You may think it's a cute little robot playing football, but once the robot is larger than human size and is coming after you with weapons you will wish that when you knock it down that it stays down. As someone in that air quality right now, the last day of school was quite the show. People leaving early, teachers leaving early, and all the asthmatic kids piling into the nurses office for masks, and worst of all our school doesn't have any form of air circulation, so the smoke collected in the halls and the halls were almost as bad as being outside.

I know that this is just a silly video, but I should caution that anthropomorphizing computers can be dangerous. It could lead to being too cautious of a useful machine, or too trusting of a dangerous one.
(In this case, the robot isn't designed to even mimic having feelings. It truly, deeply, does not care how many times it's knocked over.)

Children do it with their teddy bears and their toys. Some people feel like their car is an additional family member. Sailors have always called their boats with "she" pronouns. Humans crave connection, even with things who cannot reciprocate their affection, it's just the way it is.

The difference with cars and boats is that there isn't much danger in trusting them, because they can't think (yet). The fact that this is natural human behavior *is* what makes it so scary.
For example, Amazon would want nothing more than for you to be emotionally attached to its voice-controlled shopping device. That's happening *now*, the future is bleaker.

It's not mind reading thats the danger. If that technology could be used programme the mind then we've lost, we've all lost.
They've already been doing it for years. They can do it from satellite. But they can also implant the same thing onto your brain from frequencies and you believe that you're seeing/hearing/feeling it.
Because once the AI has the blueprint or 'code' of the brain frequencies of all different things, they can then generate an image from scratch and then send it to your brain.
You dont ever question something that you think are your own thoughts or what you think you're seeing with your eyes. But they're not yours at all.
From what I can tell, it can only read what you’re looking at in that moment. It might be able to read what you’re thinking of if you’re actively visualizing something, but you could just not visualize stuff while the device is on your head.

As a native Pennsylvanian never would I have thought we'll experience air quality measuring into the 400s! The smog and haze was something straight out of a movie! My best wishes to people who had their immune system compromised from this tragedy
Living in northern Nevada, every year thick smoke from California wildfires (Rim fire in Yosemite, Dixie, Caldor, Paradise for example) comes over the Sierra and cloaks us in Carson City with smoke nearly as bad as New York City's. Going outside is dangerous, especially for old folks like me with compromised health. Definitely stay inside!!!

As creepy as the mind-reading AI is, I would absolutely love to be able to watch one of my dreams on playback, to see the quick and abrupt transitions between one time and place to another and the weird things that happen in the dream world. I feel like it would help scientists understand the subconscious better as well.
Imagine a wet dream or some insanely fucked up dream that you had and forgot and now both AI and the scientist can see them.

I remember the Canadian wildfire still but it wasn't the only one that happened to reach my state and where I live, and it happened the same year too. There was one in December, 1-2 weeks before Christmas. It was on my grandparents mountain, and they live in a cabin. It was near their house and we were worried that it could reach here. Luckily they only live about almost an hour from where I live though, and they got it put out within time before Christmas and before it got to their house. We're so relieved but if you go up the mountain where they live, you can see the damage it had done.

That AI mind reading thing actually scared me. Never before has someone read human minds to ANY extent let alone THIS accurately, and the technology will only progress. I don't even feel safe in my mind anymore.

It's not reading thoughts. It's reading what her eyes are seeing. It's quite a difference. Reading human minds has been done to some extend before, even way back.

I live in southern Canada and the air here isn't the best but no where near as bad as it is in New York. I hope everyone there and anyone else in states or provinces where the air is bad is staying safe. Especially the people closer to where the wildfires are. Best wishes to you all!
In Quebec the air was almost unbreathable on Tuesday. Everything smelled like burning wood and if you were out too long you would start coughing. Media warned not to go outside if you didn’t need to. I thought I could take my dog out for a quick walk but it wasn’t a good idea. I was so light headed when I got home! It’s better now though.

My heart goes out to the people suffering from the bushfires. I live in Melbourne, Australia, & we get really bad ones every few years. It's always scary & they're starting earlier & earlier each time...
Here in north America we call them wildfires but down south its bushfires, I wonder is there a difference or just different words for the same thing?
@@selardohr7697 Bushfires in Australia commonly are fueled by eucalyptus trees, while wildfires in the United States usually are fueled by pine trees. Eucalyptus trees burn significantly hotter than pine trees.
Australian native bush benefits from fire. Some species even need fire to get their seeds to germinate.
Don't understand that comment about them "happening earlier" though. We had a really bad one a few years ago but there hasn't been many at all in the past few years. We are overdue.

Now summer hasn't officially started yet and the forests already went up in flames.

As someone who lives in the tri-state area (aka northeast) I can confirm, the "death smoke" is really bad. Yesterday was the worst we've ever had it. Was on a field trip. Looked outside the bus window and it looked like I was wearing sunglasses. Stepped outside and held my breath. Again, looked like I was wearing sunglasses. It only got slightly worse the second I was finally in my classroom before the air cleaned up and looked less apocalyptic. Moral of the story, if you're in the tri-state area: DON'T GO OUTSIDE FOR TOO LONG AND DON'T PURPOSELY BREATH IN THE DEATH SMOKE UNTIL THE WEEKEND. With the rain coming tomorrow it's said that it will probably be BEAUTIFUL weather this weekend.
