While the normal level car does not have the same level of grip as the easy car, it does still have a surprising amount. On the sharp "Black Hole" corner where the space battle takes place, you can simply release the throttle and cut the corner close to the wall to clear it while being careful not to drive through the purple grass near the wall. If you brake or change gear here, the normal car will lose traction and start to slide, but if you just release the throttle, the car will continue to grip throughout the entire curve, making for a very fast time.
I remember I played the shit out of this in the arcade as a kid, and Scud Race as well. Sega's arcade games from the 1990s were absolutely incredible, graphics so bright and crisp that they still hold up even today.
Can you imagine a Hotwheels game running on this engine? That'd be so COOL!
I always thought Hard level car is the way to go in every track, but seems it's only for beginner. Normal and easy level car can corner much faster than hard level, thus the top speed deficit is gained in turns.
At my intermediate skill level, the easy and normal cars are my favorite choices because they're very safe to drive and can still be surprisingly fast; the hard level car is much faster than any of the other cars on both the straights and corners when it is driven perfectly, but if you make a single mistake it's game over!
Haven't played this in arcade again. What surprises me is that easy cars can be driven very fast like what you've shown, beating some hard cars times. Sega did great job at balancing it seems

*How do you perform a Rocket Start in DAYTONA USA 2?*
It seems to be a little different than the original Daytona, the key seems to be to hold the brake and start in first gear, bump the throttle a few times before the countdown finishes, then apply full throttle and release the brake immediately as the race starts. If you've got the timing right, the nose of the car will pop into the air; be prepared to shift up quickly to keep the momentum going!
