Cool part was that a big block would fit with two modifications that I remember you had to cut a small piece out to fit the starter selenoid and some hammering to fit the trans bellhousing Go big blocks
man that little Vega moves ! the drive axle violently throws the front up with that big chunk of BBC metal lurking in the bay. real nice ! i figure with a pro touring setup those little Vegas would also make for a fun autocross/ road course track race car.
adjust your wheelie bars closer to the ground, alot closer. rebound wont b so bad and u can get on full throttle sooner. u have one badass car, great video
Exactly. "We weren't expecting that. I don't know what happened " Duh.. Don't spend a fortune making power then take power out of it. Adjust the suspension to put it to the ground. And Adjust the the wheelie bars so they are about an inch and a half off the ground. Are you making top fuel power? NO! Then you don't need to take power out, you need to put it to the ground and go forward NOT UP.
so cool, my first car was a 71 vega 2 door panel express, when i first got it the front end was messed up from doing wheelies(sb400 nitro), it had 4inch diamond tucked turned black interior, comp orange had special delivery on the panels and a tiny naked lady on the back hatch and said "Runnin Bare" next to it, it had a 350, 3/4 cam 12.5 comp and hooker sidepipes no mufflers. when i had it
Wow, vega driver does a wheelie and pulls to the side (good move). Nova driver does an even bigger wheelie then limps down the lane rite in the grove. What a dick move. Smh
mike s definitely the Nova driver idiot. hate that when I go to the track and see this. guaranteed he would be first to fuss at another for doing same thing. when you have issues pull out of the Grove and get off track asap.
THIS IS LIKE THE EQUIVALENT OF A BIG BLOCK INTO A VEGA OR SOMETHING!!! Who ever guesses where this is from you get 10 internet points and a gold star ⭐️👌👌
If this is the same old green big block Vega Wagon that ran around the east side of Indy back in the 70s and 80s it's nice to see it running after all these years. Back then it had gold lettering on the side rear window. Something like King Rat, Rat Attack, Street Rat or something like that. It had a big hood scoop with a tunnel ram and a turbo 400. Best of luck.
Just realized that the car my childhood neighbor had was in fact a Vega wagon, all I could remember all these years was that it was a small banana yellow station wagon.
Those guys brought it for the burnout contest.. it was hilarious.. blew the entire side of the van off when they shredded the rear tires.. They had some pretty fast Carmaro street cars too...
This channel has 2.3 million subscribers on it. And 200,000 views on this video. This guy is not biased like racing channels. I think this guy has been running the camera for a long time. We need to see some of his cars. Notice the guy said he had weight in the front end to hold it down. He could always take weight out to make it hook harder on a track that's loose.
I just love fast carbureted vintage cars. Got a '72 Pinto wagon I've considered turning into a drag racer, but the cost would be a bit high compared to using something with a stronger structure.
My 2300 cc Vega wagon with 3-spd Saginaw would have taken about 5 minutes to get down that track. Vegas built properly became dominant in the Pacfic Northwest, until Ken started up Rapid Rotary...
Had a friend in high school with a sb400 in a little Monza. That car was straight up nutty. I might actually start looking for a good platform....if they can still be found.
Love that body style - doesn't get any better THAN a shooting brake dragster for me. That thing is great, scetchy wheelies, loud as my grandmas farts and reasonable fast!
HA! Tha kid dun real good once he got traction figured out. That's driving 101 and he did good! Rite on VEGA! Edit: looked further down and see the owner mentioned the car weights 3050 with him in it, his name is Clint Lynch,, good driving Clint and all the best with your hotrod!
Looking at the motor and knowing it has "1" kit I'd guesstimate 800ish and the car might weigh 2800 with him in it.. so math is telling me high 8's low 9's and unlimited traction. but that's 30 years of being a drag racer and reading cars. If times popped up I'd point at that range for the car and mid to high 5's in the eighth.
I got a 1975 vega not a thing in it just figuring on putting smallblock in it and running it on the street but after watching this bigblock would be nice
If it were mine I would run more preload on the wheelie bars. That would put them closer to the ground and keep the sky high wheelies away. Jus' sayin'
ShitFromShinola really that's cool man. i jus wanted to see bc i'm still in the process in building my nova right now so i'm just wanting to see others similar to mine, probably because i just can't wait till it's done. aha
He came up to us after the race and said he threw everthing he had at it cuz he didn't want to draw the vega in the first round... He knows the reputation of this car, and knew he would need it all.. I give him props for givin her hell!!
The odds of there being 2 fairly identical 71 vega's while possible not probable but I got a dollar to a Donut that this is the Wooly Mammoth with a haircut....I mean hell it swapped owners like 3 times on Pinks and if I ain't mistaken the Boys in OKC had it for a bit it has been a well traveled little critter.....LMAO
*THANK GOD FOR THESE REAL MEN KEEPING THESE CARS ALIVE !!!*
No one could have said it better Dean! Thank GOD indeed
My mom had one of those when I was a kid! Every car my parents had when I was young has become cool in some way. Hope to see more of this Vega wagon.
totally remember seeing these guys riding by me while going to work. This car in person is an absolute beast
Back when we hit the local track in the late 80s, the Vega's ruled the strip.
Thats when I built mine. I had the rare trunk model, not the hatchback.
They still rule!!!!!!!!!!!!¡
@@donrutter6765 I have a trunk model. That’s awesome.
That car was parked right next to my buddy and me at Muncie Dragway a few weeks ago, one mean machine.
Who the HECK prepped the Track ?? Great Job ! Axle snapping traction !
More like 2500lb car with 800ish hp and real tires.. That car could probably hook on gravel.
Actually it's a No Prep race and the car makes about 1400 and it's 3050lbs. You are right though, it hooks everywhere.
That 30 year old technology still works pretty good! 👍🏻
Shit box I couldn't say it better myself.
I saw a Vega station wagon in 1983 in Richardsville,Kentucky. I had been visiting with my Uncle and Aunt and was on my way back to Bowling Green.
I'm usually *NOT* a fan of Vegas. The wagons, I can tolerate sometimes...
But *this* one is siiiick! I Love it!
Mr. Vega, you have my attention I was 14 years old when that vehicle is brand new and I can appreciate what you've done to it rock on brother!
Wow! More cars/trucks like this please. That driver is no squid!
Wow a vega I haven't seen one these in many years much less with a big block very cool
Nice sound when that Vega winds down.
That Vega is so fast no time comes up on the scoreboard, Maybe it is going back in time
As a V 8 Vega builder and owner, thank you for the video!
Cool part was that a big block would fit with two modifications that I remember you had to cut a small piece out to fit the starter selenoid and some hammering to fit the trans bellhousing
Go big blocks
" We just love to race, kick ass and step on people's throats" - THE Clint Lynch
I wish there were times and mph on those runs. That Vega is sweet!
man that little Vega moves ! the drive axle violently throws the front up with that big chunk of BBC metal lurking in the bay.
real nice ! i figure with a pro touring setup those little Vegas would also make for a fun autocross/ road course track race car.
It's the wooly mammoth without the wooly!
I just bought a back halved 1974 Vega Panel wagon! Plan is of course LS/turbo!
Any Vega with any hot V-8 ain't no joke. There were several at Knoxville Dragway some years ago.
adjust your wheelie bars closer to the ground, alot closer. rebound wont b so bad and u can get on full throttle sooner. u have one badass car, great video

that 60' is insane... wow
The wagon is no joke....👍👍
That is one badass wagon!

mike s with obvious smoke coming out the rear(which I would think would be from oil on a header/exhaust)
mike s definitely the Nova driver idiot. hate that when I go to the track and see this. guaranteed he would be first to fuss at another for doing same thing. when you have issues pull out of the Grove and get off track asap.
mike s Yeah he should know better than that
This is my new favorite car!
I've always liked the ugly ass Vega's lol
Don't we all ...
Ain't nuthin ugly about an early Vega.
Glad to see he put this faith in the wheelie bars after that first balls up.
This is sick shit, the takeoff is almost like teleporting by 5 meters. What a ride
You guys are making me want to get my late 70's work truck out lol
THIS IS LIKE THE EQUIVALENT OF A BIG BLOCK INTO A VEGA OR SOMETHING!!! Who ever guesses where this is from you get 10 internet points and a gold star ⭐️👌👌
Rhino and Coleslaw roger schultes built this.
dam that's quick! nice driving!

I had a 73 panel wagon that ran around on the east side of Indy called the Vega Express. Small block, automatic with a mean shift kit, ran High 12
love the cars
Just realized that the car my childhood neighbor had was in fact a Vega wagon, all I could remember all these years was that it was a small banana yellow station wagon.
holy shit its not a million dollar turbo build this time thanks 1320 👍

0:28 rutwoah swaggy some stole our mystery machine
Those guys brought it for the burnout contest.. it was hilarious.. blew the entire side of the van off when they shredded the rear tires.. They had some pretty fast Carmaro street cars too...

Primed vega wagon god bless America
Excellent ride! 👍
My 2300 cc Vega wagon with 3-spd Saginaw would have taken about 5 minutes to get down that track. Vegas built properly became dominant in the Pacfic Northwest, until Ken started up Rapid Rotary...
Sweet Vega hooks up hard
I had 73 Vega GT wagon copper colored

Had a friend in high school with a sb400 in a little Monza. That car was straight up nutty. I might actually start looking for a good platform....if they can still be found.
Hot damn that thing is rowdy

Love that body style - doesn't get any better THAN a shooting brake dragster for me. That thing is great, scetchy wheelies, loud as my grandmas farts and reasonable fast!

Good track prep
HA! Tha kid dun real good once he got traction figured out. That's driving 101 and he did good! Rite on VEGA! Edit: looked further down and see the owner mentioned the car weights 3050 with him in it, his name is Clint Lynch,, good driving Clint and all the best with your hotrod!
Check out what we did this weekend. I have videos up on my channel... still putting the smack down...lol
Badass ride 👍👍👍👍👍
Love them Vegas wish I could find one
Racingjunk.com
Very cool.
They barely told us anything, no power numbers or times
When do they ever tell times?
Matthew Howarth grudge and heads up cars don't do that. Not how it works.
so? it was still cool to watch lol
Looking at the motor and knowing it has "1" kit I'd guesstimate 800ish and the car might weigh 2800 with him in it.. so math is telling me high 8's low 9's and unlimited traction. but that's 30 years of being a drag racer and reading cars. 2800? I guess it's possible, sure doesn't look like it haha
The Vega wagon
The Chevy
pinto wagon
Love it 🤘💀
Looks like somebody shaved all the hair off the "wooly mammoth" Vega Wagon from Pinks!!! Charles owned it.
I have a neighbor that daily drives a cream color vega wagon I want it soo bad !
It needs some fur. The Wooly Mammoth was so cool it landed Charles a job on Pinks Racing.
I want a Vega.
John Laird
I got one for sale.
That's my dad, cool to see him on this UA-cam app or whatever it is haha
Whos your dad?
lol he must not be your son?
You never know.. more like who's your mom?? LOL
Nope. LOL
Awesome
I got a 1975 vega not a thing in it just figuring on putting smallblock in it and running it on the street but after watching this bigblock would be nice
saw that car the other day at team 260 neglection no prep, and i will say this much... That is one BAD BITCH RIGHT THERE.
If it were mine I would run more preload on the wheelie bars. That would put them closer to the ground and keep the sky high wheelies away. Jus' sayin'
2:26 that is the Maliboost owned by nick taylor. he wasnt on his game that pass but he Is FAST!
Lower those wheelie bars more and tell ALL that power you took out to "GET OVER HERE!!!"
Nice to see something not modern for a change.
Remember the Woolly Mammoth Vega wagon from Pinks? What ever happened to that thing, didn't Chief win it at some point?
You gonna make me find pics of my old alcoholic vega wagon ! Lol if I find I will post.!
I love it
I wanted to see that red nova go again
The red nova destroyed the front end of his car cuz he was scared of the vega in the first round..
ShitFromShinola yea but we never actaully got to see him run because of that… that's all i'm sayin
I did.. I was there helping the driver of the vega
.
I give him props for givin her hell!!
that thing was stupid fast
So that's who stole my granny's wagon 😂😂
Looks like the wooly mamoth got trimmed up
I had a 75 Vega panel wagon.... if only I knew then what I know now
"The Foster Child" lmao great name
the Nove thought it was not just a wheely contest,, not 2b out dun :)
Hellz yea
Very nice what heads are on it
Reminds me of tootees wooly mammoth
I wanna see the last race from the big end
NOS is the best mod you can get
dandaman a NO shit Sherlock
that wagon is fast as fuk
The odds of there being 2 fairly identical 71 vega's while possible not probable but I got a dollar to a Donut that this is the Wooly Mammoth with a haircut....I mean hell it swapped owners like 3 times on Pinks and if I ain't mistaken the Boys in OKC had it for a bit it has been a well traveled little critter.....LMAO
This was not the Wooly Mammoth. It was a brand new build 3 years ago. We built it here in Indianapolis.
It keeps going up I don't know what to do. Maybe lower the wheelie bars? Just a thought lmao
This is true but you shouldn't have to 100% relies on your wheelie bars they should really only be a just in case type device.
Nicky Cowboy adjusting the 4 link would help, lowering the launch rpm by 500 also
Wooly mammoth?!
it didn't have anything on that blue deuce but its quick
What's the biggest motor can you put in them vega wagons
looks like the old woolly mammoth i wonder where the old woolly mammoth is now
What ever happened to the wooley mammoth vega?
Nitrous Nova needs to quit trying to move the crowd and tie that thing to the ground!!!
looks the woolley mamouth without the fur
Vega wagon moves out
