The most critical part of this installation is the weep holes and the peel and stick sealant because there are no windows that are completely water tight even when new. So, if any water gets onto the top of the seal it will run down because the window seal is slanted downward and out the weep holes. If these are not installed water cannot get out and will rot the seal away. Good video and glad it shows that important step.
This just confirmed that I can’t do this myself and to hire a professional. Thank you Lowe’s.
I was thinking the same thing.
I'm sure it's a LOT harder than it looks, unless your house if pretty new.
Yup. Right there with you!
@bob707builder8 already looks hard, and they picked a ground level window on a brand new looking house.
Yeah, was going to do it myself, but my condo was built in 1969, so I think it'll be best to have a professional come and replace them.
great video .... illuminates the work required to replace a window and an appreciation of the skill and effort. And this is a video of a clean install ... imagine replacing an old window in an old house that has settled over time.
When in doubt, grab a chain saw, It will come out.
It only took 4 minutes! You sir, are amazing..
I just want to say watching this video and seeing the same collective human reaction that I experienced in these comments just made my night. Thank you Lowe’s.
Watching this video reminded me of that Rick and Morty episode on how they make a "plumbus": "For homemade plumbuses, always push your dinglebop through a grumbo so your fleeb doesn't fill up with its own joose, then a shrumus comes and spits on it" hahaha
Lol. That’s hilarious.
hahahh! me too!
You just haven’t experienced true level!
Yeah the voice over actor sounded like that lol
Out of all the videos I watched trying to install Windows you guys are probably one of the best👍👍
Where can I download this window?
"That's one window in place, now you're ready to tackle more"... nope I'd be far too angry and far too drunk at this point since this would take me 12 hours and a 24 case of beer to get through that.
Truer words have never been spoken
The friendly music must be drowning out the constant flow of curse words coming from that man's mouth
,😂😂
Lol. Yup, with 1/2" to 3/4" gaps I bet he's cussing up a storm... "who the @#$%^& measured this @#$&* window!"
😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
One of the best comments I've ever read on UA-cam
😆😂 yeah no kidding!
Well that's pretty straightforward. Was trying to decide whether to pay the extra money to hire someone or if it would be easy enough to do myself. This video has given me the confidence to do it myself. Now, I will have left over money to replace the interior walls around my windows too ☺️
We believe in you, Stephanie! Keep us updated-we’re excited to hear how it goes. 👀
How did it go ?
You spray the foam on the outside of the window to seal it to the frame. Then you put trim over that. No foam goes inside the window. The weep holes are in the front bottom strip of the window frame to allow condensation out.
Sure is a nice clean window being replaced 😀
yeah right? I'll take the old one...
After this video I am convinced that I should hire someone to do this instead.
I feel like that's what they were trying to do
Exactly!
It’s as easy as doing these simple 227 steps. 😂
I rather pay then to have my wife pissed off every time she looks at that window 😆
No doubt. I feel like I now know less than before I watched this video.
Good thing is the big boxes use the cheapest bidder for installation. Best part is you will get cheapest materials that should last for the taillight guarantee 👍
Divide By Zero I think that’s what they intended on. I’m going to find another video 😂🤣
It's as easy as hiring it out to a professional and standing back and watching
love your video I'm new to the makeover blog edition, and would really love to share this on my site. Can I use your video to embed it on my site?
Always good professional videos
It’s usually not this difficult they make it look like a lot so no one tries to do it themselves.
That's why guys will pay me double to drive over two hours to complete a job they started but couldn't finish, because it's so easy. Easy until you get that hiccup, or oddball window, or wrong sized window, or a rock exterior that requires morter instead of caulk, or the two hundred nails in a flange that won't come out even after tearing down the house around it, or the guy who put wood trim all around the aluminum framed windows which nobody could see until it was time to install creating an extra week of work because it was on all 64 windows, or any of the other odd balls I've encountered in my time doing this. You are right, it's easy, until it's not.
@@John_McBain Dayyyuuuuuummm! You're freaggin right though.
It is that difficult if you want to do it right and not be left with issues to deal with down the road.
@@John_McBain come do my window
Have to have some gap so you can level & square the window with shims inside the frame.
Things that well never go as smoothly as they said it will for a $1000, Alex.
What is a simple window replacement?
What type of sealant is used?
I have Malta windows and I cannot figure out how to take the wooden sashes out to repair and paint. There are no latches or screws on the inside of the jamb/plastic rail guides, like the Andersen windows have. Cannot find anything on UA-cam or Google. Nothing. House built in 1994.
Try pushing in on the plastic rail and pulling out at the same time should get them out
Do you spray foam in the bottom too? There are weep holes, so I don't know if the bottom should be insulated too or the weep holes are enough, even when there is insulation/sprayed foam.
If I could see from the inside out the window seal around the whole window frame does that come off and be record
Caulk that window and goof it too I'm asking this as a question I don't know thank you
The flashing tape applied to the sill should exceeded the length of the sill and go up one or 2 inches on both sides. Otherwise you’re not getting a proper shingled installation.
where to buy the sill adapter? My new windows don't come with them...
Usually have to order the adapter with it, always handy to have the head adapter too
No flashing on side and top?
Yeah I think I'll just pay to have y'all do it. I would definitely F&@# that up! lol
Beautiful
notes to self: sill adapter 3:30 flashing tape 2:00
One word for this instructional video, WOW!
the way you say "sash" in this video omg xD
Well I guess I will be calling a window installer company....
You seriously have no idea how easy this is. I just did one last weekend 🤘
Phil Timpson
How’d it come out? Any tips..
@@mylifeisamememylifeispathe3140 looks great. Time will tell if it leaks, i guess.
My tips are to measure measure measure. If you're doing slide in replacements, make sure your sills and frame are in good shape. If you have room around your siding to do so, new construction replacements are usually better than slide in. I had to build a whole sill, frame and new brick mold to keep a similar style to my other windows and because of the double layer of exterior on my house but will probably eventually replace all of my windows for new construction when I redo my exterior cladding. Otherwise, it's pretty rudimentary
Thinking the same thing!
@@meganestrada9153 it's sooooo easy
It might be easier to create my own Covid vaccine than do this lol
Easier said than done.
what are the black parts on the side of the window for?
It’s a design for some reason.only for looks. There’s a name for it but idk it
@@hockeyman14149 ok thank you so much i needed a little clarification
@@Gentex_Commander_2 life long question answered
I don’t know what over half of the words they used mean
Haha! I just told my wife that I heard 10 words I've never heard before in this video. "Take the flibber over the skyknuckt and trim the ankör of the chitbar down to the fizzip of the gonor. Never assume the dertball is flush with the mootchin until you've pleshmired the chizitpan!
@@scottbradley2771 LOFLMAO! :D
DO NOT DRILL HOLES IN YOUR NEW WINDOW ADAPTER. You destroy the R rating of the window. Cold and heat enter through the holes. The windows I bought from Lowe's had weep slots built in above the sill allowing it to drain with out getting under the window.
Or just rip out the old windows, frame out the opening, and live in complete darkness like cavemen as nature intended it.
I think this is beyond my level of skill. I am NOT smarter than a 5th grader!
It's OK. You still have time to get your Grade 10.
Ok Ricky lol.
I saw Window World do it on my house. It wasn't that involved.
L love your videos so much
Carefully remove the spring without slashing your finger open with that rusty nail.
Yeah, usually you take out interior trim and pull the window out and put one in, it’s a lot easier
It's actually often easier and less damaging to remove them from the outside. I've had it done both ways, but removing trip often requires painting.
Sooooo, just hire someone to do it for me. Got it!
Very Cool i will use this
How'd that go for you? Lol
Make sure to rush to the hospital when you cut off your finger! And don’t forget to tip the doctor! 😂
What are 'Weep holes'? Put a written definition for terminology in the video please.
Weep holes are drilled into the sill attachment so that water can get seep through. If the window doesn't have weep holes, any water that gets behind will collect there and eat away at the sealant and eventually make its way down behind the siding.
Ohhhh awesome.
This looks like a PITA
How much $ is to replace a window that size ? Labor only
The only thing is that the window I want to replace is on the second floor 🤦♂️
Easy money, I will be making a realistic DIY video soon
Naww...I'll just have real pros do it for me. But nice video.
I think if I had a buddy with skills the two of us could handle this. Ala Time Gates.
Glad the “This Old House” guys were not narrating ... ‘cause “doze guys” almost speak English and need subtitles in which to fully understand !!!
How to replace window frames : summary call a professional to do it for you
Upstairs windows...no roof beneath
👍🏻
Now show how to repair rotten frame wood.
This is my ex-wife's problem now.
🤣🤣🤣
Ya no chance I'd try that myself lol
😳....you lost me at “sash” ☎️
What?
This is like bare minimum info.... Please if you are inexperienced call someone who knows the trade or you may end up deeper into your pocket than youd hoped...
Allegedly the internet thinks a more precise fit is acceptable, but with conflicting information I guess I will add gap even though the last window had none.
This is not something an average homeowner can do lol
I can’t be the only one who spaced out halfway.... then the window was BUILT!!!! wtf!
What was step 1? 😂
The point of these videos is to simply discourage people from doing it. They are trying to show you it’s just easier to pay someone if you’re not use to these phrases like shim, flush, square, level, etc.
Nic I'm doing that when I am 25
How old are you now?
im finding ants in my room and im sure they coming from the window so im replacing the whole thing cuz I’m terrified
Ants will find a way in regardless. You're better off calling an exterminator than replacing a window
Apply some shlieeem and rub the plumbus gently.
That wood window just needed some maintenance and will last forever. Once you switch to replacement windows you’ll be replacing them forever. And they look bad.
DIY this is not...
Says who?!
Looks pretty DIY to me. Don't forget to get several hundred dollars of powertools 1st!
@@henri6595Which power tools are needed to install a window?
Folks, this is bad advice.
"Replacement windows." Ugh
“Check the manufacturer’s directions”...... It’s “Instructions”. directions are if you want to go somewhere.
🤓🤓🤓
AKA how to brake into someones house
AKA as seven illiterate idiots who can’t spell the word BREAK, make that a count of 10.
Wouldn't it be easier to just break the window?
how to break into someones house and leave them with a fantastic new window.

Nice video. Amazing people have nothing better to do than make idiotic comments.

While replacing a window I fell out and died. Would not buy again.
