Gary Moore's version at Monsters Of Rock is exceptional i feel. His skill with that white Explorer, its roar and sustain and his often overlooked singing, a phenomenal performance.
What does Paul Rodgers, now 71, do to keep so young? Without a doubt one of the best voices in rock. I'm 64 and was a teenager when Free were at their prime .
I modelled my voice on this guy at the age of 14. I'm still trying! Now 71 and playing live gigs, I praise Paul Rgers as one of the gretest rock voices of all time.
I have never seen an aged singer nail it like that and sound just as good as he did when he was a kid. I can't name another singer from that era that sounds as good now as he/she did back then, but Paul Rodgers does it somehow. (edit) 2:35 Holy guacamole, that' some singing.
50 years ago Free did this.Paul sounds as good or better now.Free, Bad Company, on and on..Blessed with the best rock voice ever..Maybe if Ian Gilliam hadn't tricked up his voice. But Paul does the same Octaves..EXACT..Love and a PEACEFUL 🌎!!
That’s cool at the end when the band momentarily fades and Paul holds the mic around the diaphragm and belts it out. You young uns take note of this singer.
The last time I saw Paul Rodgers was in NJ about 15 or so years ago. Any longtime concert goer knows outdoor sound is total shit. Not Paul. It was about 2 hours of a hit filled masterclass. The man is like a machine. Stunning. Only wish he'd done Seven Angels. Oh well.
I got goosebumps and tears in my eyes and that is not often these days. First time i listen to this live version, always loved the song and always loved his voice, but as it said down below in the comments oh God that man can sing
I’ve loved Rogers voice, but I have to say Lou Graham has the voice over Steve Perry and Rogers, which is saying a lot, since they’re all considered some of the best voices of all time!
After almost 50 years since the song first came out, the voice of Paul Rogers hasn't wavered one bit. The man and his music is timeless! FREE is barely appreciated NOW for ALL the music it made LONG ago.
Its all my humble opinion of course, but for my money this is the finest R&R front man of all time. Forget about your Mick Jaggers, your Roger Daltrys and your Bon Scotts.
I remember being in a bar in Thailand it was 2 in the morning the Beatles were on the t.v this guy was saying how good they were . He came up to me preaching about them I said really he asked me don't you agree my reply they were good but my choice free Bad company or just mr Roger's job done .
i saw this band before paul took over. they started out in the roman bath in york. the original vocalist was on ken bruce's pop master, recently. he had health problems so he had to stop gigging. fantastic fella. wouldn't harm a fly.
A friend of mine in childhood was playing with his dad's gun... didn't think it was loaded... it was. This song always makes me think Of Ron Ailles. RIP brother, you went way too young. Still miss your smilin' face. I hope your family learned to deal with it better in time. It was not their fault.
What a prophet Paul Rodgers is in life! I am in my 60s. Whether it was the Vietnam Conflict (that is correct - our sleazy politicians did not declare war denied those who survived benefits), heroin addiction, fentanyl addiction, homelessness, abusive taxes to the non-rich, divorce and love - GLOBALLY. The "yeah me f-you attitude is so toxic. What do all people need and want - "love and a peaceful world". Thant you Paul and Free Spirit.
This brings tears to my eyes....such a wonderful memory for me. I loved Free. You never expect the live performance to be as good as the studio one, but this was fantastic.
Awesome. Remember it well. Still in our band's set list today. Amazing voice. In E minor to start but half way through changes key and goes up 5 semi tones which is half an octave to A minor - (E to F); (F to F//); (F// to G); (G to G//); (G// to A); and Paul Rodgers effortlessly nails it because it demonstrates his amazing vocal range. Wonderful.
This master of voice is never iff wvwn when feeking off ir backups mess up his make ups and flairs are just always ALWAYS akways constructive. Not empty n pointless. Wow wtf. At 33 i STILL wish i can get a fraction the level paul has long live paul at some point. Phenomenal. Only Glenn and Paul left since Dio left us in 2010 (Glenn & Paul Dios fav singers btw)
Always had and still has the best voice in rock ! What a performance by everyone ! As medical issues force me to accept my mortality musical memories stir emotions ! Cried the whole way thru ! Not sad just happy to have had music like this thru my youth. Keep on rocking !😎👍
There are hundreds of lead singers from top bands from this era who are wondering how Paul Rodgers has kept that voice of his all these years. Remarkable!
I'm from Scotland and rember seeing free when they played in Glasgow many, many, years ago , maybe around 50 plus years ago and Paul Rogers was just as good then. It was phenomenal to see them then and sad to think that two of the bad have now passed. Look up their performance at the isle of wight concert on Google.
Followed the great man since the 70's loved everything, inspirational.Really nailed it with FREE SPIRIT capturing original free sound including Koss like guitar . AWESOME !!!👍👍👍
Paul Rodgers is the best lead singer of any rock band by a million miles
He's stunning, but no Ian Gillan.
Ive seen both of them live and believe me , it's not even close. Ian Gillan is a screamer, whilst Paul Rodgers is a singer.
@@tomedwards1879 Nah. Gillan has a great range. The screams were just dynamics that were the icing on the cake.
@@grobbler1well ive seen them both live. Im telling you Gillan is not in the same league. Not even close

One star who actually looks as though he is enjoying himself
God, that man can sing. Sounds as good as he did in 1970.
Saw him 4 years ago at DTE in Clarkston and I'm wowed
Better!!!! I seen FREE at the Syndrome when I was a junior in high school.
Bad ass song love bad company Do.To.Do.
Wonderful soulful voice. And he still has it,hasn’t lost it. Aren’t we lucky to still enjoy him!
Why is this guy not in the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame!?!?!?
Because the RRHOF is stupid
Because he's not good enough

Wow, what a voice, that's a real rock singer. Great song.
I used to wake up to this tune when I was 13 to do my paper round. I am now nearly 60.
As good as the recorded version from way back when……he hasn’t lost it!
I have never seen an aged singer nail it like that and sound just as good as he did when he was a kid. I can't name another singer from that era that sounds as good now as he/she did back then, but Paul Rodgers does it somehow.
