This was a great tutorial. I watched it several times. I'm happy to report that I successfully installed my new toilet. Proud new homeowner here. Thanks again.
I highly recommend using a Shop/Vac to remove the water from the tank and bowel. The vacuum is very quick. The vacuum is also handy to suck up any water that may leak from the water supply connecter hose.
Wow so I am a general contractor and Home Depot Advocate ,but you guys are killing it with these videos. These videos allowing anyone to do easy home improvements themselves!!! You could pay 250 plus in just labor.
Problem is if smt happens and your speedway burst. Ur insurance company won’t give u any compensation. Btw as a plumber if you’re going to change your toilet change your speedway also, they are typically the first thing to give up in a house. Cheers
Thanks for the very informative video. I went to Lowe's yesterday and picked up a Kohler toilet and it took about 90 minutes to install. No surprises or leaks. And I am not the handiest guy around...
I watched this before replacing a toilet in a manufactured home from 1993. It was nice to watch someone go through all the steps in the instruction manual.
Just finished my second toilet from this video. Everyone please don’t do like me… DO NOT FORGET THE RAG IN THE PIPE!! Almost had a second floor spill. The wax ring was still intact when I lifted it up again, but I’ll keep an eye out. Thanks again Lowe’s!
Followed this paired with the manufacturer directions that came with my toilet and got the job done in under 30 minutes. Thank you for this! You're the only video I found that suggested the water solidifier
When setting toilet ( 3:00 to 3:10 ) ,,, 1 - should you check for it being level at all ,, ? 2 - would you ( if needed because of slight uneven flooring for some reason ) place plastic shims under toilet to level out ,, ? ( I read somewhere to use plastic , because wood shims ,, if getting wet ,,, would be ruined ) Thanks for any input / info .
I just used this tutorial to install a new toilet. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge!! Keep making these videos and helping people save money.
Excellent explanation of the process, very detailed. I followed these instructions and saved a lot money instead of having a plumber do the work. Thanks.
You forgot to tighten the first set of toilet tank nuts that seal the tank bolt heads on the tank bottom. You can easily see the bolts move around when you tightened the second set of nuts securing the tank to the base. The bolt end nuts are not used to seal the bolt head washer seals. How could you not both see and feel the bolt(s) looseness ?
they def won't. their money is in companies and construction sites via vendor contracts. Like with the govt with printer contracts. A company bids and provides a service.
Well I followed your directions and tonight I installed a new "tuscany michigan dual flush toilet". Your directions were flawless. The only things that I had to be careful about was the different hardwaresome of the hardware was different, but other than that, your directions were great. Thanks!
Found this after seeing that the video from the orange home store didn't even address taking out the old toilet. They started with installing a new toilet in a new house. WTF??? I needed to know how to take the old one out without getting water all over the place as I removed it. Thanks, Lowes, for doing it right when HD never does.
Very helpful tutorial. I recommend getting toilet shims, the hard plastic ones. My new toilet had about half an inch of “bounce room” that you only noticed when sitting on it. It didn’t leak, but that bounce may have eventually cracked the base. The shims part number I used was 247885. Thanks Lowe’s!
I'd talk to a plumber. Often what happens is someone cheapskate out on doing the tile under it correctly. It winds up w a space it's not supposed to have which will eventually leak or crack. They make spacers for that which go by the wax ring. But I'd ask to make sure you don't miss anything.
So basically it would rock side to side? Looking at replacing mine and ours has always had a little rock to it. I'm thinking when someone put the tile down previously they didn't get things leveled out between the flange and toilet well enough.
@@lowes You have some amazing prices on toilets right now! I am going in tomorrow to pick up 2 of them and install them myself! If its as easy as the video seems... You will have saved me over $300!! ( the price of TWO of your toliets, since you have huge discounts right now! )
I might add to press it down in all 4 directions: I followed each step, then had a leak at the base, and when I undid everything the wax ring wasn't smooshed at the back...even though my flange is level with the tile. I'm going to re-instill with a maxwax ring.
When I saw this video, I thought to myself, 'There's no way it can be that easy.' But, I followed the points outlined here, and installed the wax ring using the technique in the video, and now I'm asking myself, was that as easy as it seemed?'.. I guess it's easy when you know what you're doing, lol! Thanks!
You should have mentioned that a replacement should always change the supply line too if it's been over 7 years or so. Since you also sell supply lines, seems bad business to leave that part out. I do like the tip about no caulk to see leaks
Great question, Zack! To prevent over-tightening the bolts, give the tank a gentle nudge-if it's wobbling, tighten those bolts. If it's steady, you're good to go and there is no need for further adjustments. We hope this helps. 👍
That measurement tells you if your toilet is draining to a 12" rough-in vs a 10" rough-in, they sell toilets in both styles, this is separate from choosing round vs elongated.
Of all the DIY toliet installs I've watched, you were the only one who covered the problem of a flange not above the floor surface. Thanks.

I watched this and I literally changed my toilet after nd I’m pregnant I literally feel like I can do anything now💁🏾♀️😌
Wow amazing job 💕
You gave me hope !! ❤ hoping I can accomplish this!

This vid was a life saver. I followed every step and switched out my own toilet with no issues.
Man this video is a lifesaver. Local plumbing company was going to charge me $700. After watching this video I did it in 30 minutes

Great to hear. Thank you!
Dang, a response from Lowe’s themselves 😮

im saving a load doing my own plumbing
Which makes sense UNTIL you run into old house problems. These might be sets or a brand new house where everything is new and easy.
I’ve watched a number of different videos on this subject by diyers, plumbers, other businesses. This is by far the best one. Thanks!

I will say this. This was my first time doing this I took pictures of everything (ocd, nervous), and I surprised myself. job well done
You can use a toilet plunger to push the water out of the bowl as an option
I was thinking the same thing. I had no idea there was a "water solidifier".
Great video. Helped me do it right first try and first time ever replacing a toilet. Took me about a hour and half

I am incredibly intimidated by this task, but you made it look so easy. Guess I'm off to go buy two new toilets now.
Thanks for all the information, it will be needed shortly I know.

Very cool design of the toilet tank, with no extra protrusions through the tank, to reduce where water can leak out of.

Do i have to worry about sewer gases if I have the toilet installed but i can't hook-up the water line because it is too short?

Don’t use the rubber replacement gasket. Stick with the wax ring to get a good seal.
This would have been a great piece of info IN THE FCKING VIDEO. Just finished and have a gd leak because of it

How do you know if you're over-tightening the tank bolts?

wow thank you
What is the significant of the measurements of back wall to bolt and side wall to bowl?
I believe it's to make sure you get a toilet that fits the space. If you get one of the larger ones it may not fit your space.
That measurement tells you if your toilet is draining to a 12" rough-in vs a 10" rough-in, they sell toilets in both styles, this is separate from choosing round vs elongated.
