I wish they would've let Dai do a hot lap around the track in the Model 3 and then let Jeremiah try and beat it in the GT3RS
What true gearhead would want a modded model 3 over a GT3RS? No comparison.
@@993mike Nah, EVs are cool AF. You don't need to be _riding a glorified _*_vibrator_* that _makes loud noises_ just to feel "cool", you know. \s
Especially the racing EVs I mean _(the Model 3 in the video isn't it btw; I mean actual racing & kit cars)._ With those you can more easily feel the car & the road in terms of tactility & the actual sounds that the tires make on the road, as you don't have a loud AF engine that muffles all the other sounds around & under you.
yeah the person who drove both cars was shitting on the tesla the entire time
My thoughts exactly... Let the guy know the car drives it. Like putting me in a Formula 1 car and the time looks like crap and saying that the car is no good...🙄🤦
the reason why jerry drove both cars even when he’s shitting on Tesla is he’s a qualified race driver with a racing license. Dai is actually comfortable with jerry driving his car. And the differences between both cars after a hot lap is drumroll 57ms. And when they do time attacks they try to do it multiple times more than 1 lap with warmup take the best lap time. Even the gt3 could get less time when did on multiple laps
Dai seems cool as hell.
Bro is basically working retirement right now
I followed his Formula D effort, years ago. He's pretty cool guy. Also his english got much better.
Dia's farther is an all time legend.
No, totally not, dai drives electric cars
he's gonna be a cool old wise man when he gets old :)
It's really impressive that Dai dialed in a car that was essentially uncharted territory in the time attack or performance modification scenes
I had a Model 3 for a few years. It was fantastic to drive, and I really loved the experience. I only sold it when the second-hand market went crazy a year or so ago because I was able to get almost all of my money back for a 3.5 year old car. Having owned and lived with one for a long time, I don't understand all the negative comments people are always very eager to share with me about EVs.
Those people are almost always people who have never owned one, and most haven't even driven one. They sure speak with authority, though. It's eye-opening to see how wrong people are, but they sure believe they are right.
I own a model Y long range. I can’t even with all the truck drivers wanting to race me all the time. It’s kind of cute, ‘cause 90 percent of them would lose. I obviously don’t engage, and I live in Maine with a lot of hicks 😂😂😂
While I was waiting for my Plaid to be delivered, I rented a '20 992 Cabriolet for a few days, and then a Model 3 long range for a week. Everyone will call me a liar, but the Model 3 was more fun to drive than the Porsche. Driving them back to back was eye-opening. I know the Porsche is faster every way you measure it, but the model 3 felt faster. The PDK is awesome, but the EV's constant power is better. The Model 3 was like driving a big go-kart, it was really easy to feel what the car is doing and really easy to control it. The single pedal driving makes it really easy to balance the car in corners. My prediction is that the Boxter EV will be the best sports car ever.
Many people love jumping on the bandwagon of hating Tesla even though it's a decent car.
@@75yomu Decent car? LOL. For 30K less than a BMW M3, the Tesla M3 smokes the bimmer, with instant acceleration, way better features, way safer, updates over the year, drives itself, miles ahead better software, charges at home, doesn't pollute, is silent, etc, etc. Decent? Teslas are the best cars on the road, bar none.
Guys I wanna see a full dang lap. Let us watch in car footage of the two cars going around uninterrupted
Absolutely. This video could have easily been 25 minutes and provided much more detail without being boring
I agree. The editing is great everywhere else but the laps are too interrupted. Gears and Gasoline has this down perfectly
I’ve got full laps in my Tesla on my channel.
So many channels are doing annoying editing now and they say it's for "retention". Imo they should keep short form style content on yt shorts and not try to mix them and make the long form content suffer the same terrible fate.
Yeah this is something ive been complaining about for many years now. Many videos could be much longer and have much more detail.
the DRS on the porsche is insane!
Edit: guys chill i just meant it looks cool cause we can press a button and it activates cause we dont get to drive f1 cars so this is the only we can access manual drs, active aero etc.

Why?
One is 100 years plus of development the other is garbage
@@Becausefamilycardumbass
@@Becausefamilycarhow is it garbage if it had basically the same lap time 😭
an interesting perspective I’ve realized this year driving multiple cars on the same track back to back is that the driver may actually be the limiting factor in regards to lap times in the sense that a person has a certain confidence level or sense of speed they wont go past, and that leads to very similar lap times between cars whereas the cars might be able to go around the track faster than the driver thinks it can. It’s extremely hard to extract 100% potential out of a car without having a substantial amount of time behind the wheel.
I don't think anyone is doubting that the driver was the limiting factor for the lap times in this video. That being said, I would bet that Jeremiah got faster laps than most of us could (he does have some good experience - Skip Barber). Rather than looking at athe driver as a limiting factor, look at the driver as a controlled factor when it comes to testing. For example, if you put Verstappen in either of those cars, and Jeremiah in the other, Verstappen will have the faster lap. The results of the test infers that if you put most experienced drivers in both cars, the GT3 RS will have a slightly faster lap time....but I want to see more testing between these two cars!
this exactly
If we put him in a VW Passat, do you think the times would be in the same ballpark?
These lap times being this close is indicative that you don't have to go GT3RS (unless you got the money and desire to) for an incredible car
@@jerkfrags7253 On the other hand is the "fastest" car even fastest if there is only 1 person in the world that can drive it that fast? Ease of driving and confidence that car gives is really important because ultimately everyone wants to drive fast without putting thousands of hours of practice time.
@@JollyGiant19 I think the arguement is that both of these cars could probably go faster. Because its 1 driver, driving 2 different cars he is not used to, we're not gonna be able to see the actual difference. I can totally see those times being the most hes willing to push a car he doesn't own and is not fully comfortable driving.
With all due respect, I feel like driving was a limiting factor in this comparison - one practice lap can't be enough to start pushing.
Not unless you’re Randy Pobst
especially with a car like the gt3rs ...id imagine that you can push this thing to levels that you don't feel comfortable with at first ^^ but they entertaining regardless
Yea the gt3 is going to be trickier to drive than the Tesla , cuz like he said in the video you have to do less in the Tesla

Dai should've gotten a go in his Tesla, he probably knows this car inside out.
It would be an unfair competition then you would have to have someone whi knows how to drive the Porshe just as well as dai knows how to drive the tesla
@@thenaughtylemonethat’s the thing. The guy knew Porsche already but knew nothing about a Tesla.

If it’s the battery tech, then you really should look up solid state batteries, they will change EVs for better on massive ways.
There are Tesla racing accounts around, if you want to look for them. One of them, Unplugged, does top end Tesla modifications and have top racers drive them in events such as time attacks and pikes peak (among many other things they do) Check them out
Dont get me wrong, the Tesla is hands down incredible and the build they did for it is nothing short of spectacular. But it had to be said that the biggest factor for the laptime being so close is, what looks to be, the racing slicks that it is driving on. No matter how much aero, power of suspension tuning you do. The tires will always be the most important in the end. The porsche was on Cup 2 tires, which are incredible tires but nowhere near to slicks. Imagine if the porsche had those slicks!
Both cars were severely underdriven, My model 3 with just 200tw tires can do 1:19's around streets of willow.
I don't know that I agree. With the times being so close, the biggest factor was the driver. Nothing against Jer, but it's more likely he unintentionally cautioned himself several times.
I'm sure if we had the track footage we could see it. Again, with times that close and cars that different, I'm looking squarely at the driver over everything else.
@@adamsfusion Let's be real. He's not that great of a driver. When he came to Australia he was way off the competition. Plenty of pro drivers rock up at tracks they've never done and are within a second of the pole within a few laps.
Well one thing I noticed is he appeared to be able to find his line quicker in the GT3 and proceeded to fine tune, where as the MP3 he was constantly readjusting his line (lots of wiggling of the steering wheel). That says MP3 should have been faster granted cause it was on slicks: not only better tire but the only thing keeping MP3's weight vs grip in check.
@@stevencase243sounds about right. People are scared to push the limits.

Timestamp: 5:45 "my personal favorite car of all time"
Bro has a new favorite car of all time each episode.
And the car is new! How can it be ''of all time''?
Interesting that with relatively modest modifications a Model 3 can be a quick track day car.
There aren't many $50k road cars you can say that about.
I wonder if we'll start to see software mods for track day Tesla's, to take exploit some of the possibilities that electric motors should allow, such as torque vectoring.
Bros had a whole ass pro raceway driver at their disposal. And we're like "nahhhh" 😂
a few videos ago the type R did a 1:24 around the track, surprised to see the GT3RS didnt just absolutely blow it out of the water!
3 seconds on a track this small Is a huge difference
he probably had more laps to practice with the type R, but yeah, suprised by it too
it's a tiny track. pretty much every performance car they drive on it is within 10 seconds of eachother, most are within 5 seconds. 3 seconds is a pretty big difference.
In spite of having a motor that sounds boring AF, the new CTR really seems to have the necessary value proposition. Still not OK with owning a DGI motor myself, but thats another convo.
Track this small three seconds is easily five or six car lengths

if you offer a racer a modified Tesla as an alternative to a GT3 RS, it's like giving a pianist a Casio digital piano as an alternative to a Steinway grand piano. Yes, it also has 88 keys and sounds similar, but all the little subtleties come together to create an overall experience that can't be compared. And that's also the reason, why it's so much more expencive

Also the lack of range.
I think because the build isn’t that expensive especially compared to gas cars. They have aero, custom front bumper and hood. Custom carbon fiber doors, weight reduced which costs nothing, and bucket seats with harnesses which you would have in any race car. You don’t have to put any money into the motor so it’s pretty cheap as track built cars go.

The fact that Gt3 can achieve more with 6 cylinders than some V8 cars can, is incredible.
Is it? The # of cylinders is so overrepresented in most peoples idea performance. It really is alot less important than so many other factors
Some v8s? Almost every v8 can not keep up with a gt3rs on a track
Cylinders don't really matter on track

My dad owns a Tesla and I can say it's fun if you can let yourself have the fun. I know some people who will just not let themselves just enjoy the technology that it has. At the same time I think combustion motors should be able to continue in some way. Great video
I don't find anything wrong with EVs but I recognize they are not for everyone so I don't think they should be forced on everyone by the government. People should have a choice. I looked into buying one last year but they are not in my price range. I absolutely don't find EVs appealing for racing because of the limited customization that's available. Combustion engines come in all different sizes with nearly an infinite number of aspects that can be changed to alter performance for different types of racing. Camshaft profiles, changes to spark timing, turbochargers, exhaust header tube length, gear ratios, etc are aspects that let each car become unique. EV don't have most of that. Aerodynamics and suspension tuning looks to be about it. The heart of the whole thing is stock. While they are quicker and faster, than combustion engine vehicles, I'm a gear head and I don't feel a connection to the EVs for racing because they are off the shelf with no real customization and no sound. I've been to NHRA Drag races, NASCAR races, Formula 1 races, etc and I could not imagine there being no sound! It's like EVs have no soul.
Tesla’s are just trash. The owner of the company is a trash human, the car quality is trash. The only saving grace it has is being electric, good charge mileage & having a charging port that’s the most accessible right now. The design is subpar at best. Mods on it make it look even more less appealing.
It's always the middle that is better for everyone and that is Hybrids. Literally best of both world. As much as I love ice cars I also love Hybrid. Ya I know world is evolving and all I 'car enthusiasts' part of me loves every car including the tesla but my 'petrol head' part would refuse to even look at evs and I know quit a lot of people who thinks that so ya Hybrids would be better future if given enough work and time.
@@edj2022 It's still a long time before any bans come in and tbh I doubt you'll be able to even find retailers still bothering to design and release new fossil cars by 2030. Even now most are putting basically all their r&d into EVs.
although you get the best of both worlds, you also get the worst of both worlds. You have a battery, a motor and an engine all wearing down and having their own issues. As evidence of this, hybrids have more car fires than ICE and way way more than EV alone. I like the benefits you get from hybrid but I do think the best option will be some future EV with ~500 mile EPA range and 20%-80% charging in about 10-15 mins. Until that exists I think they all are a compromise. Just my 2 cents though, as someone who has been driving all electric for 6 yrs.@@deletedaccount573

I'm actually so excited to see that battery radiator mod on the Tesla Model 3. It was the first thing I thought of when it came to building performance mods for EVs beyond the obvious stuff like weight reduction, and I'm glad to know my thoughts were right! I'd love to see what happens when you do this to like.. a Plaid
the issue is you can't cool battery packs fast enough. There's always a lag between heat generation and the cooling system being able to compensate. You have to move that heat from the battery packs to the radiation system and back. Batteries, under full load, can produce way more heat than most systems can mitigate. EVs are good at quick bursts of performance but they still lack the ability to maintain that performance. It's getting better but they aren't there yet.
@@CRneu Liquid cooling has entered the room
@CRneu absolutely, even liquid cooling only goes so far. My thought initially was a nitrous or nitrous-adjacent system that, rather than blowing super dense air into the fuel system to increase combustion, was to just flush super compressed (and subsequently much colder) liquid nitrogen over the batteries in an attempt to flash-cool them. It'd require a lot of testing and I have no idea if that would be *nearly* enough cooling potential, but being able to port nos into EVs just for a different use case sounded so cool. Especially for show builds where EVs are already bagging their cars and putting the compressor tanks in the frunk. Just do that but with nos
See the dark helmet plaid driven by Randy pobst. 👍🏻😎

Eloquently said
But tesla's were never supposed to be used as high performance vehicles? they are commute cars? You can say the same thing as a hellcat, or any muscle car, it is quick, but once you turn, its over.
@@NethercraftMC That's why you own a non American fast car that handles.
@@neth77 exactly but teslas aren’t the only comparison
I love how happy Jeremiah seems being able to drive these two cars! Literal coming true!
Awesome!
Why didn't they let Dai track BOTH cars?
And can everyone please share this video with the EV haters at Savage Geese??
Thanks Dai for making this video possible
This why I like Porsche 911 GT3 RS in this video already
Worth mentioning that everyone who does race car stuff knows, you as a driver get faster with each lap. Part of that is fuel weight loss, part of that is level of comfort, but the Tesla its the opposite peak power is the very first lap. But I have to say, that's pretty sick and it makes me want a Tesla tbh. To have a car that keeps up with a gt3 rs around a track, that probably costs half after those mods, and way less before the mods. Very cool
"is the EV as good as the Porsche on a track"
"We can't do more than a few laps in the Tesla cus it will be sad"
Porsche - "more please"
Justin meshes SO WELL with everyone he works with. Such a great guy. Quickly became one of my favorite hosts.
Keep up the great work guys!
I mean the Tesla has slick tires. That's should make a huge difference.
Makes the biggest difference!
I noticed the same thing, not exactly a fair race
Not with only one out lap, especially in weather as cold as it looks. Especially not with the underdriving in the video. Tbh I'm not sure I'd even take 200tw Bridgestone re-71rs's out in this cold weather, I might bias to my PS4S set to ensure heat gets in them. That's more important than just throwing a slick on a car because it's a "race tire".
True. But a Model 3 performance is 40k with incentives. Gotta give it something right? A modified model S plaid would of blown the gt3rs to the moon. It has the fastest big willow track time ever and I don't see a gt3rs breaking any records on big willow.
@@justinbecker4772 They have one HOT LAP. Im sure both cars have done a lap or 2 at mild speed, enough to warm them up a good amount.
NGL that Tesla looks pretty good. I'm not a fan of EV's and I'm not gonna get one untill there's no way to drive ICE's anymore. There's just too many inconviniences for me to daily EV in current state of network and range, but I'm not totally against them either.
Nice build!
What kind of job do you have where you drive >150miles a day? Or is it a lack of home charging?
@@dsmluck The range complaints is what I find absurd. My neighbor has 3 Teslas, he uses the model 3 the most and he said he really only charge it everyday as EVs perform best at high battery charge. Dude drives miles everyday and it goes as low as 75%. Urban use is 100% for EVs. Cross country you might just rent a van.
I never imagined it would be so unsatisfying to not hear the engine💀
I love how all I ever hear is pros behind the wheel of a Tesla and cons outside of one
Wish ya let Dai do a hot lap in the model 3 to compare
Then they should let some professional gt3 racer drive Porsche too.
They should have had a professional driver like Randy Pobst drive to you really know where the true limits are.
An up to speed for us all on James's dad please?
You guys should really do a segment on Jackie Chan's Thunderbolt movie.. JDM galore
I enjoy EV and ICE vehicles. The future is fine in the hands of enthusiasts who want to have fun, regardless of the propulsion system.
Agree. I’ve got both currently. lol
Same here. One EV and one ICE.@@TheAllAmericanDriver
I'm right there with you guys. If it goes fast I like it.
At one side, the political pressure for a full replacement of the fleet and the Tesla fanboys. At the other side, diehard petrolheads who discredit and make fun of electric power at every given opportunity. And I don't wanna side with either of the extremes, I just wanna watch things unfold and enjoy them all! With freedom of choice, we should be fine.
EV arent fun for anyone..
While the Model 3 will overheat on a road course with prolonged acceleration and deceleration at the drag strip you actually have to heat the battery for max performance. At drag strips you don’t accelerate long enough to heat the battery. The Track Mode actually slows the car down tremendously because it cools the battery. My model 3 does the 1/4 mile in 11.17 @ 120.0 mph but only when I use preconditioning to heat the battery to over 130 degrees F.
I was thinking about this the other day - tempted to take my 3 performance to the nearby track. Would you recommend setting nav to the Supercharger so it will precondition the battery before I make a run?
@@ChrisLeiter which Track? Dragstrip or road course? For the dragstrip just navigate to a supercharger about 15 minutes before your run. I usually start preconditioning when I get into the line. For the road course you should put it in track mode about 10 minutes before your run and then leave it in track mode for each run. That will cool the battery and motors for sustained accelerations and braking.
@@ChrisLeiterYes, I've heard this is the way. You can even use service mode to check battery temps. I think you want ~50C to for best drag run.
Dragstrip - not really into putting my daily drivers on a road course these days ;)
Thanks for the tip@@LearningFast
i cant wait for the model 3 ludicrous. it seems like tesla is actually building a true performance car that can be taken on the track.
with the vents in the front, those could be for improved battery cooling in track mode. the suspension is lower and stiffer, with bucket seats. it seemingly has a rear diffuser and a larger spoiler as well, plus a huge power boost and larger brakes, just better brake pads. i cant wait to see it put to the test, specifically when it comes to endured performance.
An S550 Mustang GT is 3750 pounds, S650 rumored to be even heavier. The Tesla's battery weight is very low and between the wheels. It's heavy but it's not end-of-the-world heavy.
I would take something like a Honda E as a daily all day long. It’s not meant to be fast or crazy, just a nice little city commuter
Saameee. Man it's a damn shame it won't come to the US. Plus I love that you can use the screens as an HDMI in for a game console. I swear if Honda made a wagon version with a longer battery it'll do incredibly well here.
Straight trash vehicle. Get into an accident and you’re done for. No Space no storage. Very very short range.0-60 is too slow. Bunch of cars that are better with the same price. With better tech and interior as well.
Never even heard of the Honda E before. Had to look it up. Why don’t we get interesting cars in NA 🤦♂️
@Fumbiii16 Not everything is about speed lil bro
@@omegadaboiI agree with him when it comes to speed and range. If it’s an electric car and it’s slow then there is no point in buying one imo. If I wanted to save the environment I would ride the bus.
Best part of the video . “We only get one shot of peak power with the Tesla” great point
1 track pony doesn't make it anywhere near a track car imo
I mean the car doesn't just explode after 1 lap, you wait for it to cool down 5 minutes and go again no? Seems they added that line for climactic effect.
@@retro1120 that's...not how track racing works my guy
@@MeggaMortous I understand traditional races involve consecutive laps, but when aiming for a 1 lap record, breaks are 100% allowed.
@@retro1120 yeah sure go ahead with that if it fits your bill
Thats the essence of having a car for me, "you're doing less to drive" a car is supposed to make your life easier, that's what an EV is mostly about
tires are the easiest "upgrade" for any car to go faster on the track, but comparing the laptimes of a car that you can drive home, and another where you either have to put on a trailer, or switch out the tires for, is totally not a good comparison. You should have put track tires, but street legal ones, and would have made this test have a lot more water.
Calling Dai's car a model 3 is like calling Monster Tajima's Escudo a Vitara.
But it is a Model 3? And they called the Vitara an Escudo because that's the Japanese market name for it. "Escudo" isn't the name of the race car, it's just what Vitaras are called in Japan.
@@drdriftphd OK you miss my point. I'm fully aware of the names for the Escudo and should probably have typed "Monster Tajima's car".
The point is they are Pikes Peak hillclimb specials - so far removed from the standard car there is only a very small amount of it left. Really this is a carbon fibre/aero race car with a Tesla drivetrain under it.
@@siraff4461 But they're not going to call it "the carbon fiber Pike's Peak racing modified Model 3" every time they talk about it, lol. Everybody knows it's a race car. So they can just call it a Model 3. It's the same as race announcers talking about the cars on the track. They'll call it a 911, or a 458, or whatever... they don't have to say "the legendary carbon-bodied full-race-prep 911 GT3 race car that is in no way like a regular Carrera."
It's nowhere near close as modified as Tajima's car.
@@siraff4461If the drive train and shape remain the same... it's a model 3 lol.
I wasn't aware that the performance degrades so much even after 1 lap. I think that alone settles the question of if the model 3 can be a track car.
Edit: Leave it to Tesla fans to defend a track car that takes a performance dive after 1 lap
not only model 3 but all electric cars
True
The Performance degrades after 1 lap because it’s inherently a road car. They would have to change how the Teslas computer treats the battery to get the same performance consistently.
@@humanhuman5024 Sure if you want to replace the battery every few months.
They improved this with the Plaid greatly, and then Cybertruck even more. Unfortunately the cybertruck is in no way a track car 🤣
Guys, i have a good suggestion for you! Buy a Donut lift trailer to take with you when you have track days, you could see the whole track, wouldnt really be that expensive 😍
The M3P is my favorite performance daily driver hands down, especially with a gas project car. Cheapest car to do 0-60 in 3.1 and 11.7 in the 1/4 stock, basic suspension mods makes it a handling champ, practically no maintenance, instant torque launches, fastest car for legal speeds until you hit “go to jail” territory. Still have the C7 for weekends and tinkering, but 98% of the time I’m in the M3P. It’s just a different kind of fun. Only gripes are (handling + low center weight) destroys expensive tires, Tesla as a company, Elon👎🏾, and other Tesla owners… but the M3P platform itself is amazing. Kudos to Dai for the build, but I would personally leave my electric for daily and gas for track. GT3 owners have nothing to worry about lol
8.3 mil subs...wow!!! As someone that been here pre 1mil congrats on the progression of content while keeping it og donut feels. thank you
GT3 for me, the sound, the rumble, the gear changes.. it’s exciting… never gets old…
The best way to improve lap times is to imprive driving skills.
No need to increase engine power, buy expensive sticky racing tires or do any significant performance orientated mods. You only need good brakes and that's it.
