Sega Model 2 Arcade Showcase Rendered @ 4K - All 32 Games - モデル2

- All Sega Model 2 games rendered @ 4k resolution. There's a timer in the bottom left for each game time remaining. I don't think Yu Suzuki would have imagined these games being rendered at this resolution back in the 90s. It's amazing how well they stand the test of time. Sure they lack some of the modern day graphical bling, but there's a certain...vintage charm that you don't get in games these days. It was an incredible system.
Sega made 2 billion dollars from cabinet sales with model 2 hardware in it!!!!! The 90s were glorious times for arcade and gaming.

Always loved Model 2. SEGA's arcade stuff always looked so "video gamey" and I LOVE the aesthetic to this day.
This era was a Very special time in arcade games and 3d graphics. nowdays not come close to the creativity, art and style.
Sega arcade games rock!

It's wild that the last Model 2 game came out the same year as the last Model 3 game: 1999.
I had to double check when i read your comment that i didn't make a mistake, but yes, Pilot Kids came out in 99. I think this hardware had a pretty high learning curve for development, if you had trained devs on the hardware, i can see wanting to continue to develop for it. Pilot Kids is a pretty good game too!
Model 2 was jaw dropping. It was such a leap from 2D gaming. Racers and fighting games still play like this nearly 30 years later only with higher pixel counts, textures etc.
I remember when it came out, it certainly was amazing!
Just imagine if ps1 Saturn and n64 had these graphics...
I haven't tried any of those consoles at 4k, i'm sure it's possible to upscale the 3d games on those systems.
@@arcadestuff Right, but the console conversions had to compromise on graphics, animations or levels to fit the game into the more limited console hardware specs. Only in the Xbox/PSX generation did consoles get enough muscle for “arcade perfect” Model 2 conversions.
Saturn versions of Daytona USA has obvious frame rate and draw distance reductions, VF2 conversion is amazing and runs at high res to boot, but had to switch to using 2D for backgrounds rather than the arcade’s full 3D arenas. Saturn version of Sega Rally and Virtua Cop series are also excellent conversions in terms of how close they came to the Model 2 originals, but even they’ve had to trim some things down to make it all work
@@little_fluffy_clouds This just makes being able to play the arcade versions even better :)
They would cost thousands of dollars then
Sega was awesome
I agree, so many of these games i remember from my childhood. I never had any money as a kid to play this stuff, but i was a serial loiterer at arcades watching people play them!
They have a lot of amazing IPs but all they care about now is milking that blue hedgehog...
Building a LaunchBox hard drive right now, just doing some Sega Saturn.. Never was too educated on Sega besides the Genesis. Somehow ended up here after seeing HOTD emulated on SM2. This is the kind of stuff I'm looking for... the old games that when emulated on good hardware look brand new and ridiculously amazing in 4K 60+fps. After seeing this I'm jealous, I'm going to have to spend a week learning and configuring this system!!
OST of Sonic Championship seems lit!
I wish they would release all of these on the current gen consoles, i'd buy them all.
imagin a 4k 60fps am2 collection on disc for current consoles
That would definitely be awesome.
Fantastic compilation man...
I've left instructions for your subscribers on how to achieve 4k output.
Hope some find it useful 😉
Love these series. When Daytona USA came out, it was freaking unbelievable. Sega was years ahead of its time with the Model 2 and Model 3 boards. While a home conversion will never capture the thrill of the deluxe arcade cabinets, I do wish Sega would bring these home to the consoles. I still play VF2 and Daytona on my Xbox and it’s just so exhilarating to have arcade perfect ports to play…they even went above and implemented wide screen mode on those titles, but I would be very happy with ports in the old aspect ratio too. Edit: I bought a Saturn on launch day and had a blast with that console, although Sega rushed its launch and ended up rewriting VF and Daytona. Daytona CE also played literally nothing like the original and was very disappointing. VF Remix at least held the gameplay together. I played so much Sega Rally at home, after a few rounds in the arcade, I could do very well and ended up with high score a number of times. Good stuff!
I still remember when Daytona was released... i would hang around and watch people play it for hours. The arcade owner would get in it and win the expert track every now and then, he was basically a super hero at that place. FUN TIMES!
@@arcadestuff That’s so awesome. Great memories! At the large arcade in our area they had the four player deluxe cabinets of Daytona. Spent many, many quarters there. Never could quite master the expert track in the arcade though. Such a tough one with little room for error. Edit: I would also sit for hours and watch people play, or just watch the attract screens. Sega nailed those darn attract demos!
why do they still look so much better than some games today? It's not even my generation, 0 nostalgia, there is just something, the clarity of the visual, the speed, it looks so good
I don’t have the answer, but I know what you mean. It’s really just a different style to modern day games and the methods they use to create graphics.
I've thought about this. The main thing is the framerate. It's a constant 60 FPS with zero slowdown. Also, neither the Model 2 nor Model 3 had sophisticated lighting, particle, or atmospheric effects. There were some rudimentary reflections and specular highlights, but that's about it. Shadows are all faked (if you notice, in driving games only the vehicles have shadows, rarely other objects). So while it's not "realistic," the graphics are sharp and colorful (this was also a draw in the arcade). Modern games rely on lighting and particle effects for immersion, but they can cause dips in framerate. Third, native resolution for these games was 640x480, so textures are generally large enough that they're not blurry when scaled up. PSX and N64 used lower-res textures and don't look as good when upscaled.
…loving both the model 2 and model summaries you put together. I noticed the version of Daytona in this vid is widescreen. Is that the PS3 or Xbox360 version or did the arcade version have widescreen capability?
Glad you liked the videos!! They take a lot of time to put together! All games in both videos are played on the model2 and supermodel model3 emulator, no console games. Model2 emu devs have added widescreen support for some games that you can enable. I didn't use it for all the supported games in the model2 video as i didn't realise there was more, but Daytona has proper 16:9 widescreen supported in the emulator. The model3 emulator supports 16:9 widescreen properly for almost all games, there's a few that have some texture issues on the edges, you can see it in the le mans section of the model3 video, black on the edges, virtua fighter 3 also has this issue, so i kept it 4:3 otherwise if looked really broken. Otherwise 16:9 works for most model3 games perfectly. Not stretched at all, it renders the game viewport wider to 16:9 properly.
@@arcadestuff thanks for the reply. Yep I’ve installed the model 3 emulator (supermodel) on my PC and the games I play all have widescreen support. I didn’t realize that the model 2 emulator supported widescreen as well for some games. BTW, I have Daytona on my ps3 and it’s glorious.
Out of the entire list, ive only seen and play six of the model 2 games. They were expensive, so most small arcades in my area only owned one or two units at a time.
I think I like Model 2 games more than M3. More games, more diversity
Hello everyone, here's how to upscale and output in 4k...
Right click on M2 emulator, open the 'File Location'
Go to 'Configuration Settings', and change these 2 values as shown below:
FullScreenWidth=3840
FullScreenHeight=2160
Close and save...
Launch M2, click 'Video' on top-bar... 'Full screen resolution'... Finally, on the 'right' pop-up-menu select 'Custom (Set in .ini)'
Voila'!!!
I always love the sega model 2 graphics, its truly ahead of its time and also its looks pretty beautiful aesthetic wise compare to both Saturn and PS1 Graphics
Sega the goat!!!
how did you get these games to look like this i have model 2 emulator i cant games to look no where near this youtube video?
Hi there, it's very easy; Here's how to upscale and output in 4k...
Open the 'File Location' of M2 emulator.
Go to 'Configuration Settings', and change these 2 values Width to 3840 & Height to 2160
FullScreenWidth=3840
FullScreenHeight=2160
Close and save...
Launch M2, click 'Video' on top-bar... 'Full screen resolution'... Finally, on the 'right' pop-up-menu select 'Custom (Set in .ini)'
Voila'!!!
Please explain which computer you use and which emulator
Is it a bug in the emulator with Sega Rally where the other cars seem to "jump" ahead? I notice they're doing it in your video too.
How do you get the different colored bikes in Manx TT?
How did you get it to 4k. Was it as simple as changing the output in the settings or is there something more to it?
Nothing more to it, you just set the output resolution when you run it.
Did you put a 4K monitor in your Chewlix?
Nah, just 1080p@60hz. My driving cab has 4k, and my pc. These were played on those.
Yes, now i did!
Yeah model 2 emulator even supports force feedback, i mean controller vibration. 😛
When i made this video i used a wheel for all driving games. I didn't really tune it's force feedback so it was pretty dull. In my model 3 video, the force feeedback for Daytona 2, Sega Rally 2 and Scud racer is awesome. Pretty sure it's using the force effects from the arcade drive board firmwares!
What emulator do you use to play in 4K?
Sega model 2 emu 1.1a
Are these playable on the steamdeck?
Not sure sorry, i guess if it runs Windows, this emulator runs on Windows so it could be possible if you're running windows. Search for model 2 emulator and see what oyu can find.
Time bonus.
Is this emulation or actual hardware?
Emulation
@@arcadestuffWow man looks good. Model 2 emulation has come a long way👊🙏
How can we config 4k 60fps in the emulator?
Hi there, here's how to upscale and output in 4k...

such a shame this emulator is closed source and stopped updated long ago.
We are very lucky that it's as complete as it is though, maybe not cycle accurate but it still works to the point we can play all the games!
