tylerman39
Eh doubt they have to. IGN always gives 8/10 for AAA games. Maybe a 7/10 when the game is complete garbage like BF 2042.
@@tylerman39No, definitely not a hater. Just not a low IQ fanboy like *Tyler* over here. What a Tyler thing to say
@@tylerman39Bootlicker
Unfortunately, CA is gonna interpret the tepid response to this game as "our history games dont sell anymore" and not "the fans want a full, refreshing history TW with a new engine thats not just a reskinned Sagas"
Yes, that is the true tragedy here. It isn't that the market demand is low but that what they put out into the market is not what TW Historical title fans want. Medieval 3 or Empire 2 would have sold like hotcakes but they are intent on making new titles, which on its face is fine, yet they do a very bad job.
Is Moses gonna be in the Mythos DLC?
8.... LOL :O They have not improved AI, Morale, so combat = slug. Really poor version and it shows CA lost it's roots to the Total War franchise.
didnt know pharaoh still does reviews after all these years
Totally
😂😂😂😂
Thanks for making me laugh :)
Is there any type of population, family tree system, trade system beyond just "trade with x faction"? Can the special generals die? speak of these things ya madlad
Sort of (workforce) but it's meh, nope, not really unless you pick a specific tradtion for caravans (they are like Cathay in WH3), nope unless the faction is wiped
And yes bad review.
Honestly after getting more into paradox games, it's hard to go back into total war because the diplomacy, politics, trade, population dynamics etc feel so surface level
The battles can be fun but if you do not care for that there is little reason to not play a PDX game instead. @@Sloppygator9309
Couldn't be less excited for a new Total War game.
They could just drop medieval or empire and sell a million times more copies
At least they are trying new ideas.@@jdkoz98
@@jdkoz98 They got enough money off of the Warhammer series that they decided not to listen to the community lmao
@@l3igl3oi73 It's more like they're still just focusing on Warhammer series at this point and historical just gets tossed in a back burner.
This isn’t a new RW game it’s DLC for Troy
£49.99 for what feels like an expansion to Troy 2 which in it self was pretty poor imo
Wake me up when Medieval 3 releases 🥱
If they don’t mess up Medieval 3
even the lack of comments on this "review" shows how much community cares about this "game"
Wow Leana you gave CA a free pass on these atrocious battles.
TJ became an official court eunuch so don't be too surprised
Luckily game developers can always count on IGN to lie for them (for a price) whereas all independent reviewers are burning the game down. This one even sounds like he's parotting a script given to him without ever having played the game.
Lol exactly......
This person is confused about their sexuality, what do you expect?
They don't know what real TW is lol
Why don't they do Medieval 3??? It's really bizarre at this point, MTW3 has been the most requested title in the genre for over a decade.. They are clearly capable of doing exactly what they are doing but with a medieval theme. It's actually very strange they are so adverse to it. Do they not want money?
Nah would more prefere a repolished medieval total war 2 than a new one. Less potential to mess it all up again ;)
A refurbished shogun 2 total war would make me cry with joy :)
I’d rather have medieval 2 remake or Empire Remake
Based on the comments made, the verdict sounds more like a 6 than an 8. It looks like a saga compared to 3k. Taking on a leader and not a faction makes me feel like a 3k. While appropriate there, it isn't here.
Yeah, this is more a side project to bring in some money while we wait for the next major release. Now that they are done with Warhammer, I'm really hoping we get Medieval 3 with the update engine. We got Rome 2....it;s time for Medieval 3!
It IS Saga. And it was dead in arrival
6 is being awfully generous. I'm thinking more like 3 or 4, just for the shady POS business they're pulling and this DLC Troy reskin being sold at full price.
@@damondriver6363 Yeah sure... my point was, based on their comment, "8" seems laughable. It was like they wanted to be critical, but didn't want to upset CA execs.
Where is info : video was sponsored by CA?
Doesn't need it since you probably know it already
An 8 seems a little generous when every youtuber that covers Total War is panning this game.
Yea reviewers are either afraid of giving honest low scores or are straight up incompetent, these days a mediocre game is given a 7, makes no sense the scale is 1-10 not 6-10,
Maybe he likes the game 8 much.
@@lexodius yea but reviewers should be unbiased and review the games objectively, the game might be an 8 for him, but he still needs to review it objectively and give a score without bias
@@MauroJesus100 reviews are always opinions. he said what he liked, what he didn't like and what his overal OPINION was.
@@lexodius But that's not how it should be, reviews should be a mix of opinions and objective analysis, it's ok to say you liked a game as a reviewer, and for you it's an 8, but you still should be objective and give a unbiased and proper score, sure for him this game is an 8, but as an IGN reviewer the official score should never be an 8
We’ve been waiting for an Empire remake for how long now? And we get this.
wake me up when empire 2, medieval 3, or rome 3 comes out...
Got you homie 🤝
ok, we getting the hibernation we needed
Man every other video ive seen of this game say it's disappointing and not worth 60 dollars...
IGN "reviews", always take them with a very thick grain of salt.
Really cause all the total war players ive seen play it actually like it.

@@sweetpapad4674Do you have schizophrenia or do these "total war players" actually exist?
@@sweetpapad4674 Who lmao? game has like 500 players already
Not a mention of whether there are naval battles? Can you start a dynasty? What age does the average character die of old age and what goes into training an heir?
Nope. Sort of. No character deaths, no heirs.
Trusting IGN's reviews is laughable. This game is a 5 at BEST.
Who would've known, extreme greed IS counterproductive
8/10?! Are you serious?! Looks like a 4/10 for a historical Total War full game.
In reality it's a 5 at $30 and a 2 at $60.
Why doesn’t anyone see or admit that everything has only gotten worse? Total war ROME was much more beautiful and interesting. It’s a pity that the current community is ready to eat everything that is offered to them
We needed victoria total war or Empire 2
Why picture is so dim most of the time?
Is there an option for just peaceful city building? or is it all war?
7:45 The reason the map is cut off is because there will likely be a third title - Total War: Assyria (or Babylon) - that will make a ginormous combined campaign map with Troy and Egypt. It will be the Immortal empires of the historical series.
Would the theme Stone Age be our next installment? 🤔
Wow... Didn't even mention the campaign customization
I've played this game and honestly, I'm wondering if we played the same game.
We are near the end of 2023 and ign is still @ 1080p.
My opinion on the game has changed slightly after CA took the massive decision to admit they have disappointed the fan base and even decreased the price two months after release. They know themselves that they have to earn back the trust of the fans at large. Specifically the historic Total War fans.
Ill wait for "Special edition" version to come out with all DLC.
Pharaoh looking more like a basketball American than an ancient Egyptian ruler
Lol
Seems more like an android total war version than a proper pc game
How have the graphics not gotten better since Attila?
IGN is just garbage for reviews now
Always has been.
Always, just watch them to see gameplay
Who watch IGN for game rating anymore
Wait, you are saying there are only two nations here?
Still waiting for medieval or rome or empire new game
You have 2 titles of medieval, 2 titles of rome and almost 2 titles of empire, but you don't have bronze age total war..! It's time for some diversity baby!
@@themanfromthefargalaxy7656 what kind of argument is that ahahahha, medieval 2 and rome one came out 15 years ago, even rome 2 is 10 years old now
Just wish they would make a game that entails all of ancient history leading up to total war empire already.
What it sounds like to be a schill
how could IGN with such horrible reviews still stay relevant, the deffrence between them and players feed back is so wide, all journalists are hacks these days even in gaming.
would have made a nice DLC for Troy...

@@devinphillips8085 Are you serious? Of course it would be smaller. Pharao was still meant to be a DLC for Troy. But in the end they decided to make it its own game.
@@devinphillips8085
Yeah, DLC can include a new campaign map, you know, just like many of their other DLC that included a campaign map.
As for "8 new factions", no, it's 3 new factions as 8 lords.
Playing Egypt with 5 different rulers is just still 1 faction.
Hittites were known for their heavy war chariots
Pharaohs curse
When IGN give a game an 8/10 you know it's gonna be bad xD Everything IGN review now no matter how bad it may be gets a high score *face palm*
I'll wait until 2025 to grab this, no rush whatsoever.
Can you not play as Judea?
hoping for dlc is where the issues lie.
we shouldn't hope for dlc for content that SHOULD have been in the BASE game.
can we have some honesty please IGN? Ain't no way your reviewer can say in one sentence that stuff is missing and it feels incomplete, only to then also say they hope it will come in dlc.
the stuff isn't there in the first place because they plan on releasing it as DLC.

scary part is that they are talking about DLCs. Please don't make DLCs for this game, put your energy on other things. Noone asked for this game.
This is something I've been waiting for. Forget all the mythological Warhammer titles. Been looking for something new in the style of Rome 2. I'll have to get this for sure. Still awaiting a modern warfare type of Total War game.
for a modern total war game check out total conflict
Not a snowball or a sandball, a dungball!
At what point will IGN just give an honest review? 😂😂😂
IGN you’ve got to be trollin
Yeah no
Medieval: Total War ...make it or remaster the old one. This is just not it.
This is as barebones as we've seen since Shogun 1 no way this gets higher than a 6
Did a pharaoh actually review this? Chick bait!
It's clearly Troy expansion and this guy saying it feels like a fresh Experience 😂

They should’ve put the kingdoms of Sudan and Ethiopia in this also Babylon
"Famous studio" 8/10 IGN
IGN, why not 10/10?
Because it is a 4/10
Most of the TW fan base asked for Medieval 3, Empire 2 or Shogun 3. And they keep dishing out expansions games which can be DLC for bigger projects 😂
an IGN 8 is an IRL 6
8, lol. This game is a 4 if being generous.
Someone confused about their sexuality, makes a review confused about the game 😂😆
This game is a total disaster
Looks muddy and dark
This is a saga, not a full historical total war. it’s a 5.5 and more people are playing medieval 2 than pharaoh on launch.
(Because some people still play on disc so steam analytics won’t reflect this)
This is just a Saga game without the saga name.
Come on, IGN… 8/10? Did CA threaten to cut back your allowance?
Uhh sure... "Leanna".. thanks for the totally impartial and honest review.
It must be all the fans who are wrong about this being another step in the wrong direction in the long road downhill since Shogun 2.
Сколько креативы занесли денег IGN?
Really makes you feel like a Pharaoh
Inbred?
Old and rotting in the inside?
Honestly props to CA for taking a risk with a new time period. Hopefully they continue to refine and improve it
Taking a risk ? Trig’s was supposed to be a saga game hence why it’s made by studio Sofia. This is a money grab not a risk
Thanks CA stooge
John Samuel works for CA, folks. Don't believe a word he says
Why did they make a Pharoh black. That just ruined it for me dam it. Why not make the Samurii black
Leana! What have you done?

the DLC would have to be bigger than the base game for this game to be fixed
The comments are all over the place, lol.
They gave it an 8
5 more points then it deserves. it feels like its smaller than DLC for a total war game 10 years old.
If only it was out of 20...
This is a 10/10 why 8?
It sounds like this is half of a great game, kind of like Warhammer 1 back in the day.
even warhammer 1 had double the content this game has.
Basically, the DLC they've already started working on should have been included as the other half of the game.
How much did you sell your soul for this time IGN?
seems like a 6/10
Combat seems meh. The campaign map looks great but there is a reason why I'd chose to play ME2 over this. Im hoping modders can do something to fix combat but doubtful.
Combat has been broken on a foundational level since Rome 2.
Why release a full game when you can part it out for that sweet DLC money.
Nope
10/10 MUST PLAY
9/10 worth to try it
8/10 nahhhhh maybe
7/10 dont waste you time
