    People forget that Joe Lewis was also a Judoka in addition to being an Okinawan karate master and kickboxer.
    So he was expert in grappling submissions from Judo.

    I like how Mr Lewis teaches techniques that won’t seriously hurt someone first. He is a great instructor that can really take someone out but refuses to demonstrate those techniques Rip Mr Lewis

    Thanks for this!! I had just gotten my black belt back in the day when Joe was hired by the Tracys brothers for their Tracy's Kenpo business. It's interesting to see his knowledge and application of Japanese Jujitsu from during a time when BJJ was in its early days.They have refined these techniques to this day with the growth of MMA.

      He is to me! I spoke to him over the phone in 1991.a dream come true! We talked about his exhibition fight with Bill Wallace,& the Tyson_Holyfield fight.ironically,we said nothing of Bruce Lee.Joe was never the film star like Chuck was for a number of reasons: I did find out Bruce wanted him for his opponent in Return of the Dragon,but they had a falling out.but he is still & always will be a fighting legend.

      Chuck Norris competed in light,generally no head contact point Karate, Norris did not compete in full contact Kickboxing. Joe Lewis early on competed in point Karate but hated it as it silly and was not real fighting, u could become a world champion without ever being punched in the head in a real sense( like say Boxing or Muitaikickboxing) Joe began holding full contact kickboxing type events and became basically undefeated champion at heavyweight, he was the real deal in a fairly new more realistic combat fighting sport

    Chuck Norris only competed in the cheesy point Karate tournament s, Joe Lewis hated the point style events as u could become a World champion?? Without ever being punched in the head,( in a real sense like Boxing or Muitaikickboxing) so he became a pioneer by organizing full contact Karate ( basically Kickboxing) and excelled becoming a heavyweight champion who was I believe, undefeated

      yep exactly that, chuck norris is a paper champion nothing more, i heard through great sources in the usa that chuck actually won the title once and the event didnt happen for another 6 yrs but chuck claims he was 7 times world champion. when he didnt even compete and when the championship started again he then retired. so he won it once and then retired but claims to everybody he was 7 times world champion. what a fake.

      To be fair to Norris in one of his books he talks about fighting Lewis and how aggressive a point fighter he was...and so on, how great Lewis was, Norris was envious of him but concentrated on his own strengths.

    This video and others like it...should be kept off UA-cam IMHO. There's going to be dumb teen boys wanting to try the moves. Maybe some dumb 20-something guys. Had a few too many. Do it wrong. Strike the throat....maybe an eye...Little boy might try it on his little sister...not understanding what it is to injure someone. Family.
    Also, while I'm no expert...clearly many of these moves won't work against a larger attacker...with all due respects to the late Joe Lewis (odd he'd be teaching these techniques...being an ex-world kickboxing champ...coming from a full-contact background and back to teaching traditional Karate movies)...income I guess. :) That is what most MA is...income...most of it won't work in a real situation...too many variables preventing it (e.g. you against many...NO WIN...rarely will we be in one-on-one encounters)...

    • @Docinaplane
      @Docinaplane 3 роки тому +3

      Interesting you mention income. There was one thing during those early days that all the greats like Lee, Lewis, Norris, etc had in common. They were all poor and looking for a way to make a living and still be in the martial arts.

      I think unfortunaly now kids play with guns too much& that causes a lot of fatalities.dont think they wanna practice these moves,I think females& the elderly need this more.kids need guidance by their parents( if their responsible).by the way,Lewis studied medicine that's how he knows the medical terminology.
