Joe Lewis regarded Bruce Lee as the leading candidate for being the greatest martial artist that ever lived and stated he was the fastest man to have stood in front of him and described Lee as being incredibly powerful and hit as hard as a heavyweight. Lewis would often joke with his students and say he knew what real Jeet Kune Do was and how hard Bruce Lee hit as Lee nailed him. Lewis was the only world champion who would refer to himself as a student of Bruce Lee.

However, the problem with Joe Lewis, and many others, is when Bruce was around they said nothing negative: when Bruce wasn’t around they started saying all sorts of stuff, but when by people like Joe Lewis and his ego calmed down as he got older. They started to give Bruce the respect.

Joe Lewis is such a legend and I really love the fact that he obviously really cherishes the time and friendship he had with Bruce Lee, there is no envy there at all , just pure admiration

You can see from Joe's face he truly did love Bruce, even though their egos were big and caused them to clash.

Joe Lewis, "is big and strong"?? I met him, he's 5'9" and about 170 lbs. That is, average size, but his bones seemed to be thicker. And he maintained his body really well. "Force 5", was like the Magnificient Seven, the Seven Samurai , and Missing in Action.....or Missing in Action was a copy of Force 5. It had lots of current ad jingles, "thank god for black and decker", "always reach for a hamilton beach".

That is NOT true . I met him like 5 years before he passed away and he was atleats 5 11 even at that stage of his life … and yes I could tell her was a force of nature … his body was almost unreal and his hands were literally out of this world . He was out of shape but moved VERY well when he demonstrated .
He was NOT 5 9 by any stretch of the imagination

Joe Lewis was much more accomplished than chuck Norris. Chuck stayed in point stop karate where as Joe was not only a world karate champion but also a world kickboxing champion

I laughed my head off at this clip of Joe lewis fighting his students out in the woods. I assume the clown in the suit was Braithwaite from enter the dragon. I am a fan of Joe but terrible choreography and he is so slow compared to bruce. I am not surprised his film carea never took off. Ian Robinson uk

Oh, they tried so hard to give Joe the spotlight after Bruce's death. I'm sorry to say his movies all sucked. Everything from the production, to the writing, to the direction, was garbage. Chuck was lucky to work with Bruce in Way of The Dragon as his career took off nicely after that.

The Difference is between him and Chuck Norris, Norris was not as egomaniac like Lewis.
Norris knows his limitations, and make the best of his „ Golden fight scene“ with Bruce Lee !
Chuck was intelligent to know, that you must are humble with others, pays back with success.
Think the character makes the difference to success.
No one of them wasn’t able to surpass Bruce Lee in abilities and fighting scenes and charisma.
But to make the best with their abilities after the vacuum, death of Lee.
So or so, quality last at most-Bruce Lee !
