    Your portrayal of life on an Alaska island, with its unique chores and challenges, illuminates your resilience and connection to the land. Your storytelling captures the beauty and toughness of island life authentically. And I am Floating Village Life

    Thank you for showing the non-glamorous side of homesteading. Chores must be done and equipment must be taken care of. Plus, another great video! Enjoy your fishing trip.

    When we were up by Kake we did this too. Found a cheap helper, 1/2" or 9/16" bolt or pin whatever size your oar lock is, about 6" long with a heavy plate welded to it. A slot from the top to a hole the size of the line in the middle. Drop it through the slot and just slowly work the line into the boat while it scrapes clean. Looks like you’d need two separate sizes made up. The angle of the bolt in the oar lock kept most of the junk over the side.We would also heat up our shackle pins or any bolts below surface then melt and goober cheap candle wax onto them, work it back and forth then put it back together and it wouldn’t ever seize up or bind on us, just safety wire your pins though so they don’t back out and you wind up in a bad way. I miss that world, but I’ll be out of Oregon and back up SE in a few years.

    • @AnAlaskaHomestead
      @AnAlaskaHomestead  3 місяці тому

      I should just buy some safety wire for all the shackles. That’s not a bad idea.

    Made me think if you had about a 15" or longer piece of thick wall PVC pipe with yoke type connections for a rope to pull on each end. The diameter of the pipe a little larger than each size moring rope you have to clean that mess of kelp and barnacles from. Then you could pull the pipe from one end or the other of the boat lines. Then you can have one that drops down to the anchor that you pull up towards the bouy every so often. It will knock all that crud off and no mess afterwards. Maybe take some tinkering but it may work in your favor. Great to see you and i wanted to smack that fly on your knee so bad! Dang things.

      You can. We typically gather a lot of kelp after a big storm washes it up on shore. They also grow this in kelp farms for people to eat.
